    RIP.
I enjoyed watching some of his "debunking" efforts.

Sad to hear about his death because he seemed like
    a good person.
Just like Harry Houdini he knew the after life was a
    big scam...among a lot more.

He sometimes talked about "homeopathic medicines", and during his presentation, he'd swallow an entire box - maybe 25-50 pills - of "sleep medication" just to show how completely useless it is. And he'd do cold psychic readings just like some of the famous psychics wherein he'd pick a random audience member and proceed to tell them amazing things about themselves or people in their lives that only a "psychic" could know.

He promoted reason and critical thought, and evidence-based decision making; and The James Randi Foundation still has the $1 million bounty that he offered to anyone anywhere who could demonstrate any type of psychic abilities under controlled circumstances. A few of the famous psychics claimed that they would take him up on his offer to win the award, but none ever did. Even truthful people who honestly believe that they have some psychic ability that they can use at will, find that it fails them when they try to use it under controlled circumstances.

Any fans of reason and evidence here should read a few issues of Skeptical Inquirer published by the Center for Inquiry. Randi wrote for them for a time. They often investigate claims of miracles or paranormal activities, not from the viewpoint of trying to prove them false, but from the viewpoint of getting to the factual explanation. There's a lot of interesting stuff from Bigfoot and UFO sightings to ghosts and miraculous events to scam lawsuits based upon faulty evidence and bogus claims.
