The actress who appeared in Hi-de-Hi! has passed away at the age of 79.

Digging deeper into her film, TV and stage work, I read that she appeared as Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. That whole graveyard musical number still gives me the heebie-jeebies, lol. Not all of the singing, dancing dead were "old", some characters were made to look "young" - a reminder to the viewer that not everyone makes it to old age. The movie is such a tribute to Marc Chagall: the use of colors, the recreation of rural Russia etc.

Hi-de-Hi is still one of my fave shows. Everyone was great but Ruth was a standout as Gladys Pugh and her longing for Simon Cadell's Jeffrey. Hello Campers! RIP Ruth.
