I know nothing about Glenn Hughes (aside from seeing him with the V.People) but I did hear that he was a very very nice man.
I had heard that there are pictures of Glenn in the casket in full leather glory....has anybody seen them?
c'mon, Danny...REALLY? the Village People?
Dude, Leatherman is a Icon!
Well you know how old I am...they played them all the time when I was growing up in the 70's! I mean they were a bit of a joke in my eyes at the time...but they were unique in there own way as I see it today!
Just like when my friends and I would make fun of Frank Sinatra...now I have some CD's of his.
Yes my music range goes from Black Sabbath all the way down to Frank Sinatra!!!!
I dig some 70's tunes too. hell, I almost did a back flip when I heard Chic was being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame this year. but Village People..I gotta draw the line somewhere.
I didn't even know he'd died!
http://www.officialvillagepeople.com/ if this is any use to any of you ok they are not the original crew but have taken over.
Heres the link to glenns death http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/villagepeople amongst other village people stuff enjoy!!!
I loved their music when I was younger....it was fun. We loved to sing along with "YMCA", "In The Navy" ,etc.
To clairfy my postion on the village people is:
I never liked them thought were a joke!! I guess in some ways they did have an impact in the disco era though.
The main reason I gave leatherman..."sounds like a porno movie" his own thread is because he was one of the original members and I don't think alot of people knew he was dead.
I don't own any of their CD's!!!!
Chic in rock n roll hall of fame is puzzling. They were never that big and never sold that many records. Le Freak and Good Times are all I can remember.
Totally random but have you seen this Village People video?

Remember when they were on a Bob Hope special and sang "In the Navy" to him!? They also sang "Are You Ready For the 80's" on the 79/80 Dick Clark New Years Special!

I agree, it's odd that they are being inducted with the lack of record sales. but truth be told, they were AMAZING musicians in their own right. Nile Rogers is a BAD ASS producer and songwriter. as well as a very under rated guitar player. the late great Bernard Edwards was one of the best funk bass players I have ever heard. he didn't have that Bootsy Collins FREAK OUT style/persona. but he didn't need flashy outfits. he was a straight up bass MASTER! and then you had Tony Thompson, another great taken before his time. a mean drummer who played with not only Chic but David Bowie on the Let's Dance album/tour and Power Station with Robert Palmer and those 2 guy's from Duran Duran. AND, if anyone is old enough to remember Live Aid...when Zeppelin reunited for that gig, it was Tony who played drums for them...and Phil Collins played a song or 2 later in the set. so, i'm not mad at the fact that Chic is being inducted. I feel it's deserved. just my 2 cents.
Mag...I thought you liked us! That was mean!!! LOL
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]peek-a-boo!!
I agree Jefe, it is strange.
I am getting the feeling you're going to see more and more "questionable" inductees as time goes by though.
One other thing, I'm not a hip-hop/rap guy (aside from Run DMC and The Beastie Boys) but since when is rap and hip hop... rock? I mean, no offense but under that thinking, shouldn't country musicians be allowed in too? Heck, country is tied closer to rock than rap is. (just a wonderment).
Well I guess I meant that it can lead to a slippery slope, in a way.
I tend to prefer rock acts in the R&R HOF (as ridiculous as a Hall of Fame is anyway).
Music is so subjective. You like what you like. If someone likes something else and dislikes what you enjoy, it doesn't mean they are right (or wrong).
I hate the whole hall of fame thing too. i really dont like rock critics too much. Most of them have never been in a band, they are basicaly hangers on in my eyes. They play favorites. Thats why I dont read Rolling Stone anymore. They put Zac Effron on the cover. Rock is dead in my eyes. I cant listen to the rock on the radio. Nickelback? Horrible. The newest band I listen too is The Mars Volta and they are a few years old
Well stated Jefe. I'm with you. The R&R HOF is silly (ok, a person can go there to see a cool collection, I give them that but that's about it) but the actual induction is just plain dopey.
I never go by reviewers either. Often times they come across as smug/arrogant know-it-alls with a completely pompous attitude.
I say, do your own searching, do your own investigating as to what may interest you. You can't go wrong that way.
One other thing...."popular" music released in the last ten years has been an ongoing joke. I can easily agree that rock is dead (as well as Real country music) but if you dig deep enough, there are some real gems out there to be found but sadly, they are never given the time of day.
The first album I received as a gift was The Village People when I got my first "real" stereo for my birthday long ago....1977.......good Lord I just realized that was 30 years ago Guess I've been in a time capsule or something! I still have one of Judas Priest's album covers on top of my piano........
Hey Death Hag Chris,
Where is the autographed photo of this dude you have that you promised to scan for us!!!!!
HA,HA,HA!!
YOu can really give me shit we had a group or us at work dressed as the village people for Halloween, I was the construction worker!!!
I loved the Village People! During the 80s when they were no longer popular they toured here ALL THE TIME - they played at a place called The Swagman (anyone old enough from Melbourne will remember that place, and their TV jingle - its the smorgasboard we're famous for!)
In around 93 I saw them at the WORST place in ST ALBANS (bogan central) but it was great and I sat on the stage and watched them!!! The leatherman was there as well as the Indian, I think the rest were newer models (the construction worker was hot!!!)
This was Glenn in and out of makeup!
Heis face looked like Wooly Willy...he sure had a thick mustache and beard!
Danny, you do not have to apologize for posting on Glen. Shoot I post and discuss people I liked and did not care for. Here is his grave site with pictures of his headstone.
