We use dead celebreties to sell everything...should we stop releasing records and movies once a star is dead? The person who owns FAD makes a living from this
activity...I see nothing wrong with it. I wish my family could make money from my legacy, image or persona after I'm dead...that would be comforting to know

I think Farley and Spade were friends and if he and the family were comfortable with it, I say it's fine. I rather liked it.

Good taste or bad, I liked it.
    If Farley's family ok'd it, then I don't think there's an issue.
Just another thing for people to bitch about...lol

And, on a personal note, I have never liked David Spade. There is just something about him that is creepy.

Death Hag confession: When I saw the commercial the first time, all I could think about was the death photos of Chris Farley posted here. That might be why I'm not so crazy about the commercial myself. I don't know why I thought about them when the commercial came on -- I can watch Chris's movies with no problem at all.

I find it a little off-putting for me personally, but I don't think it needs to be banned or scrapped or anything. If David Spade and Chris's family are ok with it, then it must be ok.

    Great discussion.

So do think its more "homage" to Farley or "cash thank you very much"?

    and....

What about Spade saying "I'm here with tons of fun..." The news folks are arguing that now.

I'd say a little bit of both.

Watching the World Series and I just saw this commercial two minutes ago. I thought it was pretty cool. And if Spade is comfortable with it, so be it.

There's a big difference between promoting the work that dead celebrities did, and using their image to sell satellite television or other corporate products.

Take Elvis for example, it's totally fine to use him to sell the music and movies he made, but it's not okay to put his face on a product that wasn't even around when he was alive. Personally, I don't like when the families of these dead celebrities use them to cash in, it's disgusting and greedy. My opinion, of course.

I was just talking about this on Chris Farley's thread!

I dont think Spade is doing it in memorandum of Farley, I think he's doing it because he's broke and wants to make money off of his dead friend.

I didnt like when they did the polterguiest spoof commercial either. It made me sad.

That and when David Spade comes back to his car at the gas station and the door falls off cause Chris Farley messed it up! He just looks at a dumbfounded Spade and asks "Whatcya do!?"

Tommy Boy is full of funny moments.

There's a Poltergeist one too? When I first saw it the immediate thought through my head was that he was still alive then it hit me that it wasn't possible.

I think all these are weird. Even the ones who haven't died. It's just weird them doing an advertisement over a movie scene. I don't know why.

I don't really have feelings for this ad one way or the other.

    I just wonder
    A) How they make these ads
    B) Why did CNN only quote from those who didn't like it?

Thank you! I found him terribly annoying, even though I thought he did amazing work. I would usually watch for a few moments before his enthusiasm overwhelmed me!

On another note, Direct-TV is also running an ad with a scene from Wayne's World 2 with Dana Carvey and Kim Basinger. So I guess they aren't focusing on dead celebrities. They showed this one damn near every commercial break during the world series tonight. I asked my dad about both and he liked them.

Notice how they're not in any scenes together really? And how all you see is Farley's back while Spade is talking? That's because the back is a stand-in. The rest is put together seamlessly using computers to integrate the live actors (in a meticulously recreated set) with the old movie footage.

Other times when you see some new actor in old footage, they just blue screen them in. That means they just have the actor act alone in front of a blue screen and the old footage is added in later to make it appear he or she is in the original.

As for what I think of the clip, not offended by it one bit. When we saw it the first time the other night, the second thought I had was that there were lots of better bits they could've used instead of the one they chose. The first was, oh hey, it's Chris Farley and the pipsqueak. Since that was my first thought, I'd have to say yeah, he's obviously in the commercial to try to bring in some bucks for everyone who'd make any off of him. I didn't hear or see any mention of Farley's footage being used gratis, Spade appearing for free, or DirecTV issuing a disclaimer, 'Please don't purchase DirecTV because of this ad. We just made it to honor Farley'. Of course people are in it for the money.

His brother penned that book. Written lovigly yet truthfully. The farleys are a tight-knit, catholic family. Chris went to church on Sundays while at SNL.

Work in the health field and have seen my share of gruesome so these were really interesting to study. Have a few things to point out. If Heidi the hooker took these photos then she didn't take them right after he passed out. He is already showing levidity up his side and his head has the purple/black appearance from lack of oxygen. He has been dead for some time. I feel that these photos may have been taken during the crime scene investigation. If not they really needed to charge that woman with something. She may not have murdered him but she certainly didn't report his death in which these photos prove. He possibly could have been revived if 911 was called when he collapsed. Also there is a pile of what looks like bandages in the left lower corner of one photo that looks as if covered with bodily fluids. Anyone else catch this or feel this way?

I recently got back into Farley after seeing Tommy Boy for the first time in many many years! I forgot how much he made me laugh, just his little mannerisms like his reaction to Spade quick changing in the airplane toilet.
His pics are awful and i feel really bad about his last words to that hooker. He sounded so lonely.

Snapped while driving around town today. No, it's not named after him. It just reminds me of him every time I sit at that light:

People often talk about the "tragic side of comedy." So many comics are hiding deep pain.

I quite agree with you. Yeh, I have a lot of sympathy for Chris Farley. Heâ??s not a person Iâ??d usually pick. But after watching the E True Hollywood story, I saw a man in a lot of pain, and who didnâ??t love himself. He was really religious. When he wasnâ??t hiring hookers, or snorting coke, he used to do a lot to help the elderly and those who were down and out.
I hope he's at last found the comfort in his religion, or what ever hewas looking for.

I couldn't have said it better myself! Maybe if he had kids though, It might have given him the strength to overcome his adictions. Just a thought. Yeh, I have a lot of sympathy for Chris Farley. you know somechick, im actually shocked that there isn't anything more on her. You would think people would of been stocking her for tons of pics and interviews. But after a little bit of the circus she kinda bowed out. She may have packed up and moved to another state and used a different name or something, for fear of farley fans cracking her little ass in two.

I can't believe she had the nerve to talk to the press (if yoou can call the Globe "press") and cash in on his final hours, period. I hate to think how much she might have gotten paid for that interview. She left him to die. That's just evil. She would do well to go in hiding.

I haven't done a side-by-side photo comparison, but doesn't the "last photo of Chris alive" show him in the same position as when he died? So sad. I still miss his comedy and vigor very much.

Enjoyed watching Chris during his SNL run and brief movie career. Everytime I see Tommy Boy I often find myself wondering what other movies he may have done.
