Reports: Maddie taken by pedophile ring

    • Story Highlights
    • Portuguese police case file reveal more leads in Madeleine McCann disappearance
    • Email from British police suggests Madeleine taken by pedophile ring
    • Ring followed three-year-old girl before snatching her, reports claim

(CNN) -- British police were told in March this year that missing girl Madeleine McCann may have been kidnapped by a pedophile ring which followed her three days before her abduction, according to reports.
Britain's Daily Telegraph and The Sun newspapers both reported Thursday that an email released this week as part of the documents compiled by the Portuguese investigators probing Madeleine's disappearance revealed the connection to the ring.
Madeleine was 3 when she disappeared May 3, 2007, while she was on holiday with her family at the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz. Her disappearance prompted headlines worldwide.
According to the newspapers, the email was sent on March 4 by a London-based Metropolitan Police intelligence officer to Leicestershire police -- Madeleine's home county -- who then forwarded it on to investigators in Portugal more than a month later.
In the email, which both newspapers printed a copy of, the officer writes that "intelligence suggests that a pedophile ring in Belgium made an order for a young girl three days before Madeleine McCann was taken.
"Somebody connected to this group saw Maddie, took a photograph of her and sent it to Belgium. The purchaser agreed the girl was suitable and Maddie was taken," the officer wrote.
The Daily Telegraph reported the Portuguese police then asked Interpol to investigate. However, nothing appears to have come of the lead. Watch how Madeleine McCann may have been abducted to order ยป
Belgium has already featured in the case, with a reported sighting on the Dutch/Belgian border last August already discounted.
The case files, released by the Portuguese investigators this week after they shelved the investigation for lack of evidence last month, have provided a raft of leads for the media to report.
On Tuesday, the documents revealed a previously undisclosed sighting of Madeleine in the Netherlands shortly after her disappearance.
The possible sighting of Madeleine in May 2007 stemmed from a report by a Dutch shopkeeper, who told authorities she encountered a little girl in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
She said the child identified herself as Maddie and said she was taken from her mother while on holiday.
"I start to ask where her mommy was," Anna Stam said. "She couldn't tell me that. I wanted to give her a balloon, but she didn't want that. She only wants her mommy, she said. And she said that these people took her from her mommy."
At one point, authorities had named the girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, as "arguidos," or suspects, along with a British man living in Portugal, Robert Murat. But a spokesman for the Portuguese public prosecutor's office said authorities found no evidence of involvement by any of the three and were no longer considering them "arguidos."
After closing the case, police turned their case file -- containing up to 30,000 pages -- over to attorneys and private investigators working for the McCanns.
The McCanns have vowed to keep searching for their daughter.

that makes me nauseated to think that she's alive and with pedophiles.
can't they get a child porn specialist to find out?!

Here is another thing I don't get and it may be because this happened in a different country. This is in regards to the missing child in Orlando. Her mother is arrested with child neglect, making false statements and hindering an investigation and is being held on $500,000 bond. Why didn't Madeline's parents have charges brought against them for child neglect, they should have had three cases against each. This is totally ignored and then they win a lawsuit. Unfuckingbelieveable!

Lisa, do you know anything about this? Is it just some crackpot? They seem to know a lot. I'll have to look up this Keith Dwayne Nelson when I have time.

That guy is a nut. The first girl he listed as a victim of this guy, Jennifer Renee Odom Blanton, is widely suspected to have been a victim of Joseph Smith, the scumbag who killed Carlie Brucia.

The guy he keeps mentioning as the murderer was only convicted of one, Pamela Butler.

He gets called out in this blog.

Why would anyone put innocent families through that kind of crap? Someone has a serious chemical imbalance, I think.

i think the reason for the neglect and endangerment charge was the fact that she waited a month to report that she was missing. i know the mccann's did leave their kids unattended, but if u ever have watched the 48 hours program on them, they really were not that far away from the room and were checking on the kids frequently. i dont think a neglect charge would hold because they were checking in on them.

I still don't see what makes this out to be "In Extreme Danger"...at least, I didn't see it in the article. I saw the pic of the mom and while not really a MILF IMO, I didn't see a reason why she would pose a danger to her kids. If she was so dangerous, why would Children's Services grant her unsupervised visits?

I do hope the kids are ok though in any case...

