    Loretta Lynn

I was hesitant to post this because there's rumors of hoax. However it was on MSN via AP and Channel 5 News this morning.

A True Country superstar and legend .The Coal Miners Daughter. Rest In Peace, Loretta. Thanks for the music
Loretta Lynn’s family said she died Tuesday at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

“Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement. Lynn already had four children before launching her career in the early 1960s, and her songs reflected her pride in her rural Kentucky background.

I can't say I was a huge fan but no one can deny how influential she was. Legend is a word that is used too flippantly today but I think in Loretta's case it is well deserved.

I think it is. She was one of those entertainers that could get up on stage devoid of pyrotechnics, theatrics or a circus like atmosphere and stand their and sing. I have only seen a few who could do that, Streisand and Shirley Bassey were incredible live. But then they could really sing. Having seen Madonna and Janet Jackson in person with all the said distractions to keep you interested, one could say they needed that to hide the fact they were more of a personality then a singer. A bit of a rip off when half of the songs are with recorded vocals. You could tell when they switched to live because their voices were so thin! LOL.

So true. It's obvious who uses help and who doesn't. That's why it's hilarious when you hear fans of certain artists claim they are the best at live vocals when the truth is they are only that good because they have help. Sounds silly but this is why I wish time machines were real then I could go back and listen to the likes of Patsy Cline, Linda Ronsdadt, Stevie Nicks, Lynyrd etc live rather than having to just watch them on a screen. I know many who refuse to go to gigs if it is just someone standing there but as you say, if you have the voice, you don't need anything else to entertain. There are a few current who I think could hold up against them but not many unfortunately.

Most artists need help today.Lol. I saw Sade back in 2011 here in Toronto. Just her, the band and simple staging and she was amazing. Maybe because she is old school, she certainly delivered! A friend of mine saw Linda and said the same thing, no gimmick just her talent. On YouTube you can hear Patsy doing Lovesick Blues from Patsy Cline Live At The Cimarron Ballroom. I would loved to have seen her in person, she really had the gift!

I saw Jerry Lee Lewis back in around 1980 in my old high school gym, just him and a piano. He was a killer, and I was deaf in one ear had just 75% hearing in the other.

Yeah, it was something all right and not just the singing. I was with my aunt and our roommate. The only thing separating me from Jerry was a smallish breezeway below and to the right of the stage. So, the Killer was rocking it, and the roommate screams, "JERRRRRY!" And he looked straight at me. I was so embarrassed I wanted to go POOF!

She's already in the ground. They had a small ceremony for her yesterday and she got buried next to "Doo" in the family cemetery on the ranch grounds.

I'm a big fan of hers. I saw her in concert back in 2002 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco. Buck Owens opened up for her. After the show was over, I ran outside to the front of the venue, since she had her tour bus parked there on the street. I had an old paperback copy of her Coal Miner's Daughter autobiography book and a brand new black Sharpie pen. She came walking down the sidewalk holding up her dress on both sides with two bodyguards walking on either side of her. I held out the book as she walked by and asked if she would sign it. She said she would and had one of the guys take it from me as she got on the bus. At the time she was dealing with some sort of respiratory illness and couldn't get too close to her fans. A few minutes later the bodyguard came off the bus and handed my book back to me. She had signed it "Love You, Loretta Lynn" on the inside title page. She also kept my pen! But I didn't care! LOL!

Me and my friends hung out in the city for a couple of hours and decided to drive by the venue on our way home and we saw the bus still sitting out there since Loretta was still signing autographs for her fans! Now, that was an appreciative celeb there!

    RIP First Lady of Country...

I watched an old 60 Minutes with Loretta and Mike Wallace, she was wonderful but he made me cringe with some of the things he said or asked her! Not cool.

My Mom is a HUGE Loretta Lynn fan (and a Conway fan) and she loved her music. It's sad to see the real legends of country music pass but....we're only here for what seems like a little while and then we're gone. (And I don't mean for that last part to sound or read as insensitive because I don't mean it that way).

RIP, Loretta. You're now with the Lord and with your beloved "Doo" (who, I believe, helped Loretta in her early years by taking her to radio stations so she could be heard. Is that true?)

It was in Coal Miner's Daughter, but I don't remember if that portrayal was embellished or not.

Yes, that part was true about the radio station tour. I've seen it mentioned in various articles over the years.

I'm not too fond of Doo since all he did was cheat on her for practically their whole marriage until his health got bad and he couldn't anymore.
