I've been singing Freddie's songs for years and will perform them for Karaoke, too, with compliments. <L> I don't look like him, I'm a 5'4" female. Do you resemble Freddie?
There's no way his memory could ever die, but I'm glad Brian and Roger kept their promises.

ROFL I love that movie, and that scene is priceless!!!

Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favs to sing at Karokee as well... I think Freddie would be proud of his fans for keeping his music alive, and continuing to love and respect him!

Recently I watched a Queen concert on TV......I enjoyed it soooo much, but was very sad knowing there would never be more songs sung by Freddie. I love him and miss him. RIP Freddie.

Hahaha! Wow, she does have kinda crazy eyes.

I just watched that video again. So sad that such an amazing musician and person had to get such a horrible disease.

I lucked up on a paperback copy of this book over a year ago at a used bookstore for $1.75. Just saw it in my bookcase the other night and I think I need to read it again.

    LOL!! Don't hate!
The funny thing is, when I went to the bookstore that day I wasn't even looking for that particular book. I love to read biographies/autobiographies, so I was over in that area. I found a hardcover book called The Kennedy Curse the same day I found Mercury & Me. Also picked up the book Bette Davis' daughter wrote My Mother's Keepter, I think it's called. Got a total of 12 books that day for about $10. I love that bookstore! It's time for me to make another trip.

He did find out a year after Freddie, but there is no information about how long Freddie had it or from where he contacted it. I did a search online, but all I could find was an interview on youtube, but that was in 1994...

YouTube - Jim Hutton - Interview (1994 The Big Breakfast)

I'll keep looking and If I find anything I'll put it on here....

Thank you! I think he's still living in Ireland if I'm not mistaken. It just makes me wonder if Freddie could be alive today somehow since Jim Hutton is.

Yea, last I heard he was alive and well in Ireland. I think Freddie had AIDS longer, and since he never really acknowledged it until the end, he was never treated, well. He died from pneumonia, in his home.... It makes me terribly sad to think he may have been able to live longer had he swallowed his pride a little and just went to the doctors.... But I know he was a private person, and I get his choices... just the selfish part of me wishes he was still here...

Freddie is alive and well and living in Japan. On the thread about celebrity's deaths that really affected you, I should have put Freddie as I actually cried real tears when I found out. I have never cried for another celeb before or after so this is with the utmost respect:

I love Freddie Mercury half to death....pardon the expression, but I am a death hag. I always will love Freddie.

I will never forget when I watched The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert For AIDS Awareness on one of our local music TV stations here in the Great White North. Mr. Jangles and I were well oiled, but I taped it. We'd pop the tape in sometimes while drinking beer and re-watch certain segments...

To this day, when Mr. Jangles is in an exceptionally good mood, he'll belt out a bit of "Bi-cycle! Bi-cycle! I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike!"

Who couldn't love Freddie and Queen?!

I LOVE that film and when I do play Don't Stop Me Now, all I can think of is zombies and pub fighting. Queen were an amazing band and Freddie was a brilliant singer too

Like all diseases, it effects ppl different ways.
We all have different immune systems to begin with.
And who is to know how advanced Freddie's was before he actually found out he had it. If his lover found out in the very early stages, meds have come a long way to keep the person alive/healthy/active since the ones they used in the '80's..

Ironically, I have a gay friend who has had HIV for yearrrrssss, and has had the same partner for close to 20 years, and his partner is negative.
    Go figure.

    Hi folks.

I've been lurking around this site for awhile now, and I finally decided to take the plunge and join. I've read through this thread on Freddie, and I just wanted to add a few little things for anyone who might still be interested. Maybe some of what I'm going to say has already been covered. If so, forgive me. It's entirely possible that I might have missed something or I might be repeating.

First, I absolutely love and adore Freddie.

Freddie was born with four extra teeth, which is why his teeth protruded. I believe I've heard that this is not uncommon in the Parsi community, which Freddie was a part of. Freddie did actually see a dentist about having his teeth straightened, but when he learned the treatment would involve breaking and re-setting his jaw, he decided against it, fearing it might affect his ability to sing or change his voice in some way.

I have heard that Freddie learned he was HIV positive some time between 1986 and 1988. Freddie did actually take prescribed medicine for his illness, but at some point, he made a conscious decision to stop taking the medicine and allow his disease to run its course. Freddie used to say that he didn't think he would ever "make old bones."

Mary Austin is not the president of the Queen fan club. Jacky Smith runs the Queen fan club. www.queenworld.com

Ross McCall was the child actor who played Freddie's part in "The Miracle" video. Ross went on to do some acting in London's West End, he appeared in "Band of Brothers", and at one point he was engaged to Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Robert Plant (whom I also love bunches) was disappointed with his performance at Freddie's tribute show because he forgot the lyrics to "Innuendo" half way through, which is why he started singing the lyrics to "Kashmir". I have heard that Brian was not super happy about that (Brian wasn't happy with Bowie doing the Lord's Prayer at the show, either), and in fact, some Queen fans are not happy about it either. I'm not bothered. I love Robert and am happy that he showed up to tribute Freddie.

For all those of you who have said you love Brian -- I actually met Brian a few years ago, and he was every bit as lovely as you imagine he is, so you're right to love him (nevermind this "new Queen" business ).

That's it for now, I think. Long first post.... sorry folks.

I've been a Freddie Mercury fan for 29 years and my biggest regret is never seeing him perform in a concert.

"Greatest" - it's the most suitable word to describe him. Besides the songs he did with "Queen", I liked a lot his duet with one of the greatest opera singers of all time - Montserrat Caballe. It's extremely sad that such a talented and unique people are taken from us so early... ((
