    Dad's Army

    Dad‚??s Army (1968 ‚?? 1977)
Wasn't sure whether to post this in Actors or in Entertainment but as most of the cast are dead now I thought Actors!!!

This programme celebrates its 40th Birthday this month and although many of you won‚??t have a clue of what I‚??m on about, I had to mention it

    I Love this programme
It doesn‚??t date because it‚??s a period piece anyway
    It always cheers me up

    Arthur Lowe (Capt. Mainwaring)
Was a Narcoleptic and died at 66

    James Beck (Private Walker)
Died suddenly of Pancreatitis‚??s at just 44

The Suave and Dapper John Le Mesurier (Sgt Wilson)
Was married for some time to Hattie Jacques (another Big, in all ways, British Comedy Star) then married Joan Maulin, who during their marriage had a love affair with another major star, Tony Hancock (Who Killed himself)

Many of the stars were very old men when the series started in 1968 anyway so it is no surprise that only 3 of the cast are still alive!

    But just wanted to share

I loved that show, especially the episode where Captain Mainwaring says "don't tell him pike" to the German captain, brilliant, Arthur Lowe appeared in Coronation Street as Leonard Swindley, he was going to marry Emily Bishop, but called it off.

I know they were selling the dvd of a few episodes with a magazine in england - it was a monthy edition. If you have a multi regional dvd - it might be a lot cheaper buying those on ebay!

There were three missing episodes no one could find. Back in the old days here in the UK, they would wipe the videos to use again so a lot of shows from 50s/60s even to the 70s were lost. Someone came up with the idea of using the scripts and filming them with a newer cast and put it on the Gold channel. It's not great but they do a good enough job especially Kevin McNally who takes on the role of Mainwaring. YT has clips up of the episodes and they are now on DVD if anyone is interested.
