I bet it's just people chipping away for a memento ...
that autopsy photo looks oooooooooh sooo similar to anna nicoles autopsy photo, kinda kreepy really!
He was, and not just them...Sinatra was on his sh*t list also.
Monroe's funeral services were held three days after her death at Westwood Memorial Park - the second funeral held in the new chapel. DiMaggio took control of the funeral arrangements, and only 31 close friends and relatives were invited to the services More than 50 Los Angeles police officers were at the cemetery to keep the uninvited out of the cemetery, assisted by 40 security guards hired by 20th Century-Fox studios. Bleachers were set up outside the north wall of the cemetery to accommodate the press, and hundreds of fans stood quietly outside the cemetery gates. DiMaggio had invited Carl Sandburg to speak at the services, but the poet was ill and could not attend. Monroe's former acting coach, Lee Strasberg, delivered the eulogy. None of Marilyn's co-stars or friends from the entertainment industry were invited, even though many flew to Los Angles to attend the services.

Joe Directs Marilyn’s Funeral

After Monroe’s divorce to playwright Arthur Miller in 1961, Monroe seemed to become lost and depressed. She fell in with singer Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack. Joe had heard the rumors that Monroe also had affairs with both Robert and John F. Kennedy.
Yet, near the end of Monroe’s life, Joe and Marilyn were spending time together again. DiMaggio told his friends that the two were going to get remarried. Former DiMaggio teammate Jerry Coleman remembers seeing the two together in the last few years of Marilyn’s life. "I was doing shows in New York and I was walking down Park Avenue to get to my car. And I saw this couple coming down and Joe’s got his head up in the air and his arm around Marilyn. And they’re just day-dreaming along and never even saw me. And so, I didn’t bother to stop and say ‘hello.’ I thought he was happy as he was, leave him alone."
Any hopes were crushed on August 4, 1962, when DiMaggio received the news that Marilyn Monroe was dead. She died alone. Authorities at Monroe’s house didn’t know what to do or who to call, as Monroe had no family. So they called DiMaggio. DiMaggio stepped in and orchestrated his ex-wife’s funeral.
DiMaggio barred the public and almost all the Hollywood glitterati -- producers, directors and actors -- from the funeral. The studio executives tried to convince DiMaggio that they and their people should be at the funeral. DiMaggio gave his reply. "Tell them," said DiMaggio, "if it wasn't for them, she'd still be here."
According to the account of the funeral printed in the "New York Times," DiMaggio bent down to Monroe, saying "I love you. I love you."
For two decades, DiMaggio had flowers delivered to Marilyn’s grave twice a week. "I firmly believe," said Brad Dexter, "that all the years that [DiMaggio] made those visitations to her grave site and left flowers. . . he was still in love with her, but also [did it] out of a great sense of guilt. Because I think he helped contribute to her demise. I’m firmly convinced that if he had behaved differently, they would have had a good marriage. He destroyed it--and he felt that guilt."

I also read that before Marilyn was placed in her tomb, Joe asked that her casket be opened so he could see her one last time. The flowers were slid down and the top lifted up. A breeze blew a wisp of Marilyn's hair/wig causing some people in the crowd to jump back.

Cool!
This whole thread rocks! So interesting!
Danny, I live in Houston, and they have a museum here that is dedicated to funerals.....They have all kinds of things from Presidental and celebrity funerals.
I need to visit again, and I will get LOTS of pictures.

