For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Elvis has left the building!
Watched a movie the other day on cable about an Elvis concert tour in Las Vegas (6 gigs). Main focus was the preparation for the Vegas gig. Quite a bit of footage of him with the band rehearsing, and they were having a hoot. Nothing staged, you can see how easily the band related to Elvis, and their genuine affection for each other. They prepped the backup singers separately, and when they all met up it was magic. He was dynamite in the concert footage, and I am not a huge fan.
He was that good.

I got an email this week from my friend telling me that about the celebration of the day Elvis got his hair cut when he was inducted into the army. I had not heard of this before but it seems this has been going on for several years at the old army base, now closed. I just found it to be another example of the lasting devotion of the many Elvis fans. The article said that several hundred people show up for it every year. That's nothing like the crowds that come for other celebrations but after all, it was just a hair cut.
I went to Graceland with my mom when I was really young...6 or 7 maybe. The only thing I remember is Elvis' grave (and maybe his mothers grave?). Maybe that is when I became a death hag...hmm. My hubby and I are planning on going this summer and taking out 5 year old. I can't wait!
[quote=findadeathaddict;376217]In my opinion, no. I have read everything Elvis and watched everything Elvis......the only one that sort of comes close is "Elvis and Me", which is based on Priscilla's book -but in my opinion it is very one sided.... also, she was not with Elvis the last few years
I watched "Elvis and Me" when I was a kid and I loved it. It came on TV but I haven't been able to find it since then.I think seeing that movie is what got me interested in finding out who Elvis really was.
Great info you are all providing on Elvis. I too have a few photos "put away" of a concert I went to in Baton Rouge. I need to get them out and scan them, although all you can really see is Elvis from a distance in his white jump suit.
I really want to go to Graceland, and my hubby and I were on our way there coming back from Atlanta years ago, when we were in Nashville touring the old Ryman Auditorium and the security guard was kind enough to tell us to come back after lunch and he would let us in to watch a full rehearsal of a t.v. special with Vince Gill, and we did, which was fabulous as there was just a hand full of us in there he sang all his hit songs. We didn't make a sound in fear of being asked to leave and he turned to us and said " you can clap if you'd like to".
Never made it to Graceland, (I'm down here in New Orleans) but it's still on my list. I think there are many who think of Elvis as an old friend. I grew up in the fifties listening to him and to me back then his movies were a really big deal when they came out. Thanks for all the info on Elvis.
Last night on True Movies at 11 I found a filmed called Protecting the King, it's a film about David Stanley. The storyline is this:
Sex, drugs and violence--they're all part of the job when you're protecting The King of Rock & Roll. And when you're only 16, the on-the-job training comes in ways that can't be taught in school. The story of David Stanley, stepbrother and bodyguard of The King. Through the dizzying highs and lows of life on the road with unlimited excess, he experienced it all...and barely survived.
I did watch some of it, but it was boring and too slow. Also I find the stories of David and his family changing from time to time. One hand they slag off Elvis and with the other, they love him. Has anyone watched the whole film which came out in 2007? If so, was it any good or not?
Thats why she married mj...Both major stars, both strange because of fame and privacy.Elvis sang like an aa man.Close your eyes you hear a black mans voice. He had hanger oners so did mj.mj was accused of molestation.Elvis was 2.How old was cilla?MJ loved pills elvis loved pills. They both died wild deaths.proprofal sp mj and elvis trying to shit on the crapper.I bet if something would of fell out that would of been sold.mj at least loved lisa. Her 2nd hubby never gave a crap about her.He had a elvis crush.Once that wore off he was gone.Elvis bad manager mj bad father. So only race is left.Which elvis was not racist. Also these so called friends and family members.Didn't vernon's ex wife write about incest?Saying elvis had sex with his mom?
If you don't mind watching on the computer - youtube has Elvis & Me. I watched it not to long ago, at least part way through, so I am sure the entire movie is there, in segments.![]()
Great idea!! Thanks so much.
I watched all of it (a pre-released copy that a friend gave me) and I found the DVD to be not worth the disc it was pressed on.
First of all, let me clear up some things:
1. Elvis was never, ever accused of molestation. Had this happened, it would've been all over the press. The Colonel (wisely) kept it out of the papers that Elvis was seeing an underage girl - and Priscilla wasn't the only "underage" girl he was seeing while in Germany, either. And, for the record, Priscilla was 14 when she met 24-year-old Elvis in 1959 about six months before he left Germany and got out of the Army.
2. Elvis was on the toilet when he suffered the fatal heart attack but he had crawled a few feet on the floor when he suffered the heart attack and wound up next to the wall with his face buried in the carpet next to the wall - that's also why his nose didn't look like the "classic" nose that Elvis always had in the casket - that's what also having an autopsy done to you will happen - including a cranial autopsy.
3. Elvis's piece-of-scum stepmother did write an article for the National Enquirer implying that Elvis and his mother slept together but nobody was ever stupid enough to buy it so the so-called "book" never came to fruition.
"Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt and live like it's Heaven on Earth" - Mark Twain
I finally found my pictures made at Billy and Jo Smith's house. They weren't in the trunk that I thought they were. I have no idea how to upload them to this site.
I think the idea that Elvis and his mother had any kind of sexual relationship is ludicrous. One of the books about Elvis hinted at that, but it had a bunch of factual errors in it.

