    Gene Hackman 1930 - 2025

It's just been reported that Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog have all been found dead in their New Mexico home. The bodies were discovered on Wednesday morning when the police performed a welfare check. At the moment they don't believe foul play is involved but his cause of death is unknown and they are awaiting a warrant.

Just my opinion but it sounds like carbon monoxide poisoning or something like that for all three to pass and there being no evidence of foul play.

arty from what I read they had died days later, there were open pill bottles found near his wife in the bedroom, also the gas company is getting involved in the investigation, wonder if they died from carbon monoxide inhalation, or something else.

Yeah, the more that's been revealed today, the weirder things get. A report said they hadn't been seen for two weeks so maintenance workers went to check and found the door open with no sign of a forced entrance and when found, the two of them were partially mummified. When requesting the search warrant, the detective said it was suspicious and firefighters were called to the house but at the time could find no gas leaks.

This really is a shock! One of the best actors ever to come out of Hollywood. This is too much. RIP.

This is so creepy. What was this? Murder/Suicide? Did one of them have a terminal illness and the other one decided they couldn't live without them? That poor dog. Why did it have to be involved in this?

I find that they hadn't been seen for two weeks alarming, no one went to the house, no mail, and the door was ajar? Very odd. Both my parents lived to be 96 and I checked on them everyday when they were still alive. A missed call and I would panic. You you think his children would have stayed in closer touch when a parent gets to be that elderly.

The more I read about this, the more is DOES sound like a robbery. The reason being, is the dog in the bathroom closet. What pet owner puts their dog in a closet? But somebody that WOULD put a dog in a closet is somebody who wants to prevent a dog from attacking them. Most likely the dog surely would not attack Gene, or his wife. But the dog was a German Shepard, which is a breed that is highly protective of their owners. I think the dog was trying to protect the Hackmans from an intruder and was put in the closet by the intruder, so the intruder could commit whatever crimes they were there for. How tragic for the Hackmans and their dog.

According to a statement, Gene's pacemaker said he passed on the 17th so nine days between it happening and him being found. They don't know or aren't saying anything about his wife or who was the first to die. The carbon monoxide/gas theory has been ruled out as a cause. The dog thing is a puzzler as there were still two wandering around while the other one was locked away so if there was an intruder (which I'm not saying there isn't) surely he would have locked them out of the way too....or maybe the german shepherd was the most protective while the others were docile...I honestly have no idea.

Maybe the other two dogs were outside and the third one was let in by Gene or his Wife, who knows it's all so odd, and open bottle of pills where the wife was.

Results are in for their CODs and wow...

It's been confirmed both deaths are natural with Betsy dying of a respiratory disease called hantavirus. She probably thought she was getting the flu and most likely died on the 11th of February. While doing the autopsy, it was found that while Gene tested negative for hantavirus, he was suffering from advanced Alzeimers and likely didn't even realised she had passed. His cause of death was heart disease and as stated prior, the best guess is that he died on the 18th February as that was the last time his pacemaker registered. As for why the dog as in the crate, he had been at the vet and Betsy had just picked him up.

Hopefully now this has been revealed, people will stop trying to vilify his daughters by claiming they had something to do ith it. They likely won't but they should.

This is so gruesome! It would've been more humane and less tragic, if the carbon monoxide theory was what really happened.

Shellie , I hadn't seen anyone saying they thought their daughters had something to do with it , but I do think the daughters should have had more contact if their old Dad had Alzheimers and was 95 years old .

It was mostly Twitter and blind sites like CDaN who came right out and claimed one of them did it but I saw it on other places as well like The Daily Mail which did their usual thing of dropping hints without actually coming out and saying it.

I do agree 100% about them dropping the ball when it came to visiting.

How the heck did his wife get this disease? Poor Gene. I did not realize he had Alzeimers. So strange and sad.

That is just so sad, I can only imagine him wandering the house not knowing or realizing what had happened. Heartbreaking. I did not think the daughters had anything to do with this, but they should have been in closer contact with him considering his age. Unless they had a problem with her.

Hantavirus usually develops when a human comes in contact with mice droppings, like if someone is cleaning a garage or attic, where mice are present. The sheriff at the press conference said that Gene's wife came in contact with deer mice droppings. What bothers me is that she would've known she was very sick, but probably didn't want to be hospitalized, because she thought there was nobody that could take care of Gene. Very sad.

Seemingly for the first week or so, it causes flu like symptoms so she may have just assumed it was that she had and self medicated for the reasons you say.

I don't know the details of this case, but

People get nasty when a large amount of money is in the balance. I can see people ignoring each other over a re-written will or a new spouse. Happens to poor people too.

Would like to add a friend's family did business with Gene and they liked him a lot. Really sad case.

His kids left out of the will, with a source saying for reasons well known to them. Sounds like Joan Crawford.
