    Airshow Disasters

I figured this thread needed to be added to the bunch...

For many years I assumed the Ramstein Airshow disaster (67 Killed, 346 Injured) was the worst in history, but I was wrong...

The 2002 Sknyliv Ukraine disaster (85 Killed, 100 Injured) was more tragic in terms of fatalities, and this footage taken by an amateur spectator is as SURREAL and "SO REAL" as it gets...Remember, 85 Killed and 100 Injured...R.I.P. to ALL!...I also threw in the Ramstein footage for those who haven't seen it... PLEASE WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK...NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH...

Just to warn people, the Ukraine footage is pretty damn graphic and there are children involved. I watched this eons ago with my sister who is a nurse so of course while I was saying: Ew! she was pretty darn analytical about what she was seeing.

Wow, I'd never heard of or seen the Ukraine footage before, that's hardcore.

When I was a kid my dad took us to many, many airshows and after Rammstein I always wondered what would happen if there were a crash.

I was always terrified of airshows as a youngster (and I still fear those ultra-fast military jets). They have humongous airshows down here in Ft. Lauderdale and I never go to them. Love to watch them on t.v. though!

The combination of 'fuel and fire' have always been a concern to me also...don't like to be around them...especially at high speeds...

We were at an airshow in Arkansas and this guy in a jet went up and did a loop. The area around the runway had little bumps and hills in it, and he was a little too low when he came out of the loop, and bounced the belly of the plane off the fucking ground. It went 'bang!', dust flew, and he immediately came in to land. I looked at my Dad like, "WTF?!" as everyone around us started clapping. They seemed to think it was part of the show!

We went to a few of those on 'the strip.' Remember when it was called that?? (Or maybe still is??) I thought they were ever so exciting. (We used to live in Hollywood, off Sheridan and 95).

On the compilation of crashes in one of the links, I was at the show of the collision between the two Mig 29's (Yellow Sandy colour with twin tails). Unfortunately I had my back to it when it happened as I was eating a doughnut but I remember the crowd going silent and my brother in law looking at me and pointing at the sky.
Both pilots had bailed out and we heard that the pilot who had caused the collision had his jaw solidly punched by the other pilot just after they landed in their parachutes.

Hmmmm eating a doughnut, watching a spectacular crash...eating a doughnut, watching a spectacular crash.....hmmmmmmm that's a tough one actually. If the doughnut was a Boston Creme, I might pick that over watching a spectacular crash

Thats an amazing crash. Heres a link, has the same footage as the first link but with 3 additional minutes showing even more gore and another angle of the crash that shows the plane hitting the crowd of people.

The music in the Ramstein video is by the band Ramstein. Those of you who already knew these, forgive me.

Its at the end of the video I posted early on in the thread. Funny how the crowd just stands there when they see the plane coming in really low right at them.

Wow, that video is damn graphic. It's ridiculous how close some of those people filming got to being hit by the plane.

I wonder why they kept filming when the bottom of the plane was just o few feet from from the camera . Crazy. I wouldve been running like crazy.

I think they were just captivated by the airshow and completely oblivious that something tragic was happening...just my theory...

I believe it was the early 80's and I went to an airshow at Morristown Airport here in NJ.
They were offering helicopter flights on the far end of the runway so I stood there waiting.
I was less than 100 ft away from the runway and I see this small homebuilt airplane flying close off the ground, he goes into the show area and does some really nast climbs and banks. What I found really odd is the announcer just stayed silent.
After this guy finished his aeronautics he does a low pass over the field where I was waiting. The plane starts porpoising and then the canopy flies off, the wings fall off the guy noses into the runway where the plane explodes. It was too fast he burned to death.
I was leaving the airport parkinglot and I see some people walking towads the show. I told yhem about the crash and they said "OH is the show still going on"???????
I read in the paper that the guy in the homebuilt wasn't even part of the show he was (if I remember the airline right) a PanAM pilot who just felt like showing off.
    BRAVO.

My sister lives in Martinsburg as well. She was listening to the WLTF "Lite 97.5 FM" radio morning show the day after the crash and THREE times during that program she heard that the death toll at the Martinsburg air show was at TEN even though the night before the two local TV stations ABC ( Winchester, VA ) and NBC ( Hagerstown, MD ) had reported that only the pilot was killed which was the case. From what she was telling me WLTF never did correct that wrong bit of info at all. Myself, dunno..don't listen to WLTF but with their current "lack of professional staff"..why am I not surprised

    yea.

I work at the VA and we took several veterans to the air show on friday for military appreciation day. Sad that it happened but THANK GOD it did not happen when we were there. Living with PTSD and having a bus full of guys would have been VERY bad for us to see. I am not from here, but it is a nice enough area....miss southern va though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG1f3ukUxYI Ramstein airshow footage documentary, hubby was telling me his friend's dad was there that day taking pictures and saw it happen, I think he, the friend has pictures of the crash that his dad took. And yes the band Rammstein is named after this disaster, but they added an extra M which means ramming stone, in German.

I saw a vid of an air show tragedy, but I'm not sure it was this one.

(I moved the haunted crashes to Aviation.)
