This reminds me of when the movie Top Gun came out. I'm sure fighter pilots enjoyed an enhanced "social life" back then.
The now retired founder of our company was a Viet Nam era seal. He never talked about it and I was always impressed with him because he graduated from Wharton and had a killer business sense.
I talked him into putting a golf outing together for a group of wounded warriors at his country club in Salem, Ma. I knew he was a Navy vet and that was all. He treated 3 foursomes of vets to golf and hired a van to pick them up and deliver them and they never opened their wallet for drinks and dinner at the club. The club now invites wounded vets to play regularly as guests of the club.
I remarked to his wife I never expected such generosity even from a Navy vet. She just smiled and said what do you expect from a seal. I almost fell over. He finally came clean and shared a few details but he never spoke much about it.
It takes a special sort of person. I loved watching the medal of honor ceremony today as well. It was moving.

Very cool. It takes a different breed of cat to become a Navy Seal. Check out Navy Seal "Hell Week" for starters.

I am very glad that Osama is dead, but it makes me kinda jittery. He is far from the only one with his views and hatred of America. They will really be determined now. I am glad that evil bastard is gone though!

Same thing here. When I used to work at a trucking school, we had a very nice, quiet man who graduated and I helped with his job search. I was going over his application and paperwork because he had tons of job offers and noticed he was a retired navy seal. He was very modest about it, and never mentioned it again. He said he wanted to drive for the peace and quiet.

They are saying a land burial was not available because nobody wanted him.

If that is not true, someone will talk.

Also, they didn't want a shrine built for him.

I hear you--- it's all very well and good and of course I'm glad as anyone. But instead of the coordinated, centralized terrorist efforts that actually could have been thwarted years ago, the trouble comes from those like the guy who lived in a Conn. suburb with his young family and tried to set off the bomb in NYC last year.

I mean those frustrated "independent contractors" and self-starters who get off on Internet "terror porn" and require very little training or funds to set off a bomb or whatever.

Of course, that also might NOT happen, but look at all the extra security hassle the law-abiding citizens will go through, at least until the initial excitement fizzles out. We will still be embroiled in 2 1/2 wars. Al-Qaida still exists (under new management) and so does the Taliban and Hamas, etc.

Westerners are still paying extortionate prices for oil and oil products that are, unfortunately, still needed to run our stuff, without the extra efforts one would think should be put into finding adequate replacements (assuming there IS any.)

So it's a good thing but it doesn't really change anything--- maybe it's too many years after it MIGHT have?

Yeah, Linnie, you said exactly how I feel. I am as glad as anyone that the bastard is dead. Hell, he got off easy compared to burning alive, jumping from a high rise building, having a building collapse on you, having your throat slit with a box cutter, being beheaded, etc. Maybe now they can't pull off any large scale attacks, but it sure doesn't stop some nutball from strapping explosives to himself and set out for the mall. They can still do a lot of damage, just on a smaller scale. I would love to be wrong about that though!

I have never been glad that a fellow human being is dead-although I am hard pressed to call this animal a human being-but I am glad today. I hope you rot in hell for what you did to us in New York, in America and all over the world. I hope your eternity is as slow and painful as the deaths of those who died in terror in those planes and buildings. I hope you feel the pain forever that we feel in our hearts since that day. I hope you have to confront those you killed; the baby that my brother found dead and cut in half in that rubble; I hope you have to confront all of it, you evil bastard. My only regret is that a shot to the head was too quick for you. May you experience for all of eternity the pain you caused us. ROT IN HELL forever.

Both my father and brother were Navy Seals..daddy during Vietnam my bro during first gulf war...you dont' have to be ripped to be a Seal..just have balls of steal...have a cousin right now that's in Seal training...talk about some brutal training!

I am impressed that our forces built a duplicate compound to practice this raid..I am impressed that our president managed such a great poker face...now his words to Trump mean more than ever "there are more important pressing matters to contend with other than birth certificates" (paraphrashing) however I am still waiting for Trump to take credit somehow...yes it was the Seals that carried out this mission but without POTUS orders it wouldn't have happened...he's giving credit where credit is due...

now...I will make it publicly known AGAIN...that the one that pulled the trigger gets the money shot..the rest of them on the mission get "fluffed"...I'd bang them all...even the ugly ones!

I am not sure what my thoughts are on what happens to us when we die but I have heard the theory like your post more than once, that when you do you have to feel all the pain you caused people in your life. I hope whoever is down there draws it out as long as possible.

My point being is all we have is Obama's word that the bogeyman is now dead. In my book, that and $5 will buy you a gallon of gas.

