    Colin Clive

British actor who gained cinematic immortality with his performance in the title role of the classic 1931 horror film Frankenstein and its subsequent sequel The Bride of Frankenstein. Clive also was successful in several non-horror roles including Christopher Strong in which he co-starred with a young Katherine Hepburn. Unfortunately, like a comet, Clive's career soon burned out as he became a victim of alcholism which contributed greatly to his untimely death from pneumonia.

Clive's girlfriend, actress Iris Lancaster, made funeral arrangements for him in the absence of any family

Clive was cremated after his death but his ashes were unclaimed and their actual location today is unknown.

    How sad.

I'll put in a vote for dear old Colin. It's hard to imagine anyone else as the Good Doctor, isn't it?

    Born:
January 20, 1898 in St. Malo, France
Death: June 25, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA

Biography:Leading man Colin Clive was born in France to a British colonel and his wife. Clive's own military career was cut short by a knee injury, which fortunately did not prevent him from becoming an actor. Clive was brought to Hollywood on the strength of his stage performance in "Journey's End", duly committed to film in 1930. He spent the rest of his movie career hopscotching between England and America, his most significant work emanating from Hollywood. Clive has earned a niche in cinematic valhalla for his feverish, driven performance as Dr. Frankenstein in "Frankenstein" (1931) and "Bride of Frankenstein" (1935), both directed by his "Journey's End" mentor James Whale. He was also seen as Rochester in the first talkie version of "Jane Eyre" (1934). Never a well man, Colin Clive died of tuberculosis at the age of 39. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

apparently there was controversy over his line in the movie "now i know what it feels like to be God", and if you notice, that line is somewhat covered up by noise, but you can just figure out what he says......

    just found this:

"His cenotaph is located at Chapel of the Pines Crematory, but his ashes were scattered at sea in 1978 after they spent over 40 years unclaimed in the basement of the funeral parlour where his body was brought after his death"

He was fantastic in Frankenstein. Sad that alcoholism took it's toll on his looks. He looked 57 as opposed to 37.Click image for larger version.

Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. So whatever you do today, do it with kindness.
