The problem is, with the number of these artists getting up in age, I imagine this is just the start of bad years.

One hell of a talent....Damn this year. Another Mad men and Englishmen gone. Here is a song he wrote about Rita Coolidge

To my Father. Even though you have crossed the plane, you will always be with me.
You were not just my Father, but my hero. My life has been a poor attempt to be like you
You taught me music, vocals, and how to fight. I can only hope I am half the man you are
When I close my eyes I can see you. And finally, Thank you Dad. for everything.

RIP Leon. Partied a lot to his music back in the day. Heaven has a hell of a band.

Saw him the last time when he opened for Hot Tuna in Jan. 2014. He was creaky and shuffling coming onstage with that flowing mosaic white beard, but once he sat down and started pounding the ivories and singing in that signature bluesy growl he was pure Leon. The crowd almost didn't let him go so the "headliners" could come on. Love your music, man.

R.I.P. Leon - Such an amazing musical life. We did a quite a few shows with him. He was a blast to be around, always had a great story, if you caught him at the right time. My favorite memory of Leon was of him tooling around town on his rascal scooter. He almost ran into a buddy of mine who was walking out of a store. My buddy said to me "I was almost run over by a guy with long white hair and a long white beard. I wasn't sure if it was Santa Claus or Leon Russell."
