No, he will never be forgotten, but I have to admit that I'm not the biggest JD fan. There just wasn't enough to make me want to know more about him.

I'm not a big fan either. I saw "Rebel W/O A Cause" once and just didn't "get" the appeal of it. I thought it was sort of boring. Sorry...

James Dean had a certain something that made you want to know more... He was good in Rebel & east of eden but was weaker in Giant (well the old man scene...)
Liz taylor knows some secrets of him....they apparently chatted alot in that film ... just wish she would spill the beans!

james dean is fascinating because at the time he defined his generation on screen like nobody had before. everyone else seemed to be a caricature of a "new generation".
besides, he was an interesting person in "real life". just read any book about him and you'll be enthralled. at least, i was. i love the man.

I never saw actual death photos of him. BUT I did have photos froma book that he posed for. I had a picture with him posed with his head in a noose. I had a picture of him sitting in a coffin and maybe another one. He loved having his picture taken and from what I read,had a bit of a macabre streak.

The book, "The Death of James Dean" has that photo - of him hanging from the noose. I just read the book, and it's a step by step description of the accident and death and includes descriptions of what he looked like in the morgue.

Eh, it was alright, but when it went into the later chapters of the "fanatics" who were competing with each other as to who could get more info on James Dean - it lost me there.
Speaking of photos of James Dean...years ago I was doing some research for a college paper which included various actors/entertainers from my home state. During the process, a very strange photo of James Dean turned up. It was a group photo with several other people, very muddy and faded so it was hard to tell if it had been altered. Anyway, not to go into too much detail, what it boiled down to was a fairly pornographic shot which apparently had been circulating for some time since his death. Since I did my research in the college and state libraries I can't even recall now where I found this and I have never seen it since. Has anyone heard or seen the photo I'm talking about?
Yes,I think i'd seen the photo that you are speaking of.
Looking back over the years, having that odd photo turn up the way it did - when I had no idea it existed and I was simply looking for basic bio stuff on Dean - was weird in more ways than one. It was like this big secret someone was trying to spread around and suppress at the same time. Anyway, I never saw it again, and, you would think, in this day of the Internet and its tremendous growth and wealth of info, that people would be stumbling over it by now whether they wanted to or not.
I loved JD...I didn't get Rebel at first either, but I watched it again and got the underlying story better. He was a very complex man.
i just realised it, call me stupid, but all 3 stars of this movie died under "tragic" circumstances. kinda spooky. is there any other movies o tv shows where this occured?? i know they died years apart, but its still odd. also, has anyone ever heard the legends surrounding the james dean death car?? alot of people were hurt or killed by the car or parts off the car or something.

James Dean's car was carted off for a bit to a like general store or garage or something and later it burned down.
The car was also parted out. Two men who also raced recieved parts and put them in thier cars. One died during an accident, the other seriously injured in another.
A teenager or something bought two of his tires and they blew while he was driving.
The car was carted around for exibits and show and tells and accidents followed it. The car rolling off displays, falling off flatbed trucks. It disappeared on one such trip. No one knows where it is.
And then there is the public service announcement Dean made before he died on the set of Giant. Freaky dude.

Sure. Someone else on the board mentioned [SIZE=4]THE CONQUERER[/SIZE] and how so many involved died of cancer since much of the filming was done in the Utah desert where the goverment had done bomb testing in the 40s.

Personally, I never liked REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. JAMES DEAN overacted to the inth degree ("You're tearing me apart...........") Oh, the teen-aged angst. I think thatDEAN once said the same thing to SAL MINEO off the set.
I always loved East of Eden. It was very interesting to watch a conservative Abra really developing the hots for Cal. She really wanted that boy, but felt she had to remain true to his brother......until the end. I always wondered what would have continued to happen to Cal and Abra later on.

