You're right as usual John! It does indeed need to be watched as a stand-alone, because it doesn't evoke the original series at all.

I'm sure most of you have seen the ad's on NBC, Knightrider is returning to TV, February 17th. This is a 2 hour TV movie that will be used as pilot for a possible series. This movie will be a "sequel" to the original series as it picks up in contemporary time with a new driver and a new car.

The Hoff will have a cameo appearance as Michael Knight in the movie. This movie is being done by Universal who still owns the TV rights to the show.
Glen Larson the creator of the original show owns the movie rights an is planing a remake, for theaters, that would take the story back to the beginning and retell it. This is still in the planing stages and no details are available.

How can you do Knight rider without the hoff & his impossibly low buttoned chested shirts & plastic leather coat? His cameo will only save the movie!

I enjoyed lost in space.. i thought it had done well so was surprised there was no sequel.
Will be interested to see the new hulk film with edward norton...it cant suck as bad as the first film,
loved starsky & hutch...i mean the scene where they were in a bar with the fake moustaches was funny! I liked the fact that it didnt resemble the tv show as much & was just plain silly!
Didnt really like the mission impossible movies...way too much ott for me.
looking forward to the sex & the city movie!

i'll tell ya what, if "they" ever decide to do a movie remake of "i love lucy" or "the andy griffith show", i predict disaster. i dont think anyone could do them justice.

I wouldn't worry too much of that. I doubt either Andy or Lucie/CBS would allow it in the first place.

Car 54 Where Are You...was simply horrible. Everyone screamed in it. The Tv show had class, the movie didn't have an ounce of it.

Yesterday at work a co-worker told me she heard they are making a movie version of the tv show One Day At A Time. Same plot other than the movie according to her will be set in Dallas or Houston, not Indianapolis as the TV show was.

Well I guess this makes it the second time One Day hit the silver screen, if you want to count that porn flick One Way At A Time.

Grinreaper has a point...after movie makers ran out of movie remakes, they started in on tv.
Get Smart with Steve Carell ! Looks like its gonna be great ! (And "The Rock" is in it too !)
    Wild Wild West sucked !
The Fugitive Rocked (#2 was lame!)
Lost in Space was O.K. (Just Becasue I like Gary)
    Mission Impossible was Good

We Xena fans have been trying since the show went off to get them to make a movie before Lucy and Renee get too old. No go so far and I just can't see anyone else being Xena or Gabrielle, or Callisto.

I absolutely HATE the remakes ( movies and tv )...doesn't anyone have the ability to do original stuff ?? I rarely think the remake is better than the original and would rather see new stuff than rehashes

Can the studios be so stupid as to not jump all over that; or is it a case of actors\copyright holders with too many demands?

An incredibly popular series; with, well, titilating story lines; it was just fun (and oftentimes...arousing) to watch.

I would certainly wait my turn in line to buy those tickets; especially if they were to further develop the story wherein Gabby falls victim to the Vampires. That dance was even hotter than Salma's dance in "From Dusk Till Dawn", and Salma is pretty hard to ignore.

I liked the Beverly Hillbillies, Dennis The Menace, and Starsky & Hutch remakes (although, I never liked the original S&H show). The Brady Bunch and Addams Family flicks were good too.

I absolutely hated the Bewitched movie, I thought it would've been better as a straight-up remake, and without Will Ferrell. He's my least favorite "comic" actor, and he was a big part of ruining that movie for me. I also hated the Flintstones movie, Rosie O'Donnell is just so obnoxious... I never knew why they cast her as Betty.

It's the studios that own the copyrights. They won't budge. Lucy and Renee have said they would do the movie, no problem. However, since Kevin Smith ( Ares) died, he would be kind of hard to replace.

Hopefully the studios will get the staff out of their arse and let the show go on. The way they killed Xena...well lets put it this way...it went off the air in 2001 and there are still people wanting to scalp TPTB!

Check out the dance in the episode The Heart of Darkness...that will get yer knickers in a damp knot!

I didn't think that was a good choice at ALL. Betty was smaller & cuter than Wilma. It didn't make sense to put her in that role. For once I mean no offense.

