So many great choices here, some I actually got to see. For me one would have to be Roy Orbison but the number one I would love to see, one I actually had a chance to see and stupidly passed on the opportunity was the man in my avatar, the great Hoyt Axton. I went through all the threads here on muscians and not one on old Hoyt! I think I'm gonna start one.

    The closest...

thing I saw to Hendrix was Phil Lynott.

From afar he reminded me of Hendrix. As I was pretty high at a lot of these shows, it was easy to put myself in the mind of, "Wow! That dude looks like Hendrix, man." If only he was left handed and didn't play the bass. lol!

I would have liked seeing the Who when Keith Moon was still alive, he was a great drummer. I saw them in 1979 at the silverdome when Kenny Jones was drumming for them and it was the greatest concert I ever saw. Still I would have loved to have seen Moonie once while he was still kicking.

Freddie Mercury (that queen had some voice)
    Janis Joplin
    John Lennon
    George Harrison
    Edith Piaf

I saw the WHO on one their several "farewell" tours. It was in the late 80's. Keith was gone, of course but John Entwistle was there.
It was a great show!! The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn (RIP) and top billing went to the WHO.

It was at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

I have to agree that I wish to have seen Queen, as I am a huge fan as is my daughter. RIP Freddie....

Also, Joy Division. I'm a huge fan of Ian Curtis. RIP Ian...

I did see him and the entire RAMONES in 1979 at chequers in sydney and the band were so fantastic, funny and wild!

I would never have imagined they would all die just like that.(Meaning they all seemed to die in fast succession for a band)

Only the drummer (who) remained and I met and saw his Ramone Tribute show at the Gaelic Club in Sydney in 2002/3 it was him with a girly fast punk tribute band and videos of the Ramones, most tragic!

I was very young, underage in fact but they had big heroin habits according to a guy yrs later I met(At the Gaelic club tribute show) who was on the door then! I said to him I couldnt get the energy if they were all so smacked out! He said they were fucked before they went on stage and then they came good! Sydney had a great rep for good smack at that time, Debbie Harry is noted for one as saying so! It was pure and the Ramones were young and healthy then no doubt! But they were pure magic to see and I treasure my experience of them!

A good friend of mine met Dee Dee Ramone a week before he died. He told me Dee Dee was a "mess" and seemed sorta depressed. My friend walked up to Dee Dee (at an L.A. bar) and told him how great he was and that he was one of his biggest fans...Dee Dee just sat there in a daze...barely cracked a smile.

I actually teach someone who met Ian Curtis in the BBC in London before he died and said he was quiet and calm and not very much of anything! He said he was there for a recording and Ian was just another quiet guy who he prepared for the show and was very ordinary!