I was joking about the mom, but truthfully, bad psycho parents get unsupervised visits all the time. Just look through the Other Deaths in the News section.

from what i saw on NG about the kids~ the mother had lost custody & might be suffering from some mental disorder~ she was to attend a custody hearing soon & was afraid of losing her kids for good~ i guess she had not brought the kids back from unsupervised visits before~ the grandmother said, she doesn't think that the mother has any supplies to even take care of these kids while on the run w/ them~

so i ask if she has a habit of not returning the kids, why would she be allowed more unsupervised visits again?~

Not necessarily. Depends on how the law was written. Even sometimes when a non-custodial parent has run with the kids before, the law allows them to have unsupervised visits. Makes me scratch my head and go "why?" but that's how it is sometimes.

I saw parts of it, Ra. He seems to be adjusting. He still isn't telling everything, not at that point, yet. He did say he knew the younger boy was going to be his replacement and he was afraid of dying every single day.

I watched the whole thing. Shawn is amazing. Thank heavens his family believes in therapy - I am sure that is helping, but he is one strong young man. He made a deal with the devil and came out alive.

He said himself there are things he hasn't told his parents and that he is not ready to deal with them yet, but he will some day.

To have gone thru what he has and to come home and be okay is just mind boggling.

I grew up in contra costa county and remember seeing the news when each of these girls disappeared, they were around my age too, it was scary, similar M.O. never caught the perp or perps. Each time a kid disappeared the parents restricted our perimeters, especially after Amber swartz garcia, right out of the front yard. We were then only allowed to play in the backyard, you would call a friend, their parents would walk them over and you would play in the backyard. No more riding bikes up and down the street.
A schoolmate of mine was kidnapped and recovered alive about a year later, but she will probably never be the same, we never talked about "it".

Thanks for the link, I looked so long I almost fell asleep. I too wonder how so many can go missing with no one knowing. Some have no one looking for them but others must. It's just so sad. I pray that one couple who is fostering an abandoned child get to keep her. They can't adopt her b/c she was abandoned.
It's really sad because everyone is only worried about missing persons who are conventionally attractive - young children, pretty white thin girls, etc. But the average missing person is a middle-aged man, and the person most likely to go missing is an Indian woman. It's as if you're not a full human being deserving of help unless someone can look at your picture and say "precious sweetie".

Look up Nyleen Kay Marshall. I would give you the info, but I'm on my way out the door. She vanished some years ago and some sicko has written letters to the police for years claiming to have her. Some people just like to screw with the families and law enforcement. Which, in my opinion, is just as evil as the bastards who prey on kids!
We had one of those in Alberta - a young woman went missing with her car after closing up the bar she managed one night. The family went to the police but also contacted the media. A few weeks later they received a package of absolutely horrible photos of "their daughter" being gang raped by a bunch of guys wearing ski masks.

They found the poor young woman a few years later. Fire department divers practising in the river found her car with her still in it behind the wheel, fully dressed with her seatbelt on. They think the car hit a patch of black ice and skidded into the river in the middle of the night.

As far as anyone could figure out, whoever sent the photos staged them and sent them to the family to get attention and to cause the family pain. In none of the pictures is the "victim"'s face clearly visible.

    Couple Never Found

This couple was from the same county I am from. The whole matter really bothered me. These two people never got to say goodbye to their children, and no one will probably ever know what really happened. I could not find an article on it, but a man was caught with one of their credit cards and when interviewed by police stated that he took it off of a dead body on a boat. . . . . .Some say that it was "modern day pirates", drug dealers needing a boat for their drug runs:

    Mystery shrouds Ashland pair's disappearance
COSTA RICAN TOURISM MARRED BY SERIES OF CRIMES, ACCIDENTS
    By Brian Harris
    SPECIAL TO THE HERALD-LEADER

PLAYA FLAMINGO, Costa Rica - When recently-wed Ashland residents Mark and Laura Vockery boarded the Kingfisher I here on July 29, they
planned to spend a day enjoying some of Costa Rica's famed deep-sea
    catch-and-release fishing.

But there's been no trace of the 27-foot boat or the five people on
board -- the Vockerys and three crew members -- for more than three
    weeks.

Their disappearance has become the most recent example of the perils
facing tourists in this Central American country at a time when tourism
is bringing in a record haul of visitors.

The official search has been called off. Mark Vockery's brother, Bill,
has been to the country to help with search efforts, and has returned
home with his brother's and sister-in-law's luggage.

The families of the missing couple and of the Costa Rican crewmen --
Harold Gutierrez, 25; his brother Danilo Gutierrez, 21; and Mayel
Gomez, 16 -- have plenty of questions about what happened.

"You have no idea what kind of a loss this is," said Charles A. Gordon,
Laura Vockery's father. "I feel like Mark and Laura went on vacation
and they'll be on vacation the rest of my life."

Some suggest the boat could have been robbed, but much of the public
attention has focused on the craft's seaworthiness.