that work?
I was 9 years old when MM died and we were vacationing in Las Vegas when we heard the news. After returning home we went to the Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park, CA which had just opened. There was a black wreath placed at MM's figure. Even at that young age I knew she was someone special, plus we shared the same birthday June 1. I have gone to her crypt several times on "our" birthday. Very emotional!
Good grief, is there anyone, ANYONE in Hollywood Marilyn DIDN'T sleep with? The list of those who didn't, at this point, must be much shorter than the list of those she "did!"
Well, regardless of Joan's bitchiness I love her and always will. She was a consummate professional (if a drunk, but who in that business isn't or wasn't at some point?)....and her movies are always fun to watch. She showed up on time, hit her marks, always knew her lines and never EVER missed a day of work. She may have eaten men (and women evidently) for dinner, but she worked hard nevertheless, and that is yet another thing that was also legendary about her--a real, honest-to-God work ethic.
The same cannot be said of Marilyn...though I love her movies too she just was not, according to almost anyone she ever worked with, a professional in any sense of the word. From everything I've ever read, most people absolutely dreaded working with her, she drove Billy Wilder almost insane on the set of "Some Like It Hot" with her inability to show up on time, usually hours and hours late, keeping everyone waiting, and then not having a clue about her lines, slurring words, hung over, generally stuperous, and extremely uncooperative.
I'm sure we've all worked with people who are glorious to look at but trade on that by not working as hard as everyone else--and that gets very old very quickly.
I know it is off topic, but man that place rocks!
They have so much......Even Grace Kelly's Hearse and many more things.
Pamplets from tons of funerals, like John Wayne, John Candy, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Belushi, and many more.
Not to mention almost every preident that has ever died, they even have Kennedy's original eternal flame, and many of the "dignitary gifts" handed to heads of State.
One of the most unique gifts was a small lock of Lincoln's hair in a broach.
If you are ever in the Houston area I love the place, and my family and friends all think us death hags are sick....so I could use some support

I think that last statement is fairly accurate.

I really dont remember anything about her except that blowing dress photo
It is said the reason she is in a vault is because she was afraid of being buried. Hugh Hefner bought the one to the right of her and will be entombed right beside her. When Scott took the girls from "The Girls Next Door" on the tour, Holly wouldn't get out to see Marilyns final resting place because she knows that is where Hef will be someday.
Wow! Fabulous photo's and I have added the funeral history museum to my list of places to visit.
I found a really sexy picture of her and Clark Gable......its on my myspace if anyone wants to see it because I cant figure out how to post it here.

That Holly, such a deep gal, sooooo sensitive.
In Anthony Summer's biography of Monroe "Goddess" there is the photo that is supposedly Monroe after her autopsy. She has a sheet up to her neck, but her face is uncovered, and she is unrecognizable. Really, I have a hard time believing that it's her, although I suppose it is. The woman has straight, lank, whitish hair combed back from her face; it looks wet. Her face is bloated and saggy and covered with blotches; she looks like a woman in her mid-fifties at least. People say that Monroe was "beautiful" in her casket. Looking at that photo, I find that hard to believe. I wouldn't think that putting a wig and makeup on THAT corpse would make a lot of difference. Her face was a ruin.
Some said that Monroe was still "beautiful" before the autopsy. Darryl F. Gates, the former police chief of L.A. saw the death photos of Monroe still in her bed. This is what he had to say in this book "Chief: My Life in the LAPD":
"In those photos she looked like hell. God, she looked awful. And it wasn't just death that robbed her of her beauty. I thought of all the women in the world who have said how lucky she was to look like she did, have hair like that, have features like that. And what I was struck by, really, was the lack of good features. Thin hair, for one thing, and brittle. And so many other flaws that women worry about , like surgical scars and veins. But it was the face that upset me the most. Death has not altered it yet. Without makeup and theatrical lighting, Marilyn Monroe had blotchy skin, puffiness, and tiny veins on the bulb of her nose. She looked more like fifty than thirty-six. The ravages of drugs and alcohol had taken their toll".
As for Kennedys wanting to come to the funeral...Peter Lawford wanted to come and I suppose bring his wife with him. Pat Lawford was one of the Kennedy sisters. But God knows none of the other Kennedys would have come!
oh thanks kelbons!
Now, any of you gals, ok or guys too, I don't want to be discriminatory, but do any of you want to brag about youselves that ..............
(YOU) I GIVE GREAT NARRATIVE
I wonder if this is true? I mean we all have bad days...right?And what I was struck by, really, was the lack of good features. Thin hair, for one thing, and brittle. And so many other flaws that women worry about , like surgical scars and veins. But it was the face that upset me the most. Death has not altered it yet. And another thing.... this quote got to me...As a minister ( yeah, I know.....its weird thing to be a minister and a death hag) I have seen my fair share of fresh dead bodies.....You never know the condition they are going to be in when you walk into a room.Death has not altered it yet
I have had them die in my arms and look terrible in 5 minutes...and I have seen them after being dead all night and they look like they are sleeping.
I'm not sure you can say that Monroe was ugly without make-up...based on this account.

