Back in 1988 during the primary season, in an effort to totally piss off my parents, I supported Joe Biden's campaign for the nomination. I even sent him money for his campaign (not much but $25 was a lot of money for a college student then).
Then the plagiarism story hit and he quit the race. He quit the race without even so much as a thank you for those who supported him. Something. Anything. Never got. I really thought him a total douchebag for simply packing up and going home. I lost all respect for him. I never really liked Dukakis so I wound up siding with my parents and voted Republican that fall.
This year, I supported Mitt Romney in the primaries. When he dropped out, I got a nice little form letter thanking me for my support and asking me to support Sen. McCain in the general election. Even if it was a form letter, it was something. It showed class. Something I never got from Sen. Biden.
Okay, so Sarah Palin was in Philly tonight. Dropped the puck at the Flyer's game..all kinds of press. Joe Biden was at the University of Delaware game down the street...not a word on it...wtf? However, all the press on Palin was negative...so it's all good.
I think its great that Joe doesn't get a bunch of press. He's not suppose to. He's doing great on the campaign trail and he did great during the debate. He is doing exactly what he is suppose to do.
It's possible for people to learn their lessons and not repeat mistakes they made in the past (ie, plagiarism). That's something I think a lot of people in general forget, both with politicians and us regular citizens. Of course, the degree of the mistake matters, too. Joe Biden plagiarizing was a hefty enough mistake, not to mention not thanking his supporters--I would take offense to that too. But it doesn't mean he didn't learn from it. So when he makes gaffes like the Chuck Graham one, but realizes it and immediately switches it around, I'm OK with that. It doesn't show that he didn't do his homework or has no clue who Chuck Graham is, and it wasn't done in mean-spiritedness.
I'm not being lenient on Biden's mistakes just because I think he is awesome; I would be forgiving of any politician if they were genuine about their mistakes (or even admitted them).
The current administration would seem so much more human if they would've been admitting they fucked up when they fucked up. I remember seeing something recent--within the last year?--where Bush 43 admitted some kind of mistake in this Iraq situation (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and as small and short an admittance as it was, it was something genuine.
Biden vs. Sarah Palin: she is so scripted most of the time with that hockey mom-Joe Sixpack shit that she comes across as a kind of Everymom/Everywoman (at least to Republicans) prototype that conservative women are responding to, right down to the eyeglasses. She's like an American Girl doll for women.
Obama has nuances of his own prototype, but he's been campaigning for long enough now that he is more natural and his genuineness is mixed in with his rhetoric. They all have their role--someone in another thread sort of berated Biden for choking up when he talked about his first wife and daughter who were killed. Yes, it might be a part of his "script," but it's something that happened to him, and I doubt he's scripting the choke-up. I think if Sarah Palin is in these high-profile politics for awhile longer, she will learn to let her real self sift its way into her speech. You know as a mother, she was probably devastated to learn her oldest daughter was pregnant. Instead of being real about that, she glosses it over with "Life happens." Eventually that bumper sticker gets old and peels off, though.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Luanne.
Maybe this is what the Gaffemaster General had in mind when he made his remark that the next president will be tested with an international crisis, and the president's actions (presumably Obama) would not be popular at first:

PhilleFan, you can tell he's loving all this. I don't care what gaffees he makes, he's a plus to the ticket.
a report says his daughter Ashley has been caught on tape snorting cocaine:

Shes still not as cool as Kate Moss though.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
A "friend" of Vice President Joseph Biden's daughter, Ashley, is attempting to hawk a videotape that he claims shows her snorting cocaine at a house party this month in Delaware.
Sounds like heresay....need to see the vid....nice link C
Who cares if its real or hearsay really. Big shock! People do coke! Most of the Bushes do so big whoop. Show me a tape of her flying a plane into the World Trade Center then Ill be interested.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
I just find Biden such a sanctimonious windbag, it would be ironic if his daughter is a coke head. She is kind of cute.
IF true, so what? It was no big deal to me when a family values candidate ended up with a pregnant daughter, so it is no big deal to me if an anti-drug pol has a druggy daughter...at least it isn't Biden himself. Meh.
We really shouldn`t get into family scandals of past presidents.....we`ll be here all day....let he who is innocent, and has run this country perfectly cast the first stone
I can't even believe this is news. Ashley has been a party girl for years, no news in Delaware, weren't we all? Biden, sanctimonious? He's one of the more humble politicians I've seen.
Well Obama admits to doing coke and he's the President. I'm sure that Biden's daughter doing it can't be that big of a deal to most people.

