my oldest son who's 12 goes every year with his best friend (girlfriendish) and her mom to the chinese new year parties since he was 7. she's chinese and such a doll. when he was 7 he told me 'ma, jasmine is the most prettiest girl i ever saw'. those two have been two peas in a pod ever since. i tease him once in a while about getting married to her some day lol.![]()

San Francisco has the biggest Chinese populartion outside China. This weekend I plan on going to the Chinese New year parade down Market Street. Never been so I think I may take it in this year.
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone from the "Tiger"
New York prohibits unlicensed fire works in the city limits so marchers must play sound effects of firecrackers. That annoys me silly. This is a primary attribute of these people's culture and rituals. Let them have their firecrackers for the one day!
That is kind of ghetto! What a way to scare away evil spirts, by sound effects. LOL!![]()

Thanks Forever for sharing your pics!! They're nice!!! We didn't take part in any festivities this year, instead we celebrated quietly at home.

I will toast the New Year with a greasy plate of pot stickers.
2012 is the Year of the Dragon.
The Parade is this coming sunday in San Franciscos Union Square.
Ive mentioned a few times that my boss at work is first generation Chinese. He and his family takes this stuff seriously. Today he took the crew , me and 8 other guys to lunch in the very center of San Frans Chinatown. We go into this hole in the wall chinese resturant. We all sit down and just start bs-ing. My boss sets this proclin chinese man, on the table and turns a crank at the bottom of the decoration and it starts spinning and playing chinese music. At the end of whatever song it played, 8 hands come out of the back of the gizmo and in each hand are one of these envelopes.
He raises his cup of hot tea as we are eating and exclaims Gung-Ho-Fat-Choy. ( Happy New Year in Chinese )
I open the envelope and theres a 100 dollar bill inside. Its supposed to be good luck to give money to friends and family in the Chinese culture.

Monday marked the end of the dragon and brought in the year of the snake. Again like last year, my boss at work who is first generation chinese handed out the Ang Pow packet. Inside this was a 100 dollar bill. I plan on going to the Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco Saturday night along with sum 500,000 other people watching it weave its way through downtown and into Chinatown.
