you just cannot get any more beautiful or classy at the same time ..she was beyond amazing and I love her.....My grandpa who worked for warner brothers said the only time the entire studio shut down was when she died.......what a classy lady.
She was so beautiful! I think her eyes, those big, beautiful blues, can't be captured in black and white so easily. I especially like the ones when she is with the horses and more relaxed....The one where she's in the suit outside the stall and the horse is leaning his head out for the carrots in her hand, she looks so stunning in a more natural way. I like her hair best that length, too..
Such nice photos, NL.
carolelombard.org is a good site

How come there's no Carol in the directory??? She should definatley be honored with her own FAD thread....Besides if there's Clark Gable there has to be Carol Lombard...Thanks
Mal![]()
No...Not a thread in the forum, I meant her story in the directory on the main page...
Theres a lot of people not on there, I'm sure Scott will get round to it!!!!!
The thread Bee1001 has linked too is great, loads of info.
The anniversary of her birth is coming up in a weeks' time.
Happy birthday, Carole. I'm proud to share my birthday with you!
Sad, she died too young.
Carolyn(1958-2009) always in my heart.
carole and clark made a beautiful couple.
Some people are very anti-circumcision. I think it was definitely less common back then unless you were Jewish. Lots more home births during that era and most of those remained uncircumcised as well.
Whatever the circumstance he was a damned handsome and sexy man until the day he died.
Regards,
Mary
Lombard is one of the few actresses I would have enjoyed a lunch with ... She was animated, humorous, dedicated, unique.
She didn't appear to be egocentric, and simply enjoyed what she did and did it well.
Memorable
Carole genuinely enjoyed life. It's a shame she died so young.

Fun pics! She did die too young. She was so well-liked that she could have had a career for as long as she wanted.
Great pic Kelt
I wonder how well she got along with Vivien Leigh. They both were very salty tongued!
I don't know that they had all that much interaction; LOMBARD married her longtime lover CLARK GABLE in '39 the same year GONE WITH THE WIND came out and LEIGH was heavily involved with LAWRENCE OLIVIER who she would marry a year later. Aside from set visits and maybe (at) the premiere I don't recall reading that the two women had anything to do with one another. Also, LEIGH & deHAVILLAND were in the 'CUKOR' camp unlike GABLE who was in FLEMING'S.

I'm home sick today, and Turner Classic Movies is showing Carole's films all day, most from the early 30's, in honor of her birthday. I really hadn't seen her in much of anything, and all I really knew about her was re: Gable and the plane crash. Wow, she was stunning, but funny, too! She seemed like someone who would be fun to hang out with, drink a few martinis, and dish the dirt.
Didja ever notice in all those old movies, everyone smokes and drinks like fiends!
I wish I had TMC. I'm a big fan of Carole, and I'd love to see her movies that I've not been able to find online yet.
It was TCM (TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES) that ran the LOMBARD marathon not TMC (The Movie Channel). Yes, it was enjoyable. I hope that you'll be able to get & enjoy TCM.

Whoa! 17 hr flight??
It would only be about a 4 hr flight now from Indiana to California :/
Hello All: I am brand new to posting on the forums. I have read them for a while. I would like to say thanks to everyone who posted here to honor the lovely Ms. Lombard. I write about Hollywood's golden age and I am going to write about this sad tragedy in the near future. I won't say where, that would not be appropriate. I just want to encourage the high quality of information.
Anyway, I'm the 'respectfulone' I'm happy to meet you all.
I always thought Carole Lombard FLAWLESS! Yes, Clark Gable was a beautiful man, but he had the morals of a BABOON! Gable would bed anything that moved if he thought it would advance his career. If you don't believe me, ask his daughter that he had with Loretta Young. Ms. young became pregnant while they were filming "Call of the Wild." No wonder Carole wanted to rush home; she knew what he was.
From what I have read on youtube Clark Gable offered a reward for the finder of Carols wedding ring, it seems that although her body was recovered her left hand was missing. It was also said that someone claimed they had found the ring but this has never been confirmed.
I remember once seeing a news reel showing the recovery efforts at the crash site but I've not been able to find this again.
Wow! Such a plethora of information on this classy lady. I am glad to say I have learned more about her from reading through this thread, keep it up guys!![]()
Carole Lombard... That is one hell of a woman. Classy beautiful and funny. Gable was a lucky man.
She was a man's woman! Sexy and a good companion too from everything I have read.
Carole you were a beautiful broad in the truest and most flattering sense of the term.
regards,
mary
Today is Carole Lombard day on TCM. I had heard of her before but never knew anything or seen any of her films. I have been watching them all day and I have not seen a stinker yet. I became an instant fan today. Think it's funny how they called her the fouled mouth angel
And was so sad to hear of the way she died, at 33 years old I believe![]()
Attachment 44869 Rescuers had to wrap the passengers' badly charred remains in Army blankets, then attach ropes and drag the bodies either by hand or by horse to get down the mountain. One online source claims that Lombard lost her left arm and left hand. She was decapitated and had "most of her legs." She and her mother sat in the middle section of the ill-fated airplane.
I read an interesting story about how she and Gable had a huge fight over Lana Turner and he walked out on her the night before she and her mother were to depart on the war bond tour. The next day at the train station, Gable's secretary recalled Lombard being "uncharacteristically subdued" and Clark was a no-show. The studio cooked up a story to cover his absence and Carole tried several times to call him, with no luck at home or at the studio. She sent a final message to him in Texas via telegraph. This clashes with the very popular notion that their marriage was perfect and now I wonder if the studio publicity made things much better than they were. No matter what their relationship might have been or not been, Clark Gable had to live with his actions if he indeed ignored Carole's messages.

Most of the bios I read say that Turner was an issue before she left, but that things had been patched up for the most part when she left, and that he received a telegram from her but he didn't read it until after the crash. No marriage is perfect, but I think they would have managed. She was crazy, but he seemed to be on her wavenlength.
One of my favorites.
RIP Carole
Attachment 44884 This was described as a "high-end, pricey cosmetic" compact. There were four women onboard the plane-Carole, her mother, another female passenger and a stewardess.
