thanks, queen.
l've always wondered what kind of evil people with too much time on their hands even bother making the viruses. l don't get what joy they can get out of it.

Finn, it used to be fun and ego. Now 99% of them are from overseas and they are making money off the viruses (virii?) They plant code on your pc and use it to generate and send spam. The advertisers of the spam PAY the evil people who wrote the virus for the use of your pc. Since they are in Russia/Europe/Asia go try and prosecute them.
I could be rich just staying home and merely wiping Windows PCs clean and reloading the operating system software but my spouse won't let me. I'm oppressed. Seriously, I have *never* visited a Windows friend without at list ONE piece of malware on their pc.

i dont open email that i dont know
You can get malware just from visiting a website. And some very well known legit websites have had malicious code put on them by hackers.
I run Norton Internet Security 2007 or later on every Windows PC I own or am responsible for maintaining.
Since Vista came out and proved it sucked, I only buy Macs for my household. I still keep two Windows machines (XP only) around until they die but I'd never pay money for a new one.
Added: Don't kid yourself. If you buy a Mac, lock that sucker down tight. Just a matter of time until they become malware targets.
Our Mac vs PC poll and discussion Mac or PC and Why?
I think it is more like prying open the door, stealing everything inside; then taking the wheels and the engine.
This crap has gotten serious.
Belle; would you please put a stop to all of those hackers and malicious code writers out there? And the spammers?
O.K?
Kthanks.

What type of system are you using, and who is your internet provider? Sounds like you may have a nasty virus.
Every now and then it is good to just re-format the hard disk and begin from scratch. Failing that I offer a few tips for free software:
1. Get a firewall like zonealarm.
2. Registry mechanic to clean your registry.
3. adaware to monitor for surrepticious ads.
These can be obtained from downloads.com
Personally I recommend getting Norton 360 which has a great variety of tools for cleaning up your system.
To get your PC running faster clean out you temporary files, your internet temporary files, recycle bin and cookies.
Once that is over defrag your hard disk so the files are contigious. I hope this helps you.

Overall I have spent about 150 bucks trying to get this thing back in working order...It is a fairly new cp and I am ready to hurl it off the roof...

Here's my less than expert opinion. Computers are good for 3-5 years. I think they are programmed to begin a slow death after three years. Then get a new one. I am on number 4 and needing a new one soon.
Get rid of Windows and get Linux - you never have to worry about viruses and hacking crap.
I found out that it is not the amount of water you give your PC it is the DEPTH of the water that makes the difference.
I have 5 pc's and 1 laptop. We all have McAfee virusscan (I was told by my company that a lot of the other stuff they offer isn't necessary, i.e. spam-blocker, etc. - most of the is provided by your ISP), occassionally my son's has a problem, but he's a 13 year old boy...just be careful what you download and open. Lots of ISP's offer free virus protection as well, look into it. We happen to use Comcast, I believe they offer something, but my company has an agreement with McAfee so we all get it free.

I have a question for all you Outlook people. I HATE this program, but because I have over 300 email contacts for work i have no choice. My question is I want to do a backup of all my email addresses, but don't want to delete them from outlook. Any ideas on how I do that?

Are you talking about email addresses in your Address Book? If so, all you need to do is open up your Address Book, and click on "Edit", then toggle down to "Select All". All your email addresses should then be highlighted. Then click on "Edit" again, then toggle down to "Copy". Then create a new folder wherever you want to save your address book to. When you open up the new folder, click "Edit" and toggle down to "Paste". It should copy all your email addresses to the new folder. Hope this helps!

Just curious, Miho, what's your beef with Outlook 2007? My employer is not recommending an upgrade at this time. My people are pretty content with 2003. Any big issues?
Did it work? Yeah, my first thought was the Import/Export thing, but I reread your post and noticed you still wanted to keep all your email addresses in Outlook. Export would've moved them out of Outlook. I really hope this worked for you. I needed to do this for the many computer migrations I've had to do over the years. (P.S. Thumbdrives work great for moving data from one computer to another)![]()

HUGE PROBLEMS. Don't upgrade to any Office 2007 products. 2007 is not compatible with any past word problems. Meaning that you have to save everything in a RTF format to even try to send it to others with old word problems. Even then the format is messed up 7 times out of 10.
My major problem with this outlook is just it offers everything, but what is most convienent. All I really want to do is have all my contacts into seperate groups to email them and access them. Is it simple? Not by a long shot. It is a multi step process to do it or even find them. Plus the contact search function is awful. So many times it tells me "Contact doesn't exist" when it is right there. Worst part. It organizes things how it feels like it. You want to find someone by last name you have to choose it because sometimes it puts people by first name.

Can I also mention it's unstable, still has some security risks and is just an all around resource hog? Other than that, it's Peachy Keen!
I guess I'm just one who's resistant to updated versions of computer programs. Most of the time new doesn't mean improved. That's why I love oldversion.com's motto: "because newer is not always better!"
I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to update to Windows XP Service Pack 3. I absolutely REFUSE to get Windows Vista! Dare I say that Windows 98 is still my favorite version? It never once BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death!) on me!

You are just like me. I fought my boyfriend in putting XP on my computer. I was kicking and screaming with the power tower, but to no avail *sigh* I have to admit that I got used to it, but I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE Vista. I refuse to use it and will forever hoard my XP disc. It takes 15 mins to load your brand new computer with it on it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I have Office 2007 Student/Home on my PC. It doesn't come with Outlook, but I have to say that I really do like Word 2007. You can set preferences to save files as Word 1997-2003 compatible, but you can still use all the new features of 2007. The only thing so far I hate is that there is no on/off toggle for Show Markup. It's in a drop-down menu and you have to select it. I have Office 2003 on my laptop, though (including Outlook), and I tend to use the laptop more anyway. I gotta get my Family Guy on while posting on FAD!

I am noticing that my computer browsers (both IE and Firefox) are preventing my computer from loading any ghoulish pictures. Some examples are the Nicole Nikki Catsouras pics and the crime scene photos of Darlie Routier's boys that she alledgedly murdered. I have tried changing some settings with the browsers, but that has not solved the problem. I'm hoping that one of you Death Hags has had this problem and can tell me how to fix it. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.![]()

How would your computer know they are oogy photos? Maybe they have viruses attached or something. I do remember warnings in the Nikki thread about the viruses.
