Could you handle fame without being a prick?

Do you think fame and power would change you to Der Bingle or Sinatra? Weā??ve heard about these ā??pricksā? but I have never been famous. Iā??ve played in Rock bands and Country for well over 40 years and played places like Grand Central in Phoenix, and all over Tahoe. Iā??ve had groupies show up at my house many times at all times of the night and day. At 1st it was cool but after a while it was a pain in the ass. I had two girls tell my wife to take hike for a few hours. I tossed their ass out the door. I was a prick. Sooner or later you get the ones that want to break into the business. I quit one band that went on to do very well and got wealthy, f**ed up and is now broke. Ok, I am related to a very famous porn star from the 70ā??s- 80ā??s and she wants to be left alone. If she had a buck for every guy that asked her if she could get them a job including family members; which I think is pretty low, she be very rich. I have to be honest; I think I would fall into an asshat or prick as being patient is not my best of people skills. Before you answer look at what Britney is going through, self made or not. I would bet that Scott's life has changed a bunch with his new found fame.

Interesting, and very complicated set of questions!

I think you're either fundamentally a dick before you got famous, or not. I think fame can give you more opportunity and more excuses to be said dick because you're now famous- and possibly rich, if you haven't blown all of your money and are now just famous. I think the public has a certain amount of right to approach you in public if said public spent millions of dollars on you to support your lifestyle, and you should be gracious about it, as long as they aren't running you or your family over trying to get pictures of you.

That being said, the type of fans you're describing give other fans a bad name. If you're climbing over the fence, loitering on someone's private property or making a general problem for everyone by annoying not only a person but their significant other and/or children, you've crossed the line into criminal territory, and should expect to be arrested for loitering or trespassing. Given how many scary, freaky fans have either killed or attempted to kill the object of their fantasy, I think it's a very serious threat to approach a "star" in any place other than a public one.

So, going into an entertainment career, where there's a chance- even slim- that you'll be famous- I think you need to be prepared to deal with the public in often annoying ways. They, of course, paid for that expensive suit you're wearing via the studio, record company, etc. But I also think you have every right to toss the public out on their ass if they show up on your lawn!

That's my long-winded answer to your question, anyway.

Cheers,
Amy

I always tell people that if I ever became rich and/or famous, I'd be a huge prick. But I'm not (rich or famous, that is)........no comment on the other. HA HA

I think at times I would be, simply because people coming at me all the time would drive me crazy and with some people power would go to their heads I hope I wouldn't be that way though.

I think that's the problem: being chased by people sounds like fun, and is great for the ego, but it gets old really fast.

Mickey Dolenz is from Los Gatos. And apparently one of the local stories is how, at the height of his fame, he used to show up at Moonlight Lanes (local bowling alley) around 1am just to have some fun without people driving him nuts.

Same deal with shopping: if you're a big name star, the smartest thing you can do is call the store, tell them who you are, and ask if they'd be kind enough to stay open an extra half-hour or so. That way, you can do your shopping in peace.

I find it hard to have sympathy for the famous in the sense that fame was, after all, what they wanted. At the same time, it must be a total PITA to go through all the logistical hurdles necessary so that you're not hassled by other people every waking hour just because they feel you "owe it" to them.

No! lol just teasing. I was thinking about this just a few minutes ago and this is what I've come up with so listen. I will not sign so many autographs that i get carple tunnel but I will sign some. I'll allow some pictures and I give good hugs. No kisses though, sorry. I won't charge you if you don't charge me. This means no sneaking your lunch bill for autographing. I will not him you a lock of my hair. I may give you what shoes I'm wearing or buy you a pair just like it. (or just tell you no in a very nice way.) I'm always open for a smile and I like kids and dogs. Come watch me and I promise you'll enjoy the show.

i have to admit, when i played ball, i became the toast of several towns. it did go to my head, and i did get "cocky" quite a few times. but i never denied a child nothing, never denied a child a autograph, hat, bat, or anything like that. looking back, i was young, single, and didnt have any responsibilities but to myself and team. yea, i woulda done things diffent, but now that i am nothing but a bum, i see the errors of my ways. like they say, KARMA IS A BITCH!!

There's that word again...."cocky"... Ball for Who?What?When?

It depends. I think I would be pretty laid back, but as a celebrity you have to protect yourself. You can't just lay it all out on the line (isn't there a song called that??) because you could get hurt.

I guess you can't really say unless you've been there...

yea, everyone says i am way cocky! i have confidence, maybe over-confident at times!! i played from 97-2004. i was drafted out of high school by the detroit tigers, drafted low as hell, but being young and stupid, i turned down a whole bunch of scholarships to try my hands at the pros. i got ino trouble in class A, got kicked out and ended up drifting to the midwestern league playing in iowa for crappy teams, then playing in minnessotta for industrial leagues. i got a contract to play in the texas league so i ended up there playing and getting a shot with the astros. i bombed because i acted like i was better than i was, didnt try hard enough. i finally hung up my spikes for 2 yrs then was offered a shot in tampa for the devil rays. i got injured during tryouts and figured it was time to quit for good. never did get to play in the show, but whatever. now every year i get offers to coach, be a hitting instructor, or something else, but the greatest offers are always the ones farthest from home.

yeah me too I'm pretty easy going but i think some people just push you too far and I'd could be a prick to the right person ..Example look at that goose that sprayed Tom Cruise with a waterpistol? i think it was how would you react to that he,(Tom), kept it pretty cool i thought.

I think it's interesting how many losers.... Are already pricks.

Celebrities aren't paid to be nice... They're paid to provide a service. As for me, I like meeting people and don't think I would have a problem with it... Unless, people started trying to use me. But, I'm also the type of person who doesn't need other people around. If they're like that, then I don't need them.

I've been a prick, I've dated pricks, even married a prick. I know how to be a prick and how NOT to be one. I've learned how to turn this feature on and off at will. It depends on who I'm with at the moment. Or is this called being a bitch? I'm sorry, my bad, I don't have a dick, so I can't be a prick, just a bitch. That is all. LOL...

To a certain extent, I am kinda well known round my part of CA, not famous though. Some people think I'm a bitch/prick, and their opinion they are entitled to, and it doesn't matter to me because these people aren't an asset to my life. Sometime you have to be a prick - famous or not - just to get by. Now, if we are talking education and/or how the disabled should be treated when it comes to just life in general, then hell yes, I am a prick. Why? Because my 1st younger brother is disabled, hos 2 boys are severely disabled, both of my kids are disabled. I will not tolerate anyone mistreating the disabled. It doesn't matter what form it's in. I have seen it firsthand here when the local school board got a wild hair up their asses and actually were considering NOT allowing Sp Ed students to participate in graduation simply because most of the Sp Ed kids would not be able to pass the current state mandated exam to get a diploma. So, I took on the school board over this, and (unfortunately) because of it, I became known for being a prick/bitch. Oh well, too bad. If the school board didn't want that thrown back in their faces, they should have never started it to begin with.

So, I can be a prick without being famous.