from what allan abbott told lupevelez and i, marilyn did indeed look well beyond her years. she was a long time drug addict and alcoholic, and it was taking it's toll. marilyn's hair had been falling out for years, from the bleaching and the poor state of health she was in. alcoholism sometimes makes the vessels in your face more prominant, and it began to show. marilyn relied heavily on makeup in her final years. after her death, the lividity, or liver mortus, had discolored her face. also, the pictures you see of her after death are also post autopsy, when the skin was even more saggy and unnatural looking. marilyn was not ugly without makeup, but she did look older. allan abbott assisted in making marilyn look young and glamorous. he said it did take some work, but in the end, she looked like the same marilyn that the world knew and loved.

That is true.........I have seen women with hardly no hair at all and what they had was thin, make their hair look thicker, by sort of "stacking" it up.
And people who abuse alcohol do look terrible.
it is sad but true. and marilyn had to rely on wigs alot before her death. she was buried wearing a wig, as well.
Thanks for clarifying Erin That is what I am here for anyway to learn I am sorry for the misinformation!
In order for her to look like "Marilyn Monroe" it took hours of preparation, at least in her later years. In some of the last pictures taken of her while she was still alive, she looks quite good. But no doubt makeup and lighting had something to do with it. She was always very photogenic. The pictures of the young Norma Jean show a pretty girl with curly reddish-brown hair and a generous nose and figure. "Marilyn Monroe" was quite different; the change is startling. "Marilyn Monroe" was mostly illusion. Monroe even said it herself. She said that she was a failure as a woman; that men expected bells to ring and whistles to whistle, but her anatomy was the same as any other woman's and she couldn't live up to it, this image she had of the great Sex Goddess of All Time. Who COULD live up to that?
Joe had more than trying to make her into a house wife to be worry for. He was there when they snapped the pic of her with the dress blowing up (she wore no underwear until the studio told he she had to) he left and went home and when she got there he slapped her around. He was very very possessive of her . His son made a statemtn once that he was so jealous that she got hit many times and that is the real reason she left His son loved her very much.
Also when you die your muscles let go. Your face will sag and when you lay long enough you get that blush red marks. I know this because my daughter died from kidney failure and we did not find her for 6 hours we all were at work. I was shocked by what had happened to her as she was only 38. She had taken meds prescribed for an illness and it attacked her kidneys and she had pain for a week and they never checked the kidneys for some ungodly reason. So the facial deforming was normal according the the Medical Examiner I spoke with. Death is not pretty.
I think all of you in here are really great people. Nice to have people that have the same intrests!!!!
No autopsy pictures look good...but I thought the second Marilyn picture that is more of a head on shot was not nearly as bad...it is linked in another thread somewhere on the board...
After her death, all of Monroe's personal possessions went to the Lee and Paula Strasberg. After Paula Strasberg died, Lee Strasberg remarried. After he died, all of Monroe's possessions went to Lee Strasberg's wife, a woman Marilyn never knew. She eventually auctioned off all of Marilyn's belongings. I heard that shortly before she died Monroe wanted to change her will to exclude the Strasbergs. It would have been the right thing to do; the Strasbergs used her and soaked her for a lot of money. They were parasites. They stroked her ego, but did little else for her. They told her she could be a "great actress of the stage"! Lee Strasberg even said that in her eulogy! Monroe a stage actress? A ludicrous idea, since she was so insecure and addled by drink and drugs that it took dozens of takes for her to get the line from Some Like It Hot "Where's that bourbon?" right. They gave her a lot of false hope.
I am a sick puppy....woof woof!!!
