Topped off this morning at $3.99. Make for a depressing morning. I wonder what the price will jump to for Memorial Day weekend?

£1.20 (ish) per litre in the UK, which works out at around £5.24 per gallon which (hopefully) works out at $10.58 per gallon. (Although I'm not sure how many pints are in an American gallon, I'm sure I heard there were only 6 pints) I've no doubt you'll all correct me if I'm wrong.

People here are extremely pissed off this morning, because regular gas was going for more than $1.30/litre - which still seems extraordinarily cheap, compared to your situation.

It's pretty expensive though compared to the Americans. My math's not too good, but if I'm figuring this right, we're paying about $4.91/gallon of the cheapest stuff.

Its @ 395 right now.. However there is the little BP station out there between these two little cities thats selling fuel for 343 a gal. They are constantly busy.
Its not worth it to drive that far to get cheap fuel I would use it all getting back home. LOL

As of an hour ago it was $3.75.
It seems to change quite a bit though.

    Kroger

I don't know how many states have the Kroger chain, but here in Michigan they have some stores with gas pumps. When you use your Kroger Plus card it keeps track of your purchases. When you go to the gas pumps, you swipe your plus card & it gives you your rate per gallon based on how much you spend per month. We save between 40-60 cents per gallon.........AWESOME!

I get it at Costco, it's about 5 cents a gallon cheaper. I used to speed and weave in and out of traffic and really hotrod, that's what my car was built to do. But now I just set the cruise control at the speed limit. It's actually helping, I'm getting better mileage. Bastard oil companies! I heard a comedian joke a few weeks ago about where in the Old Testament does it say how high gas prices have to get before it's officially the end of times. We're getting close!

The prediction on the news today is that it will eventually go to $8 a gallon. The government is trying to figure out why the oil companies are making record profits. Duhhhh

I heard that on this evenings national news too.....it is shocking & appalling that the oil companies & the govt. are taking us all for a ride with each fill up. I predict that cities like this one, where mass transit has never been used to it's potential will continue to see greater numbers with every price hike.

The current best price in the Tampa area is $3.64.

Hahahaha, tff. I don't pay for gas here in my part of So Cali. Given that I no longer am a car owner. The last car I had was a Ford Taurus, all mine, free and clear. Gas at the time was $1.50 - $1.75, regular - premium, and diesel was still cheaper than gas. My repairs on my car were essentially eating into my rent money, so the choice was easy - I got rid of the car. I wasn't going to have my kids and I go homeless or move in with my folks just so I could keep my car. I don't miss the convenience THAT much. And I am not stupid either. Gave up the car, and I use City Transit buses. I pay 50 cents one way on that, all the while I am feeling bad for everyone else but laughing at the same time because of the demand, feeling bad because everyone else is at the mercy of these oil companies. I understand the need for a car if one is working and City Transit doesn't go there sort of thing. Hell, even if I still had a car, it would remain parked at my place, and I would still be taking City Transit.

Gas here now is $4.05 - $425 per gallon, regular - premium, and diesel is $4.50+ per gallon. And I'm in Beaumont, CA(lifornia) tyvm. Sheesh. You know Bush is lining his pockets big time with this, oil tycoon he is. Gotta have money coming in to finish paying for Jenna's wedding. LOL.

We jumped again, 6 cents overnight to $3.759/gal now. Blah....and we have a memorial service we MUST attend 500 miles away next month in Louisiana, I am scared of what it is going to be when we go. I priced flying but it is just too outrageous since we have seven people from here going, and we are all piling into two of our smallest, most economical vehicles for a nice, long, bitchy ride.....ugh!

The highest I've seen here in Maryland this week has been 3.84 for regular. I'm sure it will be way over $4.00 by the 4th of July.

I work in an industry that is dependent on the cost of fuel... I arrange the delivery of new trucks from the factory to the end consumer/seller... nobody is willing to pay for the fuel cost increase....and companies that also deliver trucks.. like mine.. are cutting the price... drivers could make more working at a convienence store.... I have my resume ready to go.. and am going to have to go back to repo work... I hate it.. and hate what I do.. but truckers can not afford the diesel .. ( a byproduct of making gasoline)... and are loosing their living very quickly...

When I have to go into town (or even to the post office), I always ask all my neighbors if they need anything from town before I go, because of the horrible gas prices. The cheapest gas here was $3.79 9/10 on monday. We have a long way to the nearest town (30 miles each way), and there really are not any practical buses out here.

The highest ive paid for gas has been $4.61 a gallon for gas. Since my 65 Mercury has a high compression motor it knocks and runs like crap on regular. So I buy Premium for it. Since California is 5x more expensive to live at then the rest of america we pay more here for everything. In my Ford Focus I run regular and last time I looked it was $4.17 a gallon. 65 cents of every gallon here goes to fuel taxes, both Fed and state.

Actually fuel is still relitively cheap. England, Japan and Germany pay the true outragious prices. America is one of the very few countries that still uses gallons as a measurement so we buy less then European lands. Theres more to a british liter then a US gallon.

