The Secret Roosevelt Station Below the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel

I've heard the rumors for years and finally had time to look into them. Yep, President Roosevelt did use a formerly secret subway station to hide his polio from the public. He's also not the only one who used (uses) it. The article linked below discusses the station's history and links to an older article with several pics of the place. I love stuff like this when it's real (even though the Transit Authority refused to acknowledge it's existence for decades).

There are stills from a BBC expose' on the Business Insider website as well. The article on that site isn't as thorough, but the pics do offer some more interesting tidbits to see. That's found here:

Apparently, the station inspired the underground scenes in The Amazing Spiderman 2 as well. I remember those now after seeing the movie stills jogged my memory. They're in one of the articles above.

That is fascinating. It reminds me of the rumors circulating about tunnels beneath my home town.

Thank You for posting this sadly, years ago anybody
with a physical weakness was thought as not a "real'
    person.
Also I think Eleanor would of made a better President
    then her husband.

The BBC's story is online, but the video isn't working right now. It might be because it's from 2009. I did find a video tour of the place from the History Channel though:

It was hard to find any decent video taken inside FDR's train, so here are some idiots from Buzzfeed inside the train:

You're welcome. Apparently, it's hard to get video inside the train because going inside it is supposedly off-limits. That Buzzfeed video got a security dude fired.

Please remember when Geraldo Rivera looked into
Al Capone's vault? (back in the 1980s) it was empty.
I'm thinking the same with this.

I remember watching that, and GR being so smug prior to the opening. And his face after .... Lol. Found this interesting article about the train. https://untappedcities.com/2019/12/1...was-never-his/

Yeah. He made the biggest deal out of the clear empty bottle found outside the vault. That could've been tossed into the area by anyone, and it didn't look old, just dusty.

    Thanks for the link, Mansfield.

I had time to read the above article and have seen photographic and film evidence to the contrary. It comes from highly credible sources such as the New York Transit Authority, the BBC, the Roosevelt family, and the Smithsonian, so I'm not inclined to believe a blog post created to drive foot traffic to a museum. I'm also a born skeptic and spend the majority of my workdays teaching students how to find credible sources. I can't tell you how many times a day I tell students that Wikipedia, etc., are not credible sources. I might have some fun by replying to that article with how I built a D.B. Cooper museum behind Bigfoot's cave.
