She really didn't seem "into" her self like most hollywood snotballs now days!
I remember this...I was in junior high when this happened. I used to watch "My Sister Sam" all the time and though Rebecca was a beautiful, talented actress. It is such a horrible tragedy that the PSYCHO who did this to her is even allowed to live.

Karmas a bitch though, Bardo, got stabbed in prison a couple months ago. He took a precious young life!
Later on, he saw her new film Class Struggle in Beverly Hills. In the movie, Rebecca had a bed scene with a male actor. This upset Bardo. He couldn't envision his innocent young girl being an adult woman. To him, she had become "one more of the bitches of Hollywood." Bardo decided Rebecca had to be punished for her immorality. He drew a diagram of her body and marked spots where he planned to shoot her. He asked his older brother, Edgar, to buy him a gun.
Yeah this was a senseless tragedy..I'm glad someone stabbed Bardo..they changed the stalking laws after her death didn't they?

It's amazing how nice she was to him, writing back to him (fan letters). She just didn't realize the kind of freaks that are out there, poor girl. She probably felt flattered, as an up and coming new celeb, that she had fans. I bet even today there are some young actors who respond directly to fan mail and they shouldn't. Hopefully her tragedy taught others to be more careful...

Interesting. I recently got a letter from an old boyfriend who said he found me though DMV. So you cannot really do that anymore? Was he pulling my leg? I never bothered to reply to him for various reasons.

"When Robert John Bardo tried to purchase a Ruger GP100 .357 magnum at Jensen's Firearms in Tucson Az. in the summer of 1989, he filled out the paperwork answering yes to having been committed to a mental facility, a disqualification. (He was also underage but he had a fake Driver's License that would have worked.)
The salesman, a member of the Air Force named Bob, told him he could not purchase the revolver. Bardo got irate and said he wanted to fill out another copy, the salesman sought out help and Jerome Larochelle who also worked at Jensen's, told the guy absolutely no way and he told Bardo he could not own a firearm and to "Get the fuck out!" (Because he did not like the vibes he got from him!) The two then escorted Bardo from the store.
Larochelle, his friend Bob and the Manager on duty at Jensen's hung Bardo's disqualified form on the bulletin board and wrote "DO NOT SELL TO THIS INDIVIDUAL!"
The next morning Bardo came in with his brother who purchased the same Ruger GP100 revolver and gave it to his brother when they were out side of the shop, (a violation of federal law. His brother would have known that because it asks you that question on the form and warns that such 'straw man' purchases are a violation of Federal Law!)
Bardo then used the revolver to fatally shoot Rebecca Schaeffer on July 18th.
When Marsha Clark was prosecuting Bardo, the Jensen's people contacted her office and vehemently argued the point that these two went out of their way to break the law and scam a firearm for Bardo, and his demeanor, pointing to First Degree Premeditated Murder and accessory to First Degree Murder! Their voices fell on deaf ears and John Bardo got life, his brother was not charged."
Before I moved to L.A., I became obsessed with Rebecca and her senseless death (I think this is when I realized that I was death hag for the first time!).
Right after I moved here, I had to see the apartment where she had lived and died. My poor husband took me on what he labeled "the death march" and I actually stood on the steps where she was shot. OMG I will never forget that day. It was so beautiful and peaceful on her street (Sweetzer Ave.) - the sun was out and the birds were chirping. I stood in her doorway for about a minute and looked in and saw the steps that she must have came down before meeting her awful fate. It was a haunting experience.
I totally believe in ghosts and spirits, and felt really "off" and sad for the rest of that day. My husband thought I was crazy, but I really did feel sadness and almost like her spirit was with me for a few hours after that. I can share this on this forum because I know you will all understand!! After that, we went to the street where Sharon Tate had lived. I love living L.A. because I get to finally see all of teh places I have obsessed about, LOL!

Following Schaeffer's murder and Saldana's assault, California laws regarding the release of personal information through the DMV were drastically changed. The Driver's Privacy Protection Act was enacted in 1994, which prevents the DMV from releasing private addresses. The law's effect has subsequently been diminished by online address search services.

With the internet being the way it is and how so much information about people which was once private being so openly available now, frankly I am surprised we haven't seen a similar incident such was what happened to Rebecca Shaeffer. I myself know quite a few people who have been stalked by those who found out personal info on them online. It really is scary.
Hell, a former co-worker of mine was able to dig up credit reports on all of us just by using his PC at home. Before the internet, that would have been totally impossible to do.

They can sometimes look on switchboard.com or a site like that and find it. My phone number is unlisted because of my job in law enforcement and I was SHOCKED to see it there. You have to ask them to remove it. Great--like I need inmates showing up at my house.

She was just the cutest and so young! I remember when she died, it was quite a huge deal and freaked a lot of people out. I read that she didn't personally write him back but a fan service she employed did. I think she just signed photos or something.

Even though more laws have been created and the police deal with stalking differently, it is still incredibly scary how stalkers can ruin lives.
Now you wouldn't need a cheap private eye. $50. and a little time in front of a computer you can find anyone. There is very little you can't find out on your own now.
There is just about no concept of privacy anymore.

She had closed the door on him and then he knocked again. She opened it and he shot her. Another example of young women not being able to say no.

Confident that the address was correct, he rang the doorbell.[11] Schaeffer, who was preparing for an audition for a role in The Godfather III, answered the door.[12][13] Bardo showed Schaeffer the letter and autograph she had previously sent him and, after a brief conversation, Schaeffer asked Bardo not to come to her home again. The two shook hands and Bardo left. He then walked to a local diner and ate breakfast. An hour later, Bardo returned to Schaeffer's apartment for a second time.[11] Schaeffer answered the door again with "a cold look on her face," Bardo later said.[14] Bardo pulled out a gun from a brown paper bag and shot her once at point-blank range in the chest in the doorway of her apartment building.[15] Schaeffer screamed and collapsed in her doorway as Bardo fled. A neighbor phoned paramedics, who arrived to transport her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Schaeffer was pronounced dead 30 minutes after her arrival. The following day, Bardo was arrested in Tucson, after motorists reported a man darting through traffic on Interstate 10. He immediately confessed to the murder.[16]
Rebecca had a small roll in one of my favorite Woody Allen movies -- Radio Days. She plays the neighbor's daughter. She only had a line or two and was in the background in a few scenes.
And of course, there's the Moonlight Mile film connection -- written/directed by her boyfriend at the time she was murdered. Coincidentally, he also directed Land of the Lost, coming out this weekend.

Now that is interesting. Thanks! I am always so curious about the deaths of strangers but I am also curious about what their loved ones go on to do. Somehow I think that's more morbid than anything else.Maybe just more sad. Much more sad.

Poor girl...seeing her apartment building on Scott's tour was quite sobering. Just a quiet little place on a quiet little street--no outward clue as to the horrific events that happened there. Weird, unsettling experience.