All the countries that have slept through the industrial age are now waking up. So we are in competition for oil with them. The demand is the US is down believe it or not, people are riding bikes, taking subways and carpooling more and more. So these countries are fulling the void. Instead of filling up the family Explorer with gas at nearly 100 bucks to go 60 miles to grandmas house they arent going. Americas weak dollar isnt helping any either. This hits america at just at a particularly bad time , with all these people buying houses they cant afford. Theres whole streets here with for sale signs saying " Bank Owned " and " Foreclosure ". Property value has dropped so much that people cant use the equity in their house as an ATM machine to refinance anymore so they end up losing the house after not being able to make the balloon payment.

I think the only real reason we are upset about the daily increase in gas prices is that it goes up 10-15 cents per day. Today its 4.27, tommorow its 4.39. I dont even watch the prices anymore, I just walk up , slap down 100 bucks and hope I can get the tank full. To actually look turns my stomache knowing theres nothing I can do to change it.

They had a story about a gas station near here on the news last night... Apparently their gas pumps only go up to a certain price and if it goes over that amount they're going to have to either offer gas below cost or close their store.

I can't remember... I think it was like $3.79ish per gallon last time I bought gas.

    $3.74 as of Thursday afternoon.

There's talk about what's going to happen if gas gets to high for police departments to afford to keep their prowlers in operation. Now that's a spooky thought.

Ive pondered many repercussions of the increasingly unattainable cost of gas : Gasoline theft during the night, extreme inflation and ridiculous energy bills in summertime and winter months, rising food costs nearly pushing the price of basic staple foods to the absolute limit of affordabilty to the lower income brackets of America, people who cant afford to drive to work anymore because the cost of transportation is greater than the income provided by employment. Yes these are extreme cases but gas has gone up over 20 cents in two fucking days! Who knows what the fuck is going on? Are all these peak oil conspiracies true? Are gas riots imminent? People are already rioting over grain and rice in third world countries. Is collapse of civilized society looming in our near future? Sorry to be a pessimest but seriously what else is there to look forward too? I honestly think we are doomed.

Today we are at $3.779 here in West Tennessee, ugh. We have now decided NOT to go to Louisiana to the memorial service...partially due to the illness of my mother in law (she has really bad emphysema/COPD and can't take the humid hot weather), but primarily due to the gas prices.
Today my husband and I went 60 miles away car shopping in the nearest large city and normally the city is packed, today there was almost no one on the interstate and the city was oddly deserted looking. At 7:30pm we went looking to have dinner and the restaurants had no wait list...normal wait here is an hour for dinner.....the gas prices are killing everything it seems.

Not here. The freeways are constantly packed with makeup encrusted hags driving solo in a 4000 pound suburban as if the Earths resources were divinely intitled to them and the persons they are conversing with on the cell phone surgically grafted to their face was God and Jesus on threeway conference call telling her how fab she is for being a wasteful bitch. 6:30 pm on a Saturday night on the outskirts of the city and Im stuck in a fucking traffic jam. I guess we dont care that big oil is fucking our ass its so intricately woven into the fabric of our existance that we accept being screwed over like a Wisconson milk cow. The fucked prices havent slowed down shit at all!

And yea, I agree. Nothing has changed here. My co-worker lives about an hour north of the cities here and the hwy is jammed with idiots in RV's heading up north for the weekend.

Let's see here... a liter is slightly more than a quart, and there are 4 quarts in a gallon... (four liters is actually equal to 1.0556 US gallons).
    The current conversion for pound sterling to US dollars is £1.00 = $1.98 ... So, £1.35 = $2.67 $2.67 x 4 = $10.68 a gallon.

Also, It might be noted that GB (and Europe) are much better adapted to public transport than we are. Our public transport is only marginally effective in most large cities, and you can forget it totally in smaller towns and out in the country. If we were able to utilize public transport properly thru-out the US, the cost per gallon of gasoline would not be as critical as it is becoming here, where there is virtually no public transport in many places, and one has to travel very long distances to commute to work and to shop.

    My 2 cents.

  45. #245
    heaven can wait Guest
The way I worked it out was £1.35 x 4.52 (4.52 liters in a gallon) which gives us the price per gallon (£6.10) then multiplied by 2 (just rounding up the number) which gives us $12.20 (must have been slightly numericaly dyslexic for a few seconds)

Not being very famillair with public transport in USA I cant really comment on what you said, however, we have a bus service that runs very regularily from our village to the nearest large town. (Every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, miss it and its a long walk home)

There is a saying in Economics - Cetis Parabis - all things being equal. In other words, it doesn't matter what the units of measure are in other countries, it is ALL expensive, no matter the unit of measure. Our public transportation pales in comparison to Europe. I believe that most Americans can't handle the financial burdens that have been put out, and will get worse all across the board. We are in precarious times, if you ask me, and sooner or later we will see something far worse than the Depression - wonder when the Hoovervilles will start to pop up !! (they are actually already here, just called something else !)