Some compare Elvis to God.. I mean He is good, but He is no Elvis
They have the Frank Sinatra "Welcome Home Elvis" Special on Netflix right now. Nancy Sinatra just hung on to him for dear life. It was kind of fun to watch. Even Frankie couldn't keep the "How dare you upstage me you little punk" look off his face. You could tell the old teen idol wasn't all that thrilled with the new one.
I don't know if anyone has heard or read about this but in going back in several books of mine on Elvis, I have found some unusual information about his so-called fiancee, Ginger Alden, and his stepbrothers Ricky and David Stanley and their behavior on the day he died. Seems that after she found Elvis's body, she called her mother and the National Enquirer before calling for help and also applied make-up before that! Also, it is said that Rick and David Stanley were supposedly zonked-out and derelict of duty by smoking dope with an un-named friend in the basement of Graceland. Just before the ambulance arrived at Graceland with paramedics, David quickly smuggled his "friend" out of the premises. 34 years later, David is not talking and said friend has never revealed himself. I find this all very troubling. Comments?
Ok so was Elvis downstairs smoking weed while they took out his doppelgangerin the ambulance?
No, E was on his bathroom floor. Supposedly his two stepbrothers were smoking weed when they were supposed to be on duty watching him and his girlfriend was still asleep.
This year, for the first time since 1956, Elvis is outside the top 1000 names given to newborn baby boys. Heard it on the BBC World Service this morning.

Years ago I read that Elvis had helped do something for a well known singer in the late 60's- early 70's. I can't remember if it was paying for hospital expenses, nursing home expenses, or a funeral. Can anyone help me with this bit of information?
I think you may be referring to Jackie Wilson, whom Elvis helped out.
Ya know - It would not surprise me one bit. I trust all of them as about as far as I can throw them. I remember something about Ginger's family suing the Estate after The King died because she said he told them he would get them a pool and/or pay off their house. That freakin burns me up... Assholes...
Thank you for sharing!

I also read Dr. Nick was paying EPE from 1977 to 2002 each month as he was paying back the estate on a heavy loan Elvis gave him for building Dr. Nick's outlandishly expensive home in Memphis. Dr. Nick still lives in it today.
After Elvid died we learned that he never had any real friends. He had leeches on his back sucking the blood out of him. That is the saddest thing about his life. They rushed to tell all the worst and meanest stuff. Even today many of them can't find a decent job because they are not qualified to do anything. I know Billy Smith truly loved Elvis, but even he got envolved with a crumbie book. Elvis deluded hiself about being adicted to drugs. He also deluded himself that George, Joe, Marty, Dave, either of the Stanley brother or Red and Sunny West, Dr. Nick. The list is too long. May they all rot in hell when their time comes.