I especially hate when they make childrens cartoons into movie with live people....The Flintstones, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch stole Christmas.....The only one of those I saw was The Flintstones and I was so creeped out by John Goodman playing Fred that I didn't even want to see the others. Come on....Mike Myers as the Cat in the Hat????? I like Mike Myers, but the Cat in the Hat he is not.

I read that they are going to be remaking Spaced but setting it in the US. First reaction was "WHAAAAAT" but I think I'll wait and see before I start moaning about it. After all, the US remake of The Office is pretty good.

Well I think they were successful for a variety of reasons that are probably hard to re-create. Plot, story, characters, actors, writing, freshness, relevance to the times etc etc.

21 Jump Street becoming a remake?

21 Jump Street ā?? Superbad star Jonah Hill has plans to resurrect the 1980s TV show that helped launch Johnny Depp into stardom. Hill wants to make a big-screen version of the show and, as you might have guessed, do it with a comic twist. For now, heā??s committed to executive produce and help write the script. He may end up starring in the movie as well. Actually, Hill is so committed to the idea that he told MTV Movies that he turned down a role in Transformers 2 to do it. Hill knows that, after the big success of just one movie, heā??s still virtually an unknown to audiences but wants to assure skeptics that, ā??If it doesnā??t turn out funny, I promise we will not make it.ā? Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) and Jump Street co-creator Stephen J. Cannell will produce the movie. No word if any of the original showā??s cast will be asked to participate.

I remember when they started to show what new tv shows in TV Guide. The first time I saw a picture of the '21 Jump Street' cast, I freaked.
I thought 'That has to be Johnny Depp, it has to be!"(it wasn't the best picture of him)
Of course, I also yelled "That's Johnny Depp!" when I saw 'Platoon'-people in the theater either told me to shut up or they said "who?"

They should have gotten the hint with craptastic favorites such as Dragnet, McHale's Navy (even though I love me some Bruce Campbell!), and let's not forget The Honeymooners!

P.S: What I wouldn't give for five minutes alone with Johnny Depp!

    1. Platoon (1986) .... Private Gator Lerner
He doesn't have a big part in the film and he dies in the film. Supposedly he has the nickname of his GF at the time on his helmet or her picture or something.(Sheryl Lynn Fenn)

    Sherilyn Fenn? She's gorgeous.

I am so sick of remakes. Most of them weren't great ideas or plots to begin with; it was the cast that make them awesome & that's why we loved them & remember them. So there's no point in trying to do it again. Instead how about making something this generation will love as much as Jump Street, Psycho, 90210, Miami Vice, ect?? Aaahh it just makes me sick.

Why? WTF is the point? Can't anyone come up with original ideas? I have a suspicion this is part of the whole 80's resurgance that seems to be happening, with music and clothes, etc. You can't recapture an era just by rewriting its TV shows and rehashing its music. Or by wearing side ponytails.

NO ONE can replace Johnny Depp! I am so sick of remakes and "reboots". Yeah, it worked with Batman Begins and Casino Royale, but enough already! TV shows work only because we watch them in 30 or 60 minute intervals. I love 21 Jump Street, but I don't want a movie with Jonah geek-boy Hill!

Yeah, both of them are in it! It looks as if they're the only original actors. I always wanted some of the vampires from the first movie to come back... ((dreams... *poof*)) I guess it's too late for that to happen.

You forgot the best one- 'reimagining'
That one is the most annoying to me- often used in defense of what is being done.
as in "It is not a remake, it is a re-imagining,for people today."

The Miami Vice movie sucked. The Hills Have Eyes sucked. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sucked. Lost Boys 2 will suck. When will Hollywood get a clue?

    Or.....

Does this mean we are too old to be relevant, lol? Are we not the target demographic any more? Maybe they are marketing these films to the generation after us, who does not remember the originals. It seems that by H-wood's standards, at 28 I am practically feeble. (And by the fashion industry's standards, I'm fat, too. Plus size, rather.) If this is what they're doing, then that's fucked. And they're stupid.

    How eloquent was that?!

Stop recycling our memories, damn it! It was my 80's and 90's, not some snot-nosed kids'! They can't have it! LOL
