Not at all surprised at this since there are those out there who are sooooooooooooooooooooooo into amusement parks to the point where taking the ashes of a loved one onto a ride may not be so odd..to them anyway. Robb & Ellissa Alvey who run the theme park website Theme Park Review, they are so into roller coasters ( they think nothing of hopping on board a flight and fly from the states to say Sydney, London or Japan..just to ride a roller coaster !!! )..wouldn't surprise me if the Alveys have in their wills if one of them dies to take the ashes on board a roller coaster and let the ashes fly...and since the couple have very close ties to the theme park industry they won't get a no.

Ugh, I was thinking the same thing! You open your mouth to scream on a rollercoaster and end up inhaling someone's grandpa.

You have to move up to the large pic to read the article. I went to Sarasota County fair with my Mom and a friend of mine the next day. They were still investigating the scene when we got there. Needless to say, we didn't go on many rides that day.

Unless security has been improved recently unfortunately I can easily see someone getting hurt if not killed at Six Flags New Orleans. Yes I know the park is closed and damaged from Katrina but after looking at the so many of pics online from those who had managed to get into the place, actually I have am surprised somebody hasn't already been hurt/killed there. Really people walking along a track on a giant abandoned roller coaster is hardly safe.

The comments are saying it's fake. I don't see anybody on the ground reacting. If you look at the still shot for the video, you see the chains are straight out like something is still attached to them. If the chains snapped, they would be swinging all over the place.

When I was a little kid, for a summer, my Mom worked for a carnival, I was almost eight years old. All the workers were nothing but sweet to me. It was a highlight of my childhood. One thing I don't remember, but my Mom told me later on, is that the guys would set up rides for a show, and the boss would test the rides on the operators. So if an operator valued the life and limbs of themselves and their coworkers (they all rode on the rides) that stuff was maintained and correct!

When I was 15, my Mom took me to a county fair. She wanted to go shopping in one of the tents, and I went on the Zipper. I was gabbing with Mom, and not paying attention when it was my turn to get on, and she turned around and walked away. I got shoved in the car, door shut and I went up. I looked down to look for Mom walking, the car was rocking, and I noticed a neon green toothbrush stuck in where the car meets the frame, where a cotter pin should be! I screamed for Mom, she turned around, and saw it right away. She went right up to that operator and told him to get me off that ride. I actually kept her from decking him. She called it in to the state. That was messed up.

If you guys haven't checked out findadeath proper, do it now. There have been several updates. The Walt Disney update led to Debbie Stone for me, and her death on the "America Sings" ride. If I understand how it worked, the ride consisted of a static hub around which a ring containing the people would rotate. Doesn't that sound like a huge nut grinder? Or a coffee grinder? Wasn't it just a matter of time until someone got caught up in it? In short I think it had a serious design flaw. I suppose they weren't so concerned with safety in those days. And also, concerning deaths at Disney Theme parks, it seems most that I saw were dumb teenagers pulling stunts and breaking rules, the way teenagers do. So I don't think a 70-year-old grandma ever died there having her tea.

Talking about small towns and rural counties that depend on money from carnivals, fairs and amusement parks and if something happens and people get scared well that means less money for the community. My parents were telling me tonight about a small West Virginia county where back in the 70's an accident had taken place at the county fair on a Scrambler ride. Kid was killed and a lot of people saw it too. However as they were telling me since the county depended on money coming from the fair to pay for things such as a new school in their area everything was kept as a "secret" since the police, hospital, the fair people and the victim's family had kept it quiet which resulted in the incident NOT making it into the local newspaper as well as on the town's own radio station.

I can see it going down like that! I know the small town fairs in Illinois were like that. The Jaycees (US Junior Chamber) hosted many of them, so did Lions club (charity). Amazing the victim's family kept quiet about the whole ordeal! I can see the same going for the big theme parks too. Here in Florida, our economy relies big time on tourism and theme parks. Disney has around 60,000 people working for them. If our theme parks went under, we would be screwed.

Have you ever read Flying the Edge by George C. Wilson? It's an excellent account of the Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent.

One of the pilots he went up with was an Army chopper pilot whose task was to chart the autorotation curve for a particular whirlybird, i.e., find out just exactly how low and slow you can be and still make a successful emergency landing. Basically he spent his whole day falling out of the sky from various positions. Turns out that there is a very slim margin between rotating in and falling like the proverbial stone.

Of course, as the hobby pilot who built the house that I used to own (before I gave it to my ex-wife LOL) sadly discovered, too low and too slow (in his case, out of gas!) in a fixed wing aircraft also adds up to a big WHAM!

A man two days ago was at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio, He was on a ride called The Raptor (my favorite ride) this is a ride where your feet dangle below the tracks. This mans phone and wallet fell out of his pocket while he was on the ride. when the ride ended he decided to hop two fences with restricted area signs plastered all over it. The man found his phone and wallet and when he went to walk out of the area he was struck in the back of the head by the seat of one of the coaster trains. He was killed all because he couldnt wait for the park to close to get his items back. Material things can be replaced a life can not.

Yep that did happen at a six flags. It was a teen on a church group outing to Six Flags. Lost his hat went in to get it and was kicked in the head by a rider.. his head flew off and the girl shattered her leg really bad.

The guy at Cedar Point the other day though was not kicked thankfully. No riders were injured except for probably mentally.

Saturday, May 17, 1980 - A 13-year-old boy was killed during a ride on a water slide in Texas. He lost both of his legs during the accident and finally drowned.


How did the kid lose his legs is what I don't understand; does anybody have any more info on this?

what a dumbass! There's a similar story about someone dying while doing a similar retrieval of a wallet from a ride's rotation area at Legoland in Denmark; it happened in 2007. Worst part is that person was an employee and really should have known better. Unfortunately, I can't find a news article about it.

That happened at Schlitterbahn in Kansas City, KS. I'm in KCMO, and it's been all over our news here. The ride had, or used to have, an age limit of 14 AND you had to fill out paperwork before riding. (One of my besties used to work there.) It seemed Caleb was sitting in the front seat. As the smallest, he should have been in the middle to evenly distribute the weight. Although IMO, he shouldn't have been on it at all. Too young, too light.

The weight in each raft is supposed to be between 400- 500 pounds as I understand it. Caleb was riding with two adult woman, and he was described as "thin"... doesn't sound like much weight to me, especially considering that Verruckt is 17 stories high with an almost vertical drop. Add the fact that the the raft is traveling 65- 70 miles per hour, the harness is made of VELCRO, and it was a disaster waiting to happen. Take a look at THESE... LOTS of questions about safety from the beginning... no wonder the slide was redesigned and its opening delayed 3 times... SCARY:
