Smart... I did the Valentines day dinner thing on the actual day one year and it was miserable. The wait, the services... all of it helped kill the mood. This year, I'll send flowers, pick up some food and we will have a nice quiet evening alone.

Yes, I was shocked too. This is why we send our kids to Private (Catholic) school anyway, so we don't have to put up with some of the bizarre stuff that goes on in public schools. My kids must wear uniforms (no underwear hanging out of gang banger attire), get detention if they don't do their homework among other things that make them more responsible kids like the public schools did years ago before they became too soft.

I am not sure, this is my speculation only, but Governor Schwartzenegger is close friends with Cardinal Mahony here in LA. In fact, the Governator and Maria Shriver made HUGE donations to the big new Cathedral here in LA, Our Lady of the Angels. Since the No Junk Food Law was a pet initiative for Schwartzenegger, my bet is that the Cardinal decided to enforce it here in the LA Archdiocese area. Just for the record, Mahony is a money grubbing politico.

The school my girlfriend works in actually went completely organic just this year but they still can't find money in their budgets for the proper learning tools... and to stay on topic, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE

I'm not seeing anyone right now, but I don't generally celebrate anyway...I hate flowers ( they just die, seems a waste ), I am diabetic , so I have to keep candy to a minimum and I get sick smelling perfume...kinda cuts down on the traditional gifs...lol. My ex-bf used to write me poems and that was wonderful, much more my style.
I have to say though, I think this holiday is kinda stupid..I'd rather have my man tell me he loves me in little ways all year and not make a grand show of it one day cuz some card company wanted to make more money....I know, I know, but that's just my opinion

Side note, I kinda think "St. Valentine's Day" sounds cooler than just Valentine's Day, don't ya think?

yup. it's not about the money. poetry is cool.

every traditional holiday has been snagged by retail
christmas, easter, st. patrick's, etc...
but l don't see anything wrong with having a day where you make sure you tell your loved ones that you love them.
