    Angel Melendez and Michael Alig

What do you y'all think about the club kid murder? Party Monster was a great movie (the acting anyway). America Justice is on and they're talking about it as I write!

Hello all, I'm Becca and I'm new to the boards...Have read my way through FAD more than once, however...It's exciting that this board is up now!

As for "Party Monster", if you liked the movie, you will definitely dig the book. The copy I have is a re-release that went along with the movie, so it has Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green on the cover.

Apparently, Alig was supposed to write a book of his own, I remember reading he planned to title it "Aligula"...Classy, no?

I'm not really familiar with this story...I didn't even know Party Monster was based on anything. I'm a newbie to the death hag scene..

The book was great, too. I don't know where you're located, but American Justice is on A and E right now! Has he been released yet?

Thank you kindly for the welcome.

I really would be interested to read Alig's side of the story. James St. James tells his version in "Party Monster", but I've read that Alig wasn't particularly pleased with what he had to say.

    Thumbs up

Yay! This is so cool...I have a seriously overdue copy of "Disco Bloodbath: The Fabulous But True Tale of Murder in Clubland" by James St. James sitting on top of a stack of library books waiting to be returned. I am a very, very picky reader/tv viewer/movie watcher (it'd better be damn good if I'm gonna spend my time on it, in other words...kinda like this forum...the only one I will EVER join. EVER.), and I gotta tell ya'...This Book Rocks From Start To Finish. I've had serious thoughts about buying my own copy, I love it so much. I don't think it is published under that title anymore, though; I think it's now called "Party Monster", just like the movie. Anyway, James St. James is not only an interesting person, he's truly an extraordinarily fluid, intelligent, talented, HILARIOUS writer. I can hardly wait for him to write another book...and, like I said, for a picky, persnickery snob such as myself to say so...well...you best just snap up a copy for yourself and get busy reading!

Glad to have something to add!

PS: For those who dig the club music of the era, the soundtrack to the movie is also a must-have. Very cool, although, po-moemy, the movie (although interesting in terms of subject matter) kind of...sort of...well, IT SUCKED. But like I said, I'm picky. Read the book. You'll laugh your ass off.

Disco Bloodbath is a great book. It's a fast read and is hysterical in some sections, especially when he talks about the drag queen pulling lit christmas lights out of her ass in a stage performance.

The movie with Seth Green stunk. The documentary was great. The same filmmakers did both films. They need to stick to documentary work. They recently did a great film for HBO called "Inside Deep Throat". If you get to see, do. It was really good.

I just saw Inside Deep Throat. Crazy. Has anyone seen the documentary about Ron Jeremy? Oh, and what about Savannah and Joey Stefano? I don't think anyone really wants to grow up and be a porn star, but their lives were pretty tragic.

Michael Alig - The Angel Melendez Murder

This story fascinates me! A young gay man from South Bend, IN moves to NYC and becomes the biggest party promoter EVER, only to get mixed up in way too many drugs, threw it all away and murdered a drug dealer. He almost got away with it -- it was his own big mouth that did him in.

And not only did he murder him, but he poured drano down his throat after, supposedly to keep the smell at bay, and kept him on ice in his bathtub for like 2 weeks, all the while having parties at his house and nobody knew it.

Then, when the decomposition took over, he cut his legs off, threw him in a TV box and tossed him into the river.

If that wasn't bad enough, either before or after he did this, he threw himself a birthday party at the Limelight called "Blood Feast" where the theme was blood and death and guts and gore!

Macauley Culkin portrayed him in the movie, "Party Monster" and there's an awesome book by James St. James called "Disco Bloodbath" about it. I have the "shockumentary" Party Monster, which is the actual documentary on it, with the real people in it.

Ya. This was a crazy one. Isnt Alig up for parole pretty soon? I dont think Alig wouldve got caught if he'd kept his mouth shut. He had told his mom, tho, she thought he was just high, and all the club kids knew the rumor and how Angel was killed and disposed off. I think Michael felt bad. No excuse tho.

I think he felt bad that his actions ruined his own life, not that he killed Angel. He was up for parole (along with his accomplice, Freeze) last November, but was denied. I think it won't be until 2008 that he's up for it again.

A&E did a documentry on this case. Was pretty interesting and they interviewed Alig throughout a good portion of the show. It's a bit odd to watch him retell the entire event.

