James Last - Big Band Leader

James Last, big band leader, musician and composer has died.

I remember him and his band best as doing big band arrangements of pop songs and light classics in the 1970's.

A big band arrangement of "Rocking All Over The World" and stuff like that.

R.I.P. James.

Yes, yes, an admirer of great lyric songsmithing, the art of which has largely been lost with the removal of Shakespeare and the classics from much of our schools. Not that Last did not have his ear to the hoi polloi and condescended accordingly, of course, as all in the business do, save for the apparently immortal Tony Bennet, still as good as gold, as the late John DeLorean said as he was inspecting his delivery of cocaine.
