Yeah, I'm just grateful there are so many recordings to listen to. Imagine if they only recorded like 2 or 3 albums and then he died? damn that would have been even more tragic.
From everything I've read and viewed (DVDs) Freddie seemed to know, at least by his teens, that he was going to do something special and be famous or infamous.
It's as if he decided to make his mark on the world no matter what it took and I'm so glad that he did. He was truly a one-off, one in a million.

That Lego stuff made me almost pee my pants!!!! Someone seriously has too much time on their hands, but I will say that if I were a Lego PR person, I'd be getting this guy some commercial air time.

I think Freddie would have been still doing music with Queen...I remember crying when I learned he died. I didn't see the press conference the day before where he admitted he had AIDS...so when I heard the news I was FLOORED. I wonder how long he had it. I think Freddie probably would have still done Risky stuff if he had known more about HIV...I think that was just part of his personality part of what made him him and that's the part we all loved....It's just a shame he's not around, taken way too young. People take risks everyday most don't die from thier mistakes after all these years I still say Why do people have to die from this disease.

Freddie named the group and designed the logo. Brian, with all his delayed gratification over wanting to be the 'star' might as well re-name the group. It isn't Queen without Freddie!

Jason and I discussed way back in this thread seeing Queen in 2006 with Rodgers singing lead.

I will always be happy that I went....I bought the tix as a gift for my ex who is a huge Queen fan and although Rodgers is a great singer and his Bad Company days can not be taken away from him, it was missing Freddie.

I did love when they did Days of our lives and found myself crying watching the old videos of Freddie and the band that they played on the screen. There were some black and white ones of them in Japan way back when.

Anyone who does not know the song (if you are still out there!) here is the video, it is one of the best songs ever!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOJPvxgkvn8

So all in all, I am glad I went and got to see them really do a tribute to Freddy.

A new Freddie is good if, and only if, you can get him together with Queen. I've never been of the mind to think that a group has to retire if someone dies. If they want to, sure, but they don't have to. How do you tell Brian May that he can never play his old songs again, if he wants to.

In the meantime, do we need a new Freddie? Paul Rodgers is a great singer, and the rest of Queen seem to be happy with him. Let it go at that. I'm not rushing out to buy tickets in either case.

They should just let the name Queen die. If they want to re-form under a new name with a new singer then that is fine. There is no Queen without freddy no matter how you tart it up. Brian May should just move on, let face it , he has been lost for years.

I agree, Neil, but I will say that as a HUGE Queen fan I was prepared to HATE Paul Rodgers singing for them. I have to say, though, that he has done a tremendous job.

To be fair, the reviews I have read about his singing have been positive also.

I don't know if this was posted before, but I feel the need to share it here.....my all time favourite Freddie comeback.

Sid Vicious: "Oi, Fred! I see you're still trying to bring ballet to the masses, then?"

Fred: "Ah, Mr. Ferocious. Well, we're doing our best, dear.".

    Classic Freddie!

    Exclamation freddie mercury

I like that Brian May and Roger Taylor are doing exactly as Freddie requested of them to not let his music die. I think that John Deacon should get back to work with them. And Lest we forget, Freddie's idol was Jimi Hendrix. Freddie spent the last days of his life recording new music for Queen. Freddie would have never wished for them to let him become forgotten, since his dying request was to keep his music alive.

Freddie was the greatest.. no comparison.. the biggest voice ever... I was only 9 when he died, but I remember the newscast saying that he was gone... and I remember people talking about how ill he was and so on.

The music by queen has had a big influence in my life.. I got into them during those terrible teen years, when everything sucks.. and their music was one of the things that helped me to the other side of that

My personal fav Queen song is "Love of my life" it brings tears to my eyes every single time I hear it... Those were the days is another fav... that video was absolutely Freddie´s goodbye to the world - and what a line to go out on. "I still love you"... To see him in the video is so saddening - what horrible pain he must have been in, but in the same way, joyful - to be able to perform like that, in that stage of your life, takes some courage and strenght. He was a star to the end!!

    RIP Freddie

Here we get into a philosophical question (and maybe even one that should have its own thread): when is a group no longer the same group? Does The Who still exist without its magnificent rhythm section? There are at least two senior citizens who think so - they keep using the name.

Jethro Tull has lost or swapped out literally every member except Ian Anderson, and most of them multiple times. Is it still Jethro Tull? Or at some point should Ian Anderson be told that he needs to just tour under his own name?

The group that is currently touring as Yes has only one original member, and it isn't lead singer Jon Anderson. Is it Yes simply because Chris Squire owns the rights to the name, and has put a group together?

    Any thoughts?

Dunno, Ratkin, but I loved seeing Van Halen earlier this year with Eddie, Dave, Alex.....and loved Wolfie! I like when junior joins the band....same blood, but younger, right? Same with Jason Bonham in Zep. Keep the brand going.....

    Thumbs up Freddie Mercury

I Loved Freddie Mercury and I will sing his music every time I sing Karaoke in my neck of the suburban sprawl I live in, and I always get compliments. I am proud that Brian and Roger keep HIS memory alive as per his request at his deathbed. It would be too easy to just sit back and let his memory die as well as his body.
