Joan Howard Maurer (daughter of Moe Howard)

I've read online that the daughter of Three Stooges member Moe Howard -- Joan Howard Maurer -- has died (on 9/21/21 at the age of 94).
I can't verify this; I can't find any obituary - only this obscure reference: https://threestooges.net/cast/actor/88
Also, on findagrave.com she is listed not once, but twice (both times as Joan Howard Maurer) !

She was born on 4/2/27 to Moe Howard and his wife Helen. Moe died in May 1975 and Helen died six months later. Joan was the niece of Shemp and Jerome (aka Curly) Howard. She has a brother Paul who was born 7/8/35.

In 1947 she married comic book artist Norman Maurer. They remained married until his death in 1986. Once Columbia stopped production of short-feature films, Norman played an important part in continuing to keep the Stooges (Moe, Larry and Joe DeRita) in the public eye. He helped to make their feature-length films of the early 1960's. IMO these films are pitiful, but helped to keep the Stooges' legacy alive to a younger generation who were watching their classic short-feature comedies in syndication on TV, instead of on the big-screen. I usually refer to the Stooges in this period as "The two Stooges and Joe DeRita".

Joan and Norman had two sons: Jeffrey Scott (who apparently took his wife's last name to work professionally) and Michael Maurer.

Joan wrote (or co-wrote) The Three Stooges Scrapbook, Curly: The Illustrated History of the Superstooge and The Three Stooges: Book of Scripts.

This is an audio interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgC6ONyewsI
She was interviewed (too briefly IMO) on the Letterman show in 1983: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7PD8d-gc9I
She appeared as a contestant on To Tell The Truth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRwts9mdFmY
She also appeared in a Stooges' documentary called Hey Moe, Hey Dad!

For anyone inerested in reading about the legal battle over Stooges' rights to merchandising etc., here's a link to a fairly informative article. One of the lawyers was none other than Bela Lugosi Junior!

If any of you plan to be in SE Pennsylvania, look online to see when The Stoogeum has reopened! It's a can't-miss opportunity to see Stooges memorabilia.

Sorry to hear about her death, but the one photo with
Michael Jackson kind of creeps me out.

I started watching some of old videos of The Stooges on YouTube still timeless! About MJ , that was when he was obsessed about wanting to look like Diana Ross. I wonder what she thought! Lol.
Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. So whatever you do today, do it with kindness.

Seriously, I didn't look at MJ when I posted the photo. I just added it because it showed Joan! But I agree that he was trying to morph into Diana Ross. At least he didn't try to morph into Elizabeth Taylor (imagine the size of the breast implants he'd have to get).

Anyway, looking at MJ made me curious as to what's in his hands.
It's a 3D Stooges comic book illustrated by Moe's son-in-law (Joan's husband) Norman Maurer and his business partner.

As the years passed an attempt was made to move the Stooges (or their sons, apparently) to "go with the times", in this case the 1960s. Moe's on the left (with the Louise Brooks hairdo), Larry's on the right and Curly-Joe is above.

I so miss the 1960s, and 1970s comic books from my childhood.
