Just saw this on the news. I remember him most from his short-lived talk show - too sanitized for our protection to last.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-was-69-955994 Growing Pains was another popular family sitcom, debuting in 1985 and running until 1992. Alan Thicke played Dr. Jason Seaver, but here is a picture of him from years before when he was best known as the host of Thicke of the Night.

OMG! That is AWFUL having to watch your father die. Poor kid.

As far as "Thicke Of The Night", the only memorable thing about that show was when Rick Nelson (a badly-aged 42-year-old Rick Nelson) appeared on that show in '82 along with "Weepy" The latter entertainer made jokes about Rick's songs all during the time Rick was on there.

He actually died in the hospital, my friend sent me a message last night just as the news broke and I was already in bed. Sad that his son is going to remember this each time he plays hockey.

I remember "The Thicke of the Night." This one was really a surprise.

It's just so weird... my last job (that I quit a couple months ago) took 45 minutes of driving, so of course I listened to the radio... Thicke was on there all the time doing commercials for IRS tax relief. Would never have believed he would be gone so suddenly. He had a very distinctive voice too.

Yes. I loved those ads. Made the IRS sound like the Mafia and Satan all in one. "They'll eat your dog! They'll sell your grandma! They'll burn down your yacht! Please- do not f$%ck with the IRS!"
