    John Callahan

I didn't find this story but if it's already been posted, forgive the duplication. I saw great interview of John Callahan years ago. He died at age 59 on Saturday. I loved his sick sense of humor...

I will admit to having a somewhat warped sense of humor, but I never really found Callahan's work to be very funny. His cartoons appeared weekly in a local tabloid called Willamette Week.

He loved creating cartoons about disabled people like himself and the people who treated the disabled in a patronizing manner. My favorite is his sketch of a blind man with a tin cup wearing a sign that says "Please help me I'm blind and may have a mullet." Fucked up but funny.

Joaquin Phoenix did a great job of portraying him in a 2018 movie called "He Won't Get Far on Foot." That'd be hard to do because Callahan was a complicated guy yet straightforward at the same time.
