I'm curious about why you put so much stock in Marion Boyd. Yes, she believed that Homolka was abused. But so what? Why is her word to be taken as gospel? She never knew, or spoke with KH. For an A-G to make that pronouncement was irresponsible at best. It should have cost her her job. If it had, maybe Karla would still be behind bars today.
A couple of quick facts about Marion Boyd, for those who are unfamiliar with her: In 1990, Ontario elected its first (and only - we quickly learned what tremendous damage they can do) socialist government. These weren't just socialists though. This was the Loony Left in power. And what a complete fuck-up they made of the province. Here's one of the many ways they did it: As the head of the provincial justice system, a lawyer had ALWAYS been named Attorney General. Makes sense, right? Not to the Loony Lefties. They named Marion Boyd, a woman with exactly zero legal expertise, Attorney General. (They also named, to head correctional services, a woman who'd shot a man dead with a shotgun, but that's another story) Boyd's experience? She had a BA and had been the secretary to a university president. Anyway, the decision to name her A-G was roundly criticized - and she soon justified that criticism. It was Marion Boyd who personally approved the plea deal that let Karla Homolka more or less off the hook.
By the time Boyd and her cronies were done, the province was more than $10-billion in debt. They were unceremoniously tossed from office at the first opportunity, and ever since have never returned more than a handful of MPPs, only barely clinging to Offical Party status. They were massive fuck-ups and their incompetence was never shown more clearly than in their mishandling of the Homolka case.
Theotherlondon, as someone who's from Ontario (and from Marion Boyd's hometown - coincidence?) I have to assume you know all this. Which makes me wonder - in all seriousness and with all due respect - whether your post was designed solely to be provocative; to rile up people who are already passionate enough about KH and her sentence. It is something for all Canadians to be ashamed of. To this day, that media ban bothers me. It would simply not have been allowed to happen in the US. It embarasses me that most Americans know far more about the grim details of this case than I do - simply because they had access to testimony and evidence that the Canadian media did not. Becuase of it, most of us just did not realize the magnitude of the horrors that KH and PB inflicted on those poor girls.

Anyway, we always visited his family by going through Sarnia and up the 401 or 402? I was reading a Buffalo paper one time when the case was going on, and it got confiscated at the crossing. We could have had 40 kilos of coke and AK47s in the truck, but they only wanted my paper.

Ha! - Mrs. Watson, I know Buffalo and Lockport very well (cross border shopping and all). And that would've been the ol' 401 you'd be driving aka the MacDonald-Cartier Freeway - goes all the way to Montreal.
It doesn't surprise me at all that the Canadian border guards would've been confiscating things like papers - but it does to this day upset me. I suppose Canadians just aren't sophisticated enough to handle the details of the case, in the yes of our own governments. Personal freedoms can mean very little up here.

Bad enough she didn't do hard time and ended up at the sorority prison in Kitchener Waterloo- (When they built it- I just KNEW it was going she was gonna show up there!!! I'm not a mother, but I don't know how Karla's mother and father visit with her. She participated in the rape of her sister, she organized it as a gift for paul. Tammy's death, I believe was accidental, but they lagged in getting aid to tammy after she stopped breathing. Either way how can you overlook that? I think my mom could get over me killing someone, but if I was involved in my own sister's demise and caused others to lose their lives, my mom would cut me off! There are some things you just cant overlook, or get over.
