Regarding Ty Longley's actions--well, even though those Ty rumors are persistent, I'm more convinced of his real final minute by a combination of witness testimony and Providence Journal accounts.
We know Ty was best friends with Trip's road manager Bill Long. And Long says that Ty jumped off the stage to join him in escaping. When they felt the crush of folks heading to the front doors, they veered over to the atrium. Long says he tried to kick out a plexiglass window but failed.
"Ty was right there in front of my face. He wanted to save me...I saw him holding his guitar, saying, 'C'mon buddy, c'mon, let's go!' "
Long asked Ty for his guitar, to smash the window, but then someone on the outside shouted, "Anyone in there?," and the crowd rushed towards the voice and knocked Long out a lower portion of the atrium's north-south window, opposite the front stairs. In the chaos, Ty just never made it out. And we see a zombie-fied Long looking all lost on the Butler video.