CKX, the holding company that owns the production company behind “American Idol,” is being sold to private equity firm Apollo Global Management for $509 million. Besides 19 Entertainment, CKX also owns licensing rights for Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali, as well as a majority share of Presley’s Graceland mansion.
The City of Green Bay purchased Elvis's favorite roller coaster from a park in Memphis. Construction was supposed to be completed a couple weeks ago, but because of the wacky weather we have been having they pushed back the opening until May 21st. I took a ride down to the beach last week and took a couple pictures of the construction. I will hopefully be able to go back this summer when its open and get some pics of it in operation, and get a ride myself!
P.S. Here is the Wiki page for the ridehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zippin_Pippin

I watched Elvis and Me on youtube. It was okay but not as good as I remember it being. I also watched my very first Elvis movie...Jailhouse Rock. Loved it! I will own itAlso, I started reading Elvis and the Memphis Mafia and so far it is an awesome read. Some of the things I'm learning, I didn't want to know about Elvis but he wasn't perfect and never claimed to be. We are still planning a trip to Graceland this summer. I can't wait.
I hated, "Elvis & Me", because it was so damn one-sided in telling the story - Priscilla's story - and not Elvis's.
"Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt and live like it's Heaven on Earth" - Mark Twain
Yep Yep Yep - I feel the same way about Elvis and Me... Very one sided and makes "Cilla" out to be an innocent little "angel". (Insert barfing sound here).
My all time favorite Elvis movie is Viva Las Vegas - you just can't help but love the music and and feel the connection between him and Ann Margaret...
On a funny note my youngest daughter loves Elvis too (I wonder why) and she would watch Elvis movies in between her Wonder Pets and TinkerBelle movies. When she was about 3 years old she called me at work and wanted to watch "Beaver Las Vegas" and wanted to know where it was. Ahhhh, out of the mouths of babes....![]()
My Posse's On Broadway
Haha Beaver Las Vegas. That's so cute. You know, I tried to watch Viva las Vegas and I just couldn't get into it. Elvis was good in it and of course hot too! I blame it on Ann Margaret. You and Tony are both right. It is very one sided. Reading Elvis and the Memphis Mafia..umm welllll lets just say I have found out Priscilla is no saint if everything they are saying about her is true. The first time I watched Elvis and Me I was 8. It was a t.v. movie. I loved it. I guess it just goes to show how much your taste changes with age.
The top 1000? I didn't know we had a 1,000 boys names!! LOL That reminds me of a story. A woman gave birth to twins but was at a loss for names. They told her that she had to pick some for the records. Still stumped they told her to pick something that made her happy. Looking around the room she decided to name he kids Lemonjello and Orangejello. They asked her why she chose them and she said the didn't serve pudding.
My friend and I (and my Mom!) rode Elvis's roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin, Today! It was pretty fun! Its hard to imagine that little 'ol boring Green Bay has a roller coaster, let alone Elvis's roller coaster LOL.
They have a platform with one of the original cars on it in front of it, and you can climb up and sit in it and take pictures or what not. The also have this sign in the parking lot right in front of the ride.

My Brother lent me a copy of Elvis: The Last 24 hours book by Albert Goldman. My brother enjoyed the book and was shocked by some parts of it, so he lent it to me. I've not read it yet but plan to start it this week. Has anyone read it on here?
I grew up in Memphis and only live an hour outside the city now. I remember going to Liberty Land (the amusment park the Zippin Pippin was in) all the time when I was a kid. I never would ride the thing though LOL. Just standing on the ground watching the wooden frame shake as he cars passed by scared the crap out of me. I want to say I read that the zippin pippin was originaly from Coney Island???? There is alot of history behind that old wooden coaster. Glad it is in a good home.
