Yup! I've been looking high and low and have never seen it on youtube or any of the other "gore" sites. I'll be happy to contribute what I can, if need be ($$). Might not be much, but hey, I'll do what I can. I feel kind of shifty, all of us so hell-bent on seeing the footage... wonder what her family would say? It definitely isn't on the internet or any gore sites. The tape was confiscated by the FBI. Somebody got a hold of it and appearently bootlegged it. We should know something within a few days.

If you guys need help tracking the infamous "Bizarre Deaths" then I'll certainly help too. Being that I work in newspapers, an old editor of mine named Richard "claimed" to have a copy of this tape. This was back in the 90's and he didn't go into much of the specific details. He did, however, say that the tape was very EXTREME and that there were suicides captured on camera. He also stated that this video was "much worse" than Faces of Death and Traces of Death. He also mentioned an electrical tower that collapsed at some Hippie Festival in Georgia back in the late 60's or early 70's that was captured on film — evidently lightening hit the tower and it came down and sliced some of the people in two.
This is also the same tape that was used as the FBI training video, so YOU Hags have successfully tied that one together...Congrats!
Now, if we can just get a copy of that VHS...Even without Christine it's sure to have some pretty EXTREME deaths...

That's an odd thing to think. I would like you to succeed and I would like to see this footage just as much as you. Looking at the facts though I just think we've got more chance of seeing O J and Nicole Simpson renew their wedding vows than we have of seeing this footage.
Regarding the existence of actual footage of Christine offing herself have a look at the facts that we can be sure of.
An estimate of between 100-500 people viewed that show. Out of those people how many had a VCR at the time? Out of those who may have had a VCR how many would have been recording at that time? Out of those who may have been recording how many would have kept the tape?
One quad tape was given to her family. What do you think they did with it? If they kept it will it have survived with playable quality?
Considering that contacting Greg Chubbuck to learn the truth behind the existence of the footage would be an extreme invasion of privacy there really is nowhere left to look.

Did anybody contact that chick that did the documentary about her? Lisa Marie mentioned her name somewhere on the thread. Was she ever contacted? I'm sure that anybody that did research for documentaries, or the movie may have seen this footage. I wonder if any of them borrowed the tape and copied it? Maybe, they sold it to the highest bidder, and a Japanese film maker bought it? There are A LOT of ways the footage could have been leaked. I haven't seen the movie that was loosely based on Christine. Does anybody know how factually correct the death scene is to the actual death?

It is a handful of people. Can you post links for us to all these people who claim to have seen it? Googling Christine Chubbuck doesn't lead to more than a handful of people claiming to have seen it.

See, that's what I wondered too. It almost seems like Ax doesn't want us to find it. I've thought about it a lot and wondered if Ax is close to the situation. We're not trying to see it to be disrespectful. I think we're all trying to figure out why she did it. IMO.....she wanted people to see that. People want to see it. Even after all these years she has remained on people's minds. I wish more people knew about her. I still think her 'blood and guts' speech had a very significant meaning to her, and I think there are a few of us that actually got it. In a small way....she sacrificed herself for her career. From what I've read she was extremely devoted to her job. In a small way I wonder if that was somewhat to blame for her reclusive personality. She probably worked a lot of hours, and maybe she just didn't have time to date and make friends. Any way it goes IMO she must have been a very intelligent woman, and a very complicated woman.
Does anybody else think it's strange that they gave a copy to her family? What...did they just ring the doorbell and say " Hey, here's a copy of Chris blowin' her head off. Maybe, your friends and family can play it at her funeral." I find that a bit bizarre.

Shit. From what I understand it would originally have to be VHS footage taped off your VCR (if you were lucky enough to have one in the 70's) which you used to randomly tape EVERYTHING you watched.
IMO, it was captured, yes. Then (like so many greats) it went through its life, watched, cued, viewed, and was destroyed. Possibly so that someone couldn't profit off it, but unfortunately so us Death Hags couldn't prospect on it.

I hope it doesn't come across as discouragement, I'm just being realistic! The footage is subject to an injunction, the video's not on the internet and there are thousands upon thousands of compilation gore and death videos that it could allegedly be sat on. Who's going to buy/hire/borrow every one to check? If the footage was transferred to another medium who did it? Who had access to the tape and the specialist equipment in the specific period of time before it was released to the family?
I'd like to see this as much as anyone but realistically many more people, people with profiteering incentives and with a lot of contacts and resources have tried to find the footage and come to the conclusion that it wasn't accessible and therefore never copied and has only been viewed by a handful of people. I believe that to be the case and all other believed facts should be treated as hearsay.
I'm truly not knocking anything anyone's doing and if someone finds it then fair play to them. But if they do find it what are they going to do with it? If it's on a VHS tape somewhere they can watch it them self but if they wanted to take it further and host it, share it or even pass it around they may be getting into a legal situation they'll find it hard to get out of unscathed. If they did find it I'd suggest they also kept it a distance from this website. There may not be direct legal ramifications but there could well be negative publicity if anything linked back here. I can give examples of both positive and negative results where certain websites have gone head to head with the FBI and the American authorities and in both cases it wasn't the forum users who were faced with defence responsibility.
All that said if you need a donation to buy some gore VHS for research give me a shout

You're right. Her life was her job, her job directly aided her in her public suicide which I think means that in her last few days, weeks or months alive her job and her suicide ironically both became her life.

what is being looked for is footage of Christine Chubbuck's suicide that she successfully performed in 1974 (I believe) live on air. She was a newscaster who shot herself. The family of Christine asked that it never be shown again but people have seen it so its obviously out there. It was seen on a VHS tape along with other deaths... like a 'Faces of Death' type of show. From what I understand though is that the family has some kind of court order so it won't be found in the local video store here.
Another member, TheMrs., said that it may be known as "Junk" there in Japan. Have you ever heard of it? Or do you know of any shows like it that still can be bought or obtained? Specifically with Christine Chubbucks suicide on it
