I haven't read goldman's book myself, based on reviews from other fans. Some people just like to trash him

I wouldn't believe anything coming out of the mouths any of the Stanley family.
It's common knowlege that Elvis didn't care for his step mother. People close to him said he felt sorry for the boys. They were very young when Vernon married their mother. According to them (Elvis Friends) he was always good to them. They developed fairly heavy drug use (most likely from early exposure to it)

In the years following Elvis' death any and everybody was writing books. Publishers didn't want sweet tributes about him. They wanted something sensational so the book would sell. It was way out of hand because they had to try and top the latest book to get a contract. Some of those closest to Elvis held out the longest, but eventually most of them bowed to the need for money. The funniest result from all the books was when Marty Lacker wrote his book and told horrible things about Elvis and then expressed his sorrow that Elvis had died before he was able to pay him back the cash he had loaned him to buy his house. Priscilla promptly sued him for it. I don't remember how it came out if I ever even heard, but it was funny.

Some of those guys had lived off Elvis' income for years. They strutted around like peacocks as if they had achieved great things in their lives...not all of them, but some of them did.

I need to find out how to upload photos here. I have so many beautiful Pictures both on stage and candid shots none of which I made myself. I purchased most of them from the folks who did.

When I was in London last weekend I went to see Million Dollar Quartet, it was brilliant. The star of the show was the guy playing old Jerry Lee Lewis. The whole show was amazing and the guy playing Elvis was mighty fine! Go and see it !

Two things, if I may......Today is my daughter's 28th birthday and she loves Elvis..AND Elvis hated being called "the king"...He always replied that he was an entertainer and Christ was The King...makes me admire the man even more so.

I just recently got into Elvis due to a friend of mine....been listening on youtube to some of his songs I never heard before.....he sings with a deep feeling more in the seventies than his commercialized songs....he really had a feeling towards his songs.

There were some ladies who had a banner that said, "Elvis: You're The King!" and he immediately stopped the show and pointed at them and said, "NO! I'm just a man! Jesus Christ is King!"

Elvis always had a keen interest in learning about all faiths. He was quite quite well read and owned many, many books that encompassed many religions, faiths and philosophies of life.

It's interesting that Elvis added a Star of David to his mother's tombstone, as she was not Jewish (unless I have really missed something)! If Gladys was Jewish, Elvis would have automatically have been Jewish, as are all children born to a Jewish mother. If his mother was not Jewish, the only way Elvis could have been Jewish would be if he formally studied and converted to that faith. He may have admired some tenets of Judaism, but I don't think at all that he was Jewish, either by birth or conversion. In one of his concerts, someone called him "The King", and he responded that "Jesus Christ is king"- a Jewish person would NEVER say that.

Just as an FYI, and certainly no offense meant, the Jewish faith does not believe in a literal heaven or hell, nor do they believe Jesus to be a prophet, savior or the literal
son of God. Jesus, a Jew, was literally a carpenter by profession and went on to be a great teacher and humanitarian- this is how he is viewed by those people who are of
the Jewish faith. (My husband is Jewish and through the years, we have discussed many aspects of Judaism, as well as many other faiths, religions and philosophies of life.)

The Presley family attended the Assembly of God Christian church- very fundamentalist and lots of Southern Gospel music. Elvis was very religious, but not tied to one faith alone. Priscilla said he was a big reader; a seeker of Truth. Just the other day, I heard Uri Geller talking about the first time he met El, who wanted to see him bend a spoon with his mind!

He's said to have Melungeons in his family tree. (me too) There's a lot of legends surrounding the Melungeons, all the way and including a lost tribe of Israel. Or descendants of ancient sailing races like the Phoenicians.
Maybe he wore the Star because he sensed a kinship with Jewish people?

Thank you so much for this post! I too love "The Prophet"- my mom had a copy of it and I recall reading it when I was a young teen...will have to look at again!

In regards to Elvis' Jewish lineage, I will locate and read "Schmelvis" ASAP. I truly had no idea of this history and am fascinated by it! Thanks again for the outstanding and little known information- it is most appreciated!

I just read that book, and yep, it's does shed light on a lot of things - including the "porno" book he was actually reading in the john when he died - and not some "religious" book.

Also the detailed description of his autopsy was pretty good. He probably would have been a whole lot more comfortable if he would have had surgery to clean out his impacted colon!

Hmmmm, that is one book on Elvis I have not read.

I too wished for a short while after his death that it was all a ruse. But I read somewhere that some guy from the funeral home stated HE unequivocally shoved cotton up Elvis' ass during the body preparation. Gosh, I even remember the spread the National Enquirer did showing a "ghost" in the doorway of the little guest house behind Graceland. It was supposed to be Elvis watching all the festivities. Good times......good times........

As much as I believe that Elvis is dead, the picture of Elvis in his coffin almost looks like it is a painting. The image just doesn't seem lifelike (well, okay, deathlike), and seems like it's got too much softness to it. The link to the photo on the Enquirer front page looks a little more lifelike, but something still just doesn't seem right.

There has to be someone else who got shots of Elvis in the box who could verify how Elvis looked.

Haha, people have obviously not done their research! Read what other's have said who were actually AT the funeral. His body looked like it was made of wax and it was "Melting" - Dead people don't sweat! There is a loooong list of "strange" things that happened before, and after Elvis "died."

He was also more involved in the FBI than anyone knows.