I love James Dean! Going on 7 years now. he had a wicked sense of humor, it was dark. Examples are those photos of him posing with the noose on the set of Giant and the coffin series he did. He dated Liz Sheridan, her book 'Dizzy and jimmy' is a really good read because it shows him in a different light other than the usual 'rebel'.
i would like to see the photo you mentioned BeeCee, because I don't recall seeing anything like that. I started a yahoo group about 6 years ago and I use it to store all the photos I have of him, some are with the local people when he was filming Giant. I personally loved his role in that film, and the bit where he's introduced as 'A legend in his own time' always gives me chills because that's the last scene he ever filmed. And it wasn't even Dean's voice, it was Nick Adams. Irony

I've enjoyed Giant the best. It was surreal to me to see Dean as an old man and to know he only had days to live after shooting the movie, yet Rock Hudson would have 30 years.

I like him and his movies. He seemed like a complex person who had a lot of hurt in his life, beginning with the death of his mother. He certainly seemed able to channel his personal pain into the roles he played. Love his quote: "Dream as if you'll live forever; live as if you'll die today."
has anyone heard of dean hauntings? i know that his car is supposed to haunt the stretch of road where he was killed, but anything else?
sal mineo once told a friend that he and some other guy were walking down the street and he caught a brief image of dean walking behind them, but when he turned to tell the other guy, the image was gone. he also said that he contacted him thru mediums or something.
i also heard that some young girls playing with a ouija board were contacted by him right after he died, before the news came out. i think hans holzer reported this in one of his books.
i like Jimmy, im not a huge fan but i think he was a nice actor, i especially enjoyed his work in East of Eden. But definetely, he wasnt as talented as Montgomery Clift or Brando.
I have been huge James Dean fan since I was 13 think he was the reason I became a deathhag today! My fascination in him triggered a fascination in the bizarre, death and all James Dean was in! He as a total Deathhag!

Hemmingway, bloody bastard but of his time I guess, Death in the Afternoon was James Deans favorite book! Interesting great read! Dennis Hopper he was always(admitted) in awe of Dean, I watch him always in films! Pier Angeli, lovely photos Dean took, she committed suicide at 40 in 70's she rejected Dean to Marry Vic Dameone (sic) She was never happy but hurt Dean, He did date gorgous 007 actress ,If I go to my library I go there intensely and you wont really thank me unless its something you really wanna know!
The best film he made was East or Eden, Rebel is embarrassing and difficult, raw even but thats interesting, I dont thing East of Eden dates so obviously, its time context is obscure, he is young and playing himself well, In a timeless well less fashionable driven ideal! He is not quite so contrived in this film, its more emotive acting, its really bloody good acting and he was dead when it was released! I just find this film the script, the darkness, the cain and able stuff is deep and he was influenced and in awe of Brando and Clift but he had another emotive dimension to add! Theres a great photo of him and cast with Brando on the set and you see him sculking in the photo with Brando his hero! he was a different type of actor!

I went to Fairmount to visit his grave, but it was some years ago. Pretty cool too, went at about 10 at night.
It can be difficult to get what all the fuss was about, but the movies are dated obviously. Rebel, in particular, is dated, but the one theme that will always continue is teenage rebellion.
As far as his continuing appeal? Physically beautiful, only three movies (leaves 'em wanting more) an early death, and a more innocent time.

Guys just watch East of Eden, I was lucky at 14 It was his first film I saw! The best, he's in it for the most also! I thinks its James Deans best film.Its the film that dates least likely so thats why its so good! I agree he dated quickly in the other films but East of Eden is not so easy to date! Steinbeck!

He was! He loved to read to his friends dead related stories . According to Vampira the first thing he did when she visited him in his apartment for the first time was reading to her a story about a boy that hanged himself!
And now...check this pic out...isnt it pretty fascinating to think that he would be lying in one of those in a couple of months after the pic was taken...for eternity!!??!

Thats true.Pier also ended her relationship with Kirk Douglas because her mother did not approve it, either.
Ive also read that it was rumoured that Pier's son Perry was James Dean's and not Vic's. i dont believe that, though.
