42 YO Martha Nicolas arrested for faking cancer to get cash

As a cancer survivor this story disgusts me. As someone who has lost a child to cancer it REALLY disgusts me.
If there is a Hell this woman should be burning in it as we speak.

So many of our friends and family have suffered and passed away from this horrible disease. We had a young woman here in Toronto last year who did the same thing through various fund raisers. It absolutely disgusts me that someone can actually do this.

We've had this happen here in Hamilton a number of times. It sounds harsh but maybe if these scammers got an an actual cancer scare, it might knock some sense into them.

No matter how ill this story makes me there was a story a few years ago about parents (and I use the term loosley) shaved their daughters head, told her she had cancer, gave her sleeping pills and told her when she woke up she just had her chemo for the day. They also made her see a counceler because they told her she was going to die.

Jersey, what punishment did the parents receive? I'm assuming the child was taken from them.

It's bad enough she stole all that money, but her poor children thought their mother was dying. Vile wench.

My brother-in-law's younger brother pulled this same scam several years ago. He was in the military and stationed out of state. He came in for a visit and told his parents and two brothers that he had cancer. He also stood up in church, crying about having cancer and being away from home in the military. Of course, everyone felt sorry for him. The congregation took up money for him and had a fund raiser for him. It was discovered he was lying when he got back on base and was laughing to some buddies about how gullible people were and all of the money he was given. One of the buddies got in touch with his parents and told them the truth. His parents repaid the money he had been given and tried to gloss everything over saying he was misdiagnosed and he wasn't as sick as they first thought. They kept him from getting in trouble by giving the money back to everyone. My brother-in-law told my family the truth about what actually happened. I would fully expect to be struck by lightning or hit by a bus if I pulled a stunt like that.

Ya know when I was diagnosed with cancer and going thru my treatments all my church gave me were 3 third class relic medals and a 3rd class relic prayer card.
For those of you not in the faith a 3rd class relic is a piece of cloth hole punch size that was placed over a first class relic like the saints body.

What a vile piece of shit. Having watched close relatives suffer and die from cancer, it is clear to me that this woman must have absolutely no soul.

She must not believe in karma or she would have never dreamed up such a scam. A person would have to be a sociopath to take money from people who donate to try to help someone who they think is in need. Being burned like that by a con artist would make the people less likely to donate to someone else who may truly be in need. She deserves every bit of bad luck that comes her way! I am posting a link to a guy who set up an ALS foundation in Kentucky and turned out to be a fraud. His own mother was also involved in it. They are really pieces of work.

Horrible. Horrible horrible. I just lost my job in part from missing work from having cancer (and gall stones and pancreatitis). I actually have a friend who set up a benefit fund thingy for me and got me a very generous donation. I am sure that other people are not willing to help because of people like this who fake these kind of things.

I was on a message board and a girl had told people she had cancer and people were sending her things. She actually went to meet someone when they got suspicious of her and she showed up with a bandana over her head covering her hair and the police arrested her for fraud. These people make me sick, as a current (lung) and former (ovarian) cancer patient and as a human being. People are disgusting.

Here is a link to that story. I had forgotten that she had a baby in the car and when she asked the police to get it out she ran!! Leaving her baby there. What a freaking psycho.

There's a Seinfeld episode about the subject called "The Scofflaw". George and Jerry have an old friend Gary Fogel (Jon Lovitz), Gary fakes cancer to get attention and get money for an expensive toupee. Jerry's pissed when George tells him but George want's Jerry to be quiet about it because George wants a favor from Gary. Karma catches up with Gary when it's revealed in anothe episode that Gary died. George asks Jerry "Cancer?" Jerry says no- "He got run over by a bus". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgbxaS2KeUY

Atomicbettie - you lost your job due to having cancer, which caused you to miss work. Isn't that illegal? I'm sorry that happened to you. What a soul less business you must have worked for.

This angers me so much. Knowing the pain that people go thru with cancer. How about getting a
job instead of lying to get money?!

I worked during my cancer but on a limited basis. I lost my job anyway because of corporate pigs who ran the company and sold us to even bigger corporate pigs by the name of Bostin Scientific who's motto as we were told by the then co president James Tobin is buy and burn. They buy the technology strip the co of all it's furniture and keep 1 person to move to Boston.
I also lost a job due to a disability. Turns out the co may have gone out of business.

I would be petrified to pull a stunt like this. As a fearful-of-God Christian, I would be about positive that one of my daughters or grandchildren would be stricken with cancer as MY punishment. That would be FAR worse a punishment than being ill myself.