Frankly I believe bin Laden died around 10 years ago. My reasons? I distinctly recall in the ensuing hours of the 9/11 murders, the media began informing us about Osama/Usama bin Laden...that he could have been responsible. We were given a thumbnail sketch of the chosen villain including the most recent videos of the man...a man who was clearly very ill, gaunt...thin...appearing to be much older than reported. The media also mentioned bin Laden suffered from a kidney disease which required dialysis, matching the appearance of bin Laden in those vids.

Then within a few months or so bin Laden makes a new vid and low and behold...he appears as if he's been healed! Well fleshed out now and looking to be healthy as a horse. Now wait a minute...if those vids of bin Laden aired after 9/11 showed a very sick man then later vids show a healthy man...that don't fit in a box.

Bottom line. Osama bin Laden died of some malady shortly before or after 9/11. Subsequent videos over the years since were that of an impostor. Why? Simply because there had to be one main diabolical mastermind to blame 9/11 on and justify the Patriot Act and invading Iraq and going back into Afghanistan and invading Libya etc etc. Besides, bin Laden's capture/killing could always be an ace up the sleeve to be used when deemed necessary. Bush nearly needed the OBL ace in 2004. Obama definitely needed it now and he got it.

At least we saw Saddam on his way to a neck tie party and his departure from it.
I'm totally agreeing with this. Ever since I saw the news this morning about the death of Bin Laden, something in my gut just doesn't feel right.

Altho I also have my own personal feelings about 9/11 - which I will keep to myself...

Bringing him to trial would just have been a three ringed circus that would have put major security issues we just don't need. This was a special situation, he was a mass murderer, this was absolutely the best possible outcome.

On another thread I would agree with you that some of our practices are bad, but today, I say this was completely justified. You can't get much more justified than this except if you're talking about the likes of Hitler.

News report that they are going to release his burial at sea video. I think this is more to prove to the Muslim world we gave a Muslim funeral as not to insight more anger there...But I still can't wait to crack open a bottle of wine and enjoy it

they need to just release EVERYTHING...A: to shut up the conspiracy theorists..which still won't stop them but it can hush them up some...and B: because WE DESERVE TO SEE ALL OF IT!

release it online with a warning and leave it up to us if we want to see it...I want to see his bloodied body..not his washed body wrapped in a shroud being dumped off the Carl Vinson...I want to see his brain matter and his dead face!..I want to see the video of him taking the head shot....

I need a good look at the Seals involved....so I know which one to slap my knee pads on for! lol

I feel the need to add my two cents, regarding the questions as to why we gave OBL the burial rites of Islam. We did that because we're better than him. We recognize the importance of religious rituals, and we know that it's possible to respect the beliefs of others. We did it not for OBL, but for the millions of peaceful Muslims. It makes me proud.

I agree, those conspiracy nuts will never stop...Have you seen some of the comments on youtube videos? They literally make me ill. The only thing I think that American media should never release is his "martyr" video. All it will do is glorify him and give his lunatic followers satisfaction, I never want to hear his voice again. Burn f* burn!!

I think we did it for political reasons, there certainly are peaceful Muslims and we didn't want to offend anyone. Did he deserve ANYTHING proper at all? Nope. Family friends of mine, two brothers, both died at Cantor Fitzgerald. Their mother got back one bone fragment from her oldest son and nothing from her youngest. Where was their proper burial? Their mother had a nervous breakdown when this happened. There was a story like this everyday for a year after this happened. I still can't watch the footage without crying. I agree we did the right thing, even if he didn't deserve it. If I had my way, he would've been strung up like Mussolini at the WTC site and there would have been a free for all...

So isnt it reasonable to say that if someone thinks Obama is lying about this, then they think Seal team six and the crew of the USS Carl Vinson are lying as well? I dont get the reasoning behind this conspiracy theory.

He engaged the SEALS in a fire fight, what should they have done? I've heard about the "kill order" but i've also heard that if he got on the ground and surrendered, they would have loved to take him in alive.

BTW, we are way, way above the terrorists and I do believe he was dealt the exact justice and fairness he deserved.

Car accidents are ACCIDENTS. These people were brutally MURDERED. Did we make mistake, absolutely, we always do, usually our foreign policy, IMO, is terrible, but this douche had it coming. I don't really care what issues he has with our foreign policy, he came here and murdered innocent civilians...That's inexcuseable not matter who does it and he deserved to die. Try to putyourself in the position of those forced to jump from a 110 story skyscraper to hasten their deaths because they were burning up...NO EXCUSE.

From what I heard on the news this morning, they told him to surrender, he refused, and the gun battle started. I wasn't there, so I don't know who started shooting first.