The Kingfisher I went out to sea without all its paperwork in order.
Its safety equipment had not been checked by local officials. The local
coast guard station was not even aware that the boat had set sail. The
boat had been in the water only three days after years in drydock.

Jose Alberto Rod-riguez, owner of the missing boat -- and cousin of its
captain and his first mate, Harold and Danilo Gutierrez -- said the
boat had "the best equipment available" on board, with safety measures
more than adequate. The boat's fiberglass hull, built in 1977, was
totally refurbished and refitted this year, Rodriguez said.

The captain, Harold Gutierrez, spent his whole life fishing on the sea,
but this was his first trip on the Kingfisher I. In Costa Rica,
captains aren't required to be licensed.

Miguel Corrales, head of the local coast guard -- who never boarded the
boat -- said the Kingfisher I did not carry a radio. The coast guard
station in this beach town does not have a patrol boat.

The port captaincy said the Kingfisher I did not have a certification
of seaworthiness, which Rodriguez admitted he had not secured. But Port
Captain Edgar Fernandez conducted a preliminary inspection of the craft
on July 13 and found no reason for it not to be formally registered in
    its owner's name.

Local seaworthiness inspections, conducted once a year, usually take
    less than 30 minutes.

On the day the Vockerys set out, they planned to do some blue-water
fishing for sailfish and marlin in the morning about 20 miles from
shore. The boat would then sail to the Catalina Islands, which can be
seen from the beach and are a good spot for wahoo, yellowfin and
snapper. They planned to return at 4:30 p.m. The boat was last seen
near the islands in the early afternoon.

Mark Vockery, 42, and Laura Vockery, 41, were on a first-anniversary
vacation -- a delayed honeymoon, friends say.

Rodriguez said the couple booked their trip through the Paradisus Playa
Conchal, a full-service resort on a secluded, white-sand beach about
five hours' drive from the Costa Rican capital, San Jose. The area is
known for all-terrain vehicle tours, scuba-diving, world-class surfing
and deep-sea fishing. Hotel managing director Sildelau Salcedo said his
hotel has "responsible" safety procedures but would not comment on
Rodriguez's assertion that the Vockerys booked their trip through his
    hotel.

Tourism is Costa Rica's main source of income, with 1.6 million
visitors expected to spend $2 billion here this year. But the past 12
months have been marked by a series of unwanted reminders that this
tropical destination, despite its relative prosperity, is still a
developing nation with poverty and social inequities.

In addition to an overall rise in crime against tourists, a Texas
couple drowned in May when their boat tipped over, two separate
drownings have occurred on river rafting trips, and an Australian
University of Florida exchange student was murdered less than 20 miles
from where the Vockerys set sail. It took authorities more than three
months to find the student's body, less than 3 miles from where he was
    last seen.

"My gut feeling is I bet there are this many accidents in Long Island
Sound," travel guide author Elliot Greenspan said. But he added that
the country's failure to require any type of licensing for captains is
"a terrible oversight, the sea is a serious element."

The government does not keep statistics on crimes and injuries suffered
by tourists and seems unwilling to publicize problems that might damage
the country's image as a peaceful and safe place.

After the Kingfisher I disappeared, the Costa Rican, Nicaraguan and
U.S. coast guards, the Red Cross and local fishermen searched well into
Nicaraguan territorial waters to the north. They found no sign of the
    boat.

Rodriguez said he hopes his family members, clients and boat are found
safe. He doubts that the boat could have sunk and instead speculates it
    might have been stolen.

"This really hurts me because we are talking about family members,"
Rodriguez said of his concern for his cousins.

Jeannette Rodriguez, 44, mother of the missing captain and first mate,
spent the local Mother's Day holiday on Monday with her three other
children. Last week she made a 450-mile round trip to visit a shrine to
the country's Catholic patron to pray for her sons' safe return.

In Kentucky, friends and family have held prayer vigils for the
Vockerys, who have four children by previous marriages.

Gordon, Laura Vockery's father, remains suspicious of the
    disappearance.

"I suspect criminal activity," Gordon said, but he declined to say more
for fear that it could jeopardize any investigation. "I haven't given
up hope," he said. "I don't think they're on the water anywhere."

Actually Duster, its not. Costa Rica is located on the strip of land that connects North America and South America. The Bermuda Triangle is located off the coast of Florida.

    Wow

Do you think it's true he took it off a dead body on a boat? If so, he would have had to be there when they killed. If the boat was taken, they surely would have dumped the bodies. If they only stole what they could they would have either tried to sink the boat (although doubtful) or it would have drifted off to sea, I would think.

I am interested in what her dad thinks, & why that would have anything to do with the investigation.