Dubya had his head firmly planted to hundred dollar bills snorting candy, and he did 8 years.....so I guess it MUST be a prerequisite to becoming President.......![]()
apparently, she is a social worker employed with the Delaware Dept of Child, Youth and Families. I can just imagine her giving the don't use drugs speech to kids.
Just about everyone I know has tried one kind of drug or another. We're talking about doctors, attorneys, teachers, etc. Of course we're all going to tell our kids that its not the right thing to do because honestly, while one person can try them and even more than try them and not get hooked, the next person only has to use them a few times and its hooked for years. Simply because someone has experimented doesn't make them a bad person or incapable of holding down important jobs.
Tis true AW....and I`m considering the " source " here....I mean The New York Post for cripes sake....1 notch above or below the Enquirer, depending on your reading habits.....like I said....I`d have to see the vid....clear shot of her face actually doing it, not like those bad porns of Paris Hilton....![]()
Knowing how long it took dear old dad to get to this point in his career, she really should be ashamed of herself because right or wrong, this is going to reflect on him. As a daughter, if this is true, she pretty much sucks.
*** REPORTER CONFINED IN CLOSET DURING VEEP'S FUNDRAISER ***
Sat March 26 2011 17:04:37 EDT
Staffers with Vice President Joe Biden confined an Orlando Sentinel reporter in a closet this week to keep him from mingling with high-powered guests gathered for a Democratic fundraiser.
Reporter Scott Powers was the designated "pool reporter" for the vice president's Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg. The veep hadn't arrived yet but most of the 150 guests (minimum $500 donation) had. They were busy noshing on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and gorgonzola cheese and bacon deviled eggs, before a lunch of grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps.
Not so for Powers. A "low-level staffer" put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. "When I'd stick my head out, they'd say, 'Not yet. We'll let you know when you can come out.'"

How can this be freedom of the press ? The papaer is in the tank for the democrats and still gets treated like this. Had this been under Bush's admistration .... This and The Washington Times are the only places that mentioned this about Joe Biteme's staff
Even though he once served as the Green Czar, resigned due to controversial statements over 9/11 and got his office with at least the partial help of Biden himself, Biden seems to forget who he is.

I heard on a talk show this morning that there were some rumblings in Washington that the democrats were floating the idea of an Obama/Clinton (Hillary) ticket for 2012. When it was brought up to Biden in an interview, he emphatically denied it and said he wasn't going anywhere.
Is an Obama/Clinton ticket more attractive to liberals? Any conservatives concerned by the thought?
I personally think it would be a more viable ticket for the democrats.

It looks like you are correct.

Of course people will use ideology as a weapon. Look at the way the democrats treat someone like Joe Biden who does have limited brain power and John Edwards. Edwards repeated his lies to the press until he was caught. This guy ran for oresident 2x and was in the VP slot 1x and the main stream press never went after him. It was the National Enquirer. I know that it is ideology that drives a lot of this stuff...a lot of people haven't changed their playbooks since Reagan, Bush, whatever. It won't work. People who decide elections are independent voters.

President Obama is using the old tactic of having a doofus as VEEP. Look at the long line of VP doofuses, Agnew, Ford, Mondale, Quayle, Gore, and now Biden. Biden is the reason no one has taken a shot at President Obama.

I remember that they said that Hillary was never in the running for VP. I know that there was talk recently about replacing Biden with her. I think some people on the staff knows there are problems with Biden's brain damage. You don't go through what he went through and not have issues. I don't know why the public is silent on the issue.

Palin to Obama: Dump Biden, Get Hillary
In what might seem an ironic piece of advice considering the source, Sarah Palin says President Barack Obama should dump Vice President Joe Biden and put Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the Democratic ticket because Biden's tendency to make "outrageous" statements could be "the nail in the coffin" of the Obama presidency.
Reacting to Biden's remark Tuesday that Republican policies would put Americans "back in chains," Palin told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren that his "disgusting comment" made to a Virginia audience that was half African-American was unacceptable and would likely turn out to be "the nail in the coffin, really," of Obama's re-election bid.

Reading the old comments about Biden on this thread is hilarious. Even funnier is that he was placed on the ticket to help look Obama more experienced!
President Obama should never let Hillary Clinton be VP. He would have to dodge threats from Republicans and Democrats.

Well it would certainly be a show stopper week after next if B.O. announced that Hillary would be taking MoJoe's place on the ticket...such a development would guarantee B.O. re-election, not to mention entertainment value of the veep debate...me thinks Hill would rip little Paul to shreds. We'd then have our first female POTUS, for all intents and purposes.
Hillary already said she didn't want it. We have to think of different people. Maybe Pelosi or Debbie Wasserman Shultz?

Yep, that's what Hillary said. Pelosi and Shultz are more polarizing in the public's eye, I think, than Biden. But as for Hill, I believe most of the general public views her as centrist, or that's how she's portrayed anyway, like Bill. It all depends on who the banksters want to install as the next puppet prez.
