I won't say it's amusing, but almost.
He should have teamed up with that like-minded preacher in Baton Rouge.
That guy had the inside scoop - he said that God would protect them all from illness at his services.
I wonder how many people this guy and that one got exposed, and how many each of those people also exposed?
And how many might die for their stupidity?
Oh well, I suppose any resulting deaths would simply be the Will of God, thus making those people spreading the virus mere Implements of Divine Will.
In other religious news, there was this thunder storm.
With lightning...

When I saw the thread I thought it was that guy from Baton Rouge who had an Easter service for 1,500. He said the same, God will shield us from harm and sickness. We will see.
Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. So whatever you do today, do it with kindness.
God can shield us from things. There's no telling what would have already happened without Him.
What these people are saying is like saying "If I deliberately run out in front of a bus, He will shield me." He could. But He also gave us a brain and free will. If we choose to do something, it's on us, unless He has other plans.
Plus, these people do not understand that the church is not a building. People can gather virtually now days, and that's exactly what is going on in my hometown and other areas.
Now THAT might not be amusing but it sure would be appropriate.
I wouldn't quite agree obviously - I'd say that without God we would have exactly the same circumstances that we have now, because nothing would have changed.
But what are these guys trying to do - publicly prove their faith?
Is it a collection plate issue?
And I have to think that as a congregant, if you defy good sense and the public restrictions to attend a service because your pastor says to do it, and then he dies from the very disease he's thumbing his nose at, you've got to be about ready to crap your pants.
If I was ever going to say that God is trying to tell you something, that would be the time.

God helps those who help themselves. This idiot helped no one, including himself.
.
When I lived on the coast we had old west themed casinos, rock-n-roll themed casinos, pirate themed - you name it.
For a period of several months there was a huge, wooden boat moored near the Ocean Springs bridge - it was destined to become The Treasure Bay Casino. Nobody knew that at the time, I was telling people it would be The Ark of the Covenant Casino: "Gambling unto God with 5 to 1 odds". Somebody should do that - the bartenders and dealers could be dressed like the Pope, cocktail waitresses could bring you your drinks and hit you with a mist of Holy Water, I bet Catholics would leave the other casinos in droves.
Here in MS in Greenville, a church had a drive-in Easter service where people could park in the lot, remain in their cars and hear a sermon. The local cops showed up and issued $500 citations to the people there because they were violating a specific order by the Mayor prohibiting church services, even if they were drive-in services. The Department of Justice is not amused:

That's idiotic. Churches here aren't allowed to hold indoor services for their congregations right now, but the law doesn't hassle people listening to services in their cars in church parking lots. The services are broadcasted over AM radio signals. It's not like there's a concession stand, kids roaming around in their pjs, and everyone's using drive-in movie speakers.
Oregon has a limit on how many people can gather according to square footage and building purpose. Only five people are allowed in a church at a time, and they're all employees.
.
Stay home. You can worship there. Or you can worship anywhere. JMO. To the church in Kentucky that held services this past Sunday. Yes it is your right to worship. But you had a couple that drove to Kentucky from NEW JERSEY. And everyone going into church without gloves or masks. With children and the elderly. I just don't get it.

I won't argue with the wisdom of isolation, but I really can't say I'd discourage people from sitting in their cars and listening to a sermon at their church.
They're still isolated - no harm, no foul in my book.
That Mayor and those cops were just on a control trip IMO - they could have gone to Walmart or Home Depot or the liquor store to write those citations.
Oh wait - those are all essential businesses in MS, we're allowed to go to those places as long as it's really, really important; and liquor runs or weed killer runs always are.
That Mayor is acting like a dictator, and that's unheard of in America in 2015.
I've been thinking about this.
Not only are liquor runs are so essential that they're OK during the lock down, I think they need to relax the DUI laws for people driving to the liquor store.
Nothing crazy of course, just maybe instead of the .008 BAC limit, they could raise it to .15 or something sensible during an urgent journey like that at stressful times like these.

A very dumb person. (that is all)
Carolyn(1958-2009) always in my heart.
Right on.
The liquor stores here are run by the state and overseen by the OLCC. Think of them as a state version of the ATF that also oversees the lottery. The lottery joints are closed right now, but sales of lottery tickets are allowed at retail locations. The state run liquor stores are open and selling lottery tickets. Howzabout if someone buys a lottery ticket and booze at the liquor store and wins, that person is allowed to drive with a higher blood alcohol level for the day after holding church services in his or her home. A photo sent to the OLCC would be proof that the guidelines required by such a law were adhered to.
.
I guess then maybe I'd have to say that God really does help those who help themselves.
We just got a lottery here in MS after having casinos since the early 90's - but our casinos had to be over water on navigable waterways, that somehow makes them less sinful.
I read the other day that many local businesses and charities - food banks and homeless shelters - report that their revenues or donations are noticeably down since the lottery and scratch off games arrived.

I 100% agree with these statements. Due to health issues (and, unfortunately, issues relating to my former pastor who wouldn't stop bugging me about my choice of a career - playing secular music for a living instead of Gospel), I don't attend church at all anymore. I prefer to "have church" right here where I am nearly 100% of the time and it's worked for me.

Jim,
The lottery has had the same effect on my state since the '80s. The lottery games (casino machines) and tickets here are called "the poor people's tax" by many residents because low income people are the majority who play them in the hopes of hitting it big. We have a ratio of one Gambler's Anonymous meeting to every 100 people. I think that's a lot for a town of 20,000ish people. We also have a rehab facility that includes treatment for gambling addiction. Our homeless population ratio is also about 1 in every 100 people. I wanna tell them every day, "Please don't pick cigarette butts out of the ashtrays and garbage to smoke later. Not only is this a really dicey time to do that, but you don't know where they've been. (Yes, I'm a grandmother, so I can't help myself from thinking it.) I say nothing though because we can only change how we react to others. We can't change them. I do donate what I can to local charities though. That includes a local church with a food pantry.
Swinging back 'round to churches, that's how I feel, Tony. If a person wants to talk to God, he or she can do so anywhere at any time. I also think it's goofy for anyone, pastor or no, to tell you what kind of religious music you should play or enjoy. That's dissuading participation. Me thinks that pastor is putting his or her personal preference above your right to your own. Is your music hurting anyone? No. Are you trying to change other people's minds by playing it? No. Are you trying to steer others toward your choices instead of their own when you play? Highly unlikely. Are you happier now? Sounds like it to me. I'd say you made the best choice for you, and there's nothing wrong with that regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that he's not around to see what his stupidity has done to his family.
