Dawn of the Dead was my favorite fo the George Romero Zombie films!
Monroeville mall is still open today!
That mall is only 1/2 hour from my house!
Holy crap, that was cool! Thanks, Danny. I liked both Dawn of the Dead movies. I'm big on apocalyptic flicks. Throw in some zombies and I'm good to go.
Man, you should get some pics, I am sure it looks nothing like it used to though!!!
I could watch Dawn of the dead over and over!! I love how they are holed up in the mall! I mean they are set, until the zombies drive them away! LOL
I one time saw a really cool webiste about the mall and the making of the film!
It might be this one but it won't load
www.mallofthedead.net
I've been there many times. It's about 45 minutes from my house. Doesn't look a damn thing like that now. It's fun to take visitors there, but the traffic is killer.
Thanks I liked the pics.
thanks for that Danny. DOTD is one of my all time favorite horror movies. so it's cool to see the old mall as it looks today. and it still looks the same on the inside. pretty freakin sweet.
LOVE THE MOVIE.....one of my all time favorite flicks....the second one creeped me out so much more, cuz these zombies COULD MOVE, unlike the first flick.....and the ending was just scandalous.....LOL
I'm fascinated with locations in which horror films were made or where somebody well-known died. Working behind the scenes of a horror film is on my list of things I have to do before I die.
That mall....now there's a place to play a game of hide and seek.
I used to work in a store near JC Penny. Whenever I looked down the way, all I could think of is the scene in the film where the zombies mill about JC Penny.
The best part in that movie is where they shoot the zombie
that looks like jay leno..lol Great shot!

Apparently the old Bethlehem Steel, which happens to be about 8-10 blocks from my house is a good site to film the sequel to the Transformers. They are bringing Optimus Prime to the Steel tomorrow and then shooting a chase scene on route 22! Here is an article about it!!
http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-...0,478254.story
oh god they're making another one? imo, one was enough, but each to their own. lol
Oh WOW- that is very exciting. I don't think it would matter if you are a fan or not. Getting a film being made nearby!!!!=)
Ohhhh see if you can take some snaps!!! Thanks KE, sounds like fun anyway. Oh my Optimus Prime! They are more than meets the eye!!!!
That is so cool! They filmed part of War of the Worlds near here, but I didn't get to see any of it.

