Not sure what kind of glue she was using, but super glue was used by the military to close wounds, that is what super glue was intended for. So perhaps she thought it would work. She had no reason to grab her step son there and in that manner.

I've used super glue for closing cuts many times. I even super glued my brother's head after a fight. Works well. Especially on clean cuts.

I should've elaborated. I glued a cut together after my brother was hit with a bottle. I didn't hit him. He had a 1 inch gash on his forehead. But I have accidentally glued my fingers together.
