Robert Durst & Kathleen McCormack Durst

I can't find a thread for this but if it exists, my apologies, please merge.

This is case drives me nuts! I literally will search for anything and everything related to the crime hoping some new information is available. To fuel the frustration even more, I watched the movie All Good Things, based on the case, yesterday. It's on Netflix, check it out.

Heres a link to the crime library page. I'd encourage anyone interested to watch the movie, as even Robert Durst has said it was probably the most accurate account.

The guy is a total whack job.
A few more links of interest...

I know! It infuriates me he won't say where Kathleen is. Her family at least deserves to know. I wish they had had the chance to search the country home. You KNOW he was cleaning those four days before he reported her missing.

That's the one with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst, right? I watched it a few months back and thought it was really well done - it prompted me to want to learn more about the case as well.

He seriously creeps me out! I don't have HBO but I do have Amazon Prime, maybe I can catch the movie there when they put it on. Amazon has an HBO channel.

Durst's older brother makes a rare public statement in advance of the documentary:

Thanks for the Netflix title. Going to watch it now. The HBO documentary comes out on February 8th, I believe. Should be good.
Oops, I also wanted to add that I got a Kindle for Christmas and have lined up a few titles about the case to read on that, but want to watch the movie and documentary first.

Durst has been arrested in LA on a warrant issued in conjunction with a homicide investigation. He is being held without bond.

I've been watching the HBO miniseries Jinx about Durst. It's really good and I believe something they found making the documentary helped lead to this arrest. They uncovered 2 letters. One known to be written by Durst and the other written by the murderer. He spelled Beverly Hills as Beverley Hills... in both, and there are other similarities. I still have to watch the final episode to see if anything came of it.

Final episode tonight! I wonder if they nabbed him before the show aired intentionally. It'll be interesting to see what other evidence the LAPD may have if this goes to trial. Can't wait, eeeek!

Yeah. It's gonna be very interesting tonight. At the top of the hour on HBO2 they are showing every episode. So if someone wants to catch up before tonight now is the time. 3PM Central HBO2. He has the worst tell in history. When he lies he blinks and his face contorts. It's fucked up.

I can't help but feel losing his mom triggered all of this. Little boys need their mommas

I don't know what triggered killing his wife. Probably just the same old "if I can't have you no one can" motive. The ones after her were merely to keep them quiet. As that detective said in the very first episode and I'm paraphrasing but this is pretty close... "I don't think Robert Durst is blood thirsty. I don't think he kills for fun. But if you get between him and his freedom?... he'll kill ya"

Spot on. Yes, He seems to act when he feels backed into a corner. His money has given him a false sense of invincibility all these years and it is all about to come crashing down. Hopefully.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!! Did you just see that!!!? He admitted it. Straight up admitted killing all 3 of them!!! He went into the bathroom and didn't realize the mic was still on. He has a bad habit of talking to himself. He fucking admitted killing them all. I bet a million bucks they arrested him today so he wouldn't see the show. Once he realized he was caught for real he woulda taken off again.

I can't believe he may finally get what's coming to him. Need to catch "Jinx" somewhere. This case has been driving me nuts since I saw the Berman case on American Justice or Cold Case Files years ago.

Oh yeah I forgot to tell ya last night... When the director pulled out the letters of his known writing and the killers(The proof) Durst almost threw up. He like half burped half dry heaved. The thing that gets me the most is that Durst sought this director out so he could tell his story. It was HIS idea!!! He was free and clear for God's sake. Wow... what a pay off!! I've never seen anything close to this. Durst had to want to get caught on some level. The shoplifting of the sandwich when he had 200 bucks in his pocket and 30 grand in the trunk! Now this.

Micheal K of DListed posted the ending with Durst's bathroom chatter. OMG! He is really all over the place with his talking. Apparently, producers didn't discover Durst's confession till months later (it was filmed in 2013). The letters with "Beverley" were turned over to LE a long time ago.

Yeah. That pretty much says that the timing of the arrest was because of the show. I'm shocked he didn't flee the country right after that interview. He does the talking to himself thing in another episode too. His lawyer came up to him and told him his mic was live, and then Durst tried to go on to explain what he was saying.

Durst has been officially charged with the murder of Susan Berman. If found guilty, he is eligible for the death penalty.

The death penalty in California? Give me a break. It costs three times as much to find them guilty with the death penalty on the table and then they never use it. Its a false sense of judgment and the State should be ashamed to try to fool the public with this bullshit

So true. He would die on death row from natural causes due to his age. But yeah, in California it's usually a minimum of 20+ years till all appeals are used.

Its worse than that. I can't even remember the last time anyone was actually executed in California. Some of those people have been on death row longer than I've been alive.

It's the same in many states. It's dumb to have the death penalty if you aren't going to use it.

I was channel surfing and caught Nancy Grace showing the clip when Durst was confronted on the "Beverley" letters. Someone please explain to me why a documentary filmmaker was able to get the someone to match the writing? LE in L.A. had the cadaver letter since the beginning and they suspected he was the killer, so why didn't LE make the handwriting comparison? To me, that would have been one of the first things to do when you get a letter from a killer, you try to find who wrote it. Am I missing something here?

Makes me want to get out my old detective hat and start calling around for any cold cases that need to be solved, especially in L.A. Doesn't look like the detectives are seeing the obvious here.

That's because they had nothing to compare the Cadaver note to. One of the people interviewed for the film had the letter they compared the Cadaver note to. The cops never even knew it existed until the film uncovered it. Personally I think the Defense are going to tear the DA up on that issue. His lawyers can explain everything so I hope they have more on him than the film.

If that is the LAPD's excuse, then I pity them for solving anything in the future. He only wrote one letter in his life? I'm sure his family has tons of stuff that he wrote with his own hands that I know they would have gladly handed over if asked. Even if they never found another misspelled "Beverley", the rest of the alphabet could have been compared. The cadaver letter seemed pretty much spot on with his normal writing. He didn't seem to try to disguise the writing.

Why do I have the feeling that this nut is going to walk again.

This article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/mo...anted=all&_r=0 has a comment by Kathie Durst's brother. It doesn't really shed any light, but I know how all ya'all search for info. The comment was posted on 11-26-2010

it was Susan's son who had the letter amongst her personal effects.

They did, in fact, compare the two in addition to another document that was entirely unrelated to the case. If you saw the documentary, it seems that his family has been helping the cover up. Dad paid for a PI of the NYPD, as well as a former NY prosecuted to defend BD.

in any case, I don't think there's any evidence whatsoever to support the idea that his family would've gladly handed over a thing. Quite the contrary, actually.

He's being sued by Kathleen's family.

    https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/jinx-robe...004651839.html

"Kathleen McCormack Durst’s three sisters and 101-year-old mother, Ann McCormack, claim that the eccentric real estate mogul killed her and then hid the body, thus denying them the right to a proper funeral.

The lawsuit filed in Nassau County Supreme Court in New York on Monday contends that Durst violated the McCormack family’s right to sepulcher, a rarely used New York law granting family members the immediate right to possession of a body for burial."