My ex-husbands car was in Cocoon. The part where they are all in the car going to the bowling alley. You can see through the back window and my ex and I are in one of those cars following behind. It was a very cool experience. We even met Ron Howard and Wilfred Brimley. Extra cool. It was filmed in St Pete, Florida, only about 15 minutes from where I live.
My brothers are going to camp out there tonight, I guess there is a few spots where you can get a direct view of the section they are filming. The city of Bethlehem loves this stuff. We make it a huge deal! About 10 years ago, Luke Perry was filming a movie not far from my house. I don't know if it was ever released but we caught a glimpse of him and he was soooo cute...
That's awesome Ozzysmom...I would love to be in a movie even if it's just my car!
A month or so ago, they filmed a Johnny Depp movie in Oshkosh, WI- called Public Enemies- about John Dillenger.
Since I'm not a huge Johnny fan, I didn't go down until later. If I had known that Stephen Dorff was there, I would have had my tranquelizer gun and chains in the basement ready to go.
They completely decked our Main street Oshkosh for it in 1920's style. It was really cool.
Performing my signature monkey hump move since 10/16/2007...
RIP Dad- 11/14/1947 to 12/16/2013
I loved Transformers and I'm 55. Way cool.
Anyone live near a location shoot?
Northwest Ohio The Shawshank Redemption -- one of my all time favorite films was shot at the Marion Corrections facility and the courthouse and prison workshop scenes were filmed in Upper Sandusky a town that hasn't changed much is fifty years.
Man a bunch. I live in San Bernardino, about an hour from L.A. so lots of things get shot out here. They were filming The Land of the Lost last week out where my husband works and where we are moving to in Ridgecrest, CA/China Lake. Basically the Mojave/Indian Wells area.
They filmed part of the 1st Nightmare on Elm Street, and the end of Terminator II at the old Kaiser Steel Place in Fontana, CA
Parts of Bad Boys were filmed at the old Norton Air Force Base (Now San Bernardino Airport)
Parts of Letters from Iwo Jima, filmed in Barstow, CA
Movie "Inland Empire" filmed on parts of the new 210 in Rialto, CA .. we'd go watch from an offramp that was a block from my house.
I know there's more..i gotta go research.
Central Florida--they filmed Monster all over. From a window, right now I can see the street where they filmed Charlize looking for work on her bike, where the harassing cop picks her up, and the garage where the cop forces her to give him oral sex. I refer to that garage even now as the Charlize Theron blow-job garage. And they say there's nothing historic around here. Charlize won an Oscar!
That was then this is now with Emilio Estevez was filmed in my hometown of Saint Paul in the summer (movie came out in 1985 I believe). I was 15 or 16 and a girl I graduated high school with, her house was used as the house that Emilio lived in. They put her family in a hotel for three months.
Mitch Hedberg, the comedian had a small non talking part in the movie. We were all 15 or 16 at the time of filming. It was very exciting!
Emilio of course, came back to film The Mighty Ducks and sequel here.
Jingle all the Way with Shwartnnegger was filmed in Saint Paul also.
A Prarie Home Companion with all the stars was filmed in Saint Paul also.
Ice Castles was filmed in various parts of Minnesota.
Mall Rats was filmed in Minnesota.
Grumpy Old Men and it's sequel were filmed in Minnesota.
Purple Rain, of course with Prince was shot almost entirely in the city of Minneapolis.
North Country with Woody Harrelson and Charlize Theron was filmed up on the Iron Range in MN.
Feeling Minnesota with Keanu Reeves
Untamed Heart with Marisa Tomei
Drop Dead Fred
That is all I can think of right now.
Underdog was filmed in Providence RI
American Buffalo was filmed in Pawtucket RI
Meet Joe Black was filmed in Bristol and Newport RI I believe
Parts of There's something About Mary were filmed right here in Cumberland
Dan in Real Life was filmed partly in Jamestown RI
There was a Jim Carey one filmed in Westerly and Jamestown RI I believe. Me Myself and Irene.
Mermaids was filmed in Pawtucket
I live in the Seattle area and there is usually something or the other being filmed here. My husband was an extra in March in the movie Traveling that will star Jennifer Aniston.
Wanna see my grandkids?
I'd Climb the Highest Mountain was filmed in the North Georgia Mountain area and they use my grandmother and grandfather's house for the family who's kid drowned at the picnic.
Smokey and the Bandit was filmed around Buford and Cumming, especially the last stretch where they are getting to finally deliver the load.
Part of Six Pack was filming in downtown Buford and the house where the kids lived isn't too far from where I live.
Beverly Hills Cop. Gil Hill who played Eddie's boss was a detective for the DPD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Hill
Renaissance Man. Love this movie, Danny Devito is too funny!
Eight Mile with Eminem.
Funny story, a girl I work with has twins, a boy & a girl. One day she was talking with her friend about Eminem. Her son was about 10 & pops up with some comment about Eminem. She says to him "what do you know about Eminem, you don't know anything about him." Her son says "yes I do, I know he stays on 8 mile."
I know there's more, only those three come to mind
They've been filming right in front of my building twice in the last couple of weeks. They won't tell us what the movie is & they won't even let us go out the front door of the building while the crews are here.
I would love to know what movie this was but I got a steal on my 3 store maniquins. the owner of the maniquin store said she had leased them to a B-horror movie crew filming here in Tulsa. When they were done they just left them out front of her store. one was beheaded and all three has massive body and head trauma. It took me a month and tons of auto body putty but you cannot even tell, saved myself about $1000. I think it would be cool to see them star in a movie.
Debbie Does Dallas, New York.
I think there's more?
Right near my house we have had Working Girl, Beautiful Mind, War of the Worlds, Analysis This, Madonna' Papa Don't Preach video and School of Rock. And many Law and Order scene.
But we are almost never told until they finish.
Gee...where do I start?
Well, CSI Miami is filmed around here. Even filmed an episode in my tract. The one with Rebecca Gayheart and the housefire. I recognized the houses as soon as I saw the show. The film crew parked in the mall lot across the street.
Dexter was filmed all over here. Heck, I went past one of the Dexter locations while running errands today.
My in laws house was being considered for a commercial, but that didn't work out. There was a commercial filmed for the TLC station right across the street.
Hmmm...American Pie, Donnie Darko, Ferris Bueller, Red Dragon, etc. were filmed in the same neighborhood right down the street. My sis saw the film crews for Red Dragon. In fact the Ferris Bueller House and one of the Red Dragon one's were the same house. Parts of Iron Man were filmed at a park down the street. I saw a scene from Guess Who being filmed. The 70's horror flick Phantasm was filmed in the Long Beach Forest Lawn where I worked. There are too many to try and name.
Also there are ton of commercials filmed in the area. There was Verizon one filmed on the diagonal just up the street. The one where a family in mini van was having their own persona parade on the street. Mr. T's snicker's commercials are filmed in the area. And they just filmed a chick filet commercial at our skating rink.

Panda! Good to hear from you! Yeah I've been away, I have to catch up in the not smoking thread!!!
I have tons of info for you. PM me and let me know whether you'll be staying in the city itself, wine country, Monterey Bay/Carmel area ?? Or a little of each LOL ?? Then I'll PM you back with some specifics!
They used to do quite a few movies in the FW/dallas area. Just off my the top of my head, Logan's Run (let's see how old a lot of y'all are) was filmed in downtown FW as well as a mall in dallas and a fitness club in Arlington; JFK in dallas and they used a floor in one of the hospitals in FW; Office Space mostly in the Las Colinas area; quite a bit of Lonesome Dove. There are quite a few others, I just can't come up with them right now. I'll do some research.
I live in Columbia, SC and "Nailed" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessice Biel is being filmed here.
"Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon was also filmed here and we sometimes drive by one of the houses in the film, depending on where we go for lunch at work.
"The Strangers" was filmed in Florence about an hour from here.
"The Abyss" was filmed in Gaffney, about an hour the other way.
Parts of "The Big Chill" were filmed in Beaufort, which is in the lower part of the state.
Had the chance to be an extra in 2 movies. Dreamer had some filming done at Keeneland Racetrack in Lexington, KY.
Elizabethtown was about 20 minutes away in Versailles, KY.
Oops, forgot to say that I didn't do either one.
Not living in KY anymore!!
Reading that just made me giddy. My daughter's name is Madeleine, because after watching that movie for the first time way back in jr hi, I decided that if I ever had a girl, that would be her name, because it is such a beautiful name. Spelled the same as in the movie too. She even has a Vertigo poster in her bedroom.

I think you're right BLUE. Hell, I probably could make my own Hoffa movie, just take my camcorder & follow em around as they dig up the state still looking for him! Everytime some loco in prison tells them a story they go diggin again.......I mean why bother at this point?
