Richard Adams, 96: wrote WATERSHIP DOWN
For a chap whose novelist career didn't begin until he hit his 50s, Richard Adams enjoyed a long, respected, beloved one.
I reread WATERSHIP DOWN until the paperback fell apart, and cannot fully re-read THE PLAGUE DOGS to this day without weeping uncontrollably in places.
"My heart is with the Thousand, for my friend stopped running today." (Well, Christmas Eve.)