There's a few clips of Alig, Saint James, and the rest at youtube. Eerie to see them in their faux accents and make-up, just to know in weeks to come Alig would be blown away on drugs and kill the dealer. Pour drano in his mouth. Try to keep him on ice. Cut him up. Fit him in a box. Send him down the Hudson.

    Shudder.

Oddly enough, Alig looks too normal to kill someone. Drugs are bad, my brothah.

Alig has some serious personality issues.
    He's a narzist and sociopath.
I've always been fascinated with this case.

What's creepier is seeing him on the shocumentary casually admitting to it, and making a joke about it.

Excuse me if I have missed something, I saw a doco on the murder of Angel and Michael was interviewed from jail! He was so nice and the film footage of his work and shows was great! Somehow it all wasnt as creative and nice as it could have been! They did a bad bad thing! Is Michael up for parole?

From what I've read on the case (never met the guy ) Michael Alig seems to bask in the spotlight, even if it is a documentery on the MURDER he committed. Besides that, and that he hasn't had any serious drugs (that I know of) while in prison, I must admit he cleans up pretty good, doesn't he? I don't know when he's up for parole, but just by the sensationalism of the murder, the graphic nature in which he killed Angel and disposed of him, I doubt Alig will go free anytime soon. My thoughts an $0.02

Also, I've tried finding Angel Mendez (sp?) gravesite at Find a Grave, and found nothing. Anyone, anyone?

Found nothing myself, but then figured out that his name was Angel Melendez.

Searched again, and Find a Grave still came up with nothing...The only thing a Google Image search brought up was a couple pictures of Alig, and photos of the people who have played him in the movie and documentary.

Melendez, thank you. I liked his wings, but I think Alig really did make fun of them. I thought they looked outrageous, in a good way.

I think Alig had some major issues with Angel, for sure.

    Party Boy in a Cage

Alig is desperate to be lovedâ??by the skinhead, by his therapist (â??Michael,â? the shrink has to tell him, â??you are not allowed to touch the therapistâ?), by me, by everyone. And this is why he is reluctant to tell me about what is perhaps the worst punishment for his crime: a pinched nerve in his back that has gone untreated by prison doctors for the past seven years and caused numbness from his groin area all the way down to his right foot. One of the results of the loss of feeling is that he has lost muscle reflexes in his bladder and sphincter. He is incontinent. His mother is constantly sending him new underwear, and he regularly has to wash his soiled sheets in the toilet in his cell. The condition is called Cauda Equina Syndrome, and, if left untreated, it can result in a permanent loss of sensation. But the thing heâ??s really worried about is, who will love an incontinent man in his forties? â??When I ever get out of here,â? he says, â??I will never find a boyfriend.â?

This is a 5 page story, and yes, he is up for parole in Sept 2008

Yep, I loved the movie too. I remember seeing all the Club Kids on Geraldo. My friends and I were kind of "Club Kids Lite" in Minneapolis in the early 90s (even tho I was underage!) and I have to agree, I'd have loved to have been able to go to one of those parties.

I find the whole thing fascinating. I saw the American Justice piece, and it was great, as was the movie. His utter sociopathic personality just fascinates/terrifies me. His complete inability to care about anyone but himself. It's a riveting story.

From The WOW Report, there are transcripts of the phone calls that James St. James had with Alig. The link will take you to all of them. This is the site from the people that did Party Monster, both the film and the documentary, Fenton Baily and Randy Barbato. they do tons of great stuff, including the upcoming documentary on Heidi Fleiss, airing on HBO on HBO this month:

I watched a documentary about it and Alig pretty much disgusted me. The whole scene was just unbelievable.

You should get the Party Monster "Shockumentary" -- It shows Alig admitting it on an interview, and then saying he was just kidding. I LOVE James St. James, and his book is awesome. They all look so effed up and drugged out in the Shockumentary.

In my past life... I once partied at the Limelight and it's all true (during the dark phase) hung outside most of the night though . I was never a club kid but had fun none the less. I love the "Shockmentary" - great movie to clean the house too.

I remember watching the club Kids on Geraldo... have been searching for the footage, but have come up empty handed. I have seen the Joan River clips...

    I adore James St. James.
