It would've helped if the other passengers had "Rambo knives" too...
here's another decapitation. read how despite being shot 5 times, the killer was hard for trained police to take down.
it was too late for tim. the people on that bus could do nothing but save themselves.

HL:Man accused of beheading bus passenger says please kill me in
Manitoba court
THE CANADIAN PRESS
PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Man. -- A man accused of stabbing and
beheading a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus has been ordered to
undergo a psychiatric evaluation after pleading in court for someone
to kill him.
Vince Weiguang Li, 40, is charged with second-degree murder in
the death last Wednesday of Tim McLean.
During the brief court appearence in Portage la Prairie Li was
heard softly saying please kill me.
Witnesses have said that a passenger stabbed and beheaded McLean
as the bus approached the community west of Winnipeg.
Li, a former newspaper delivery man from Edmonton, has not
entered a plea on the charge.
McLean, a carnival worker, was remembered by his family as a free
spirit who warmed the hearts of those around him with his infectious
laugh.

I'm sure there will be no shortage of volunteers
How long does it take to be evaluated?
Interesting development...
Accused killer chatted with victim's co-worker
Vince Li sat with her for an hour. Then moved to back of bus beside McLean
The seeds for Tim McLean's brutal murder on board a Greyhound bus last week might have been planted when the man accused of his murder, Vince Li, spent nearly an hour chatting up the victim's co-worker during their ride through western Manitoba.
Li, 40, took a seat at the front of the bus beside a woman named Stacy after getting on board in Brandon. The pair chatted and were even seen smoking together during a rest stop.
As the bus resumed its ill-fated journey toward Winnipeg, Li suddenly moved to the back of the bus and sat beside McLean, who was listening to his headphones and apparently asleep.
Moments later, McLean was being repeatedly stabbed until he was decapitated. Horrified passengers fled the bus but managed to lock the killer inside.
McLean's family and friends don't believe Li's change-of-seating was a coincidence. And they question why he was charged with second-degree murder and not first-degree murder, which indicates planning and premeditation.
"I have this unbelievably strong feeling that him sitting beside Stacy had something to do with this," McLean's former girlfriend, Alexandra Storey, said in interview yesterday.
Li is to appear in court today in Portage la Prairie, where a judge is expected to rule on a Crown request for a psychiatric evaluation.
Tim and Stacy had become friends while working together at various western Canadian fairs through North American Midway Entertainment.
They were travelling together to Winnipeg - although seated separately in different areas of the bus - and had planned to meet up with a mutual friend in the city. The three then planned to go to British Columbia.
McLean's loved ones now desperately want to speak with Stacy - her last name is not known to them - to find out more about her dealings with Li on the bus.
They only know she quickly returned to B.C. after McLean's killing, and presumably after an interview with police.
A call to North American Midway Entertainment seeking information about the woman was not returned yesterday.
Storey is also haunted by a series of text messages McLean sent to her as he made his way through Manitoba. Her ex-boyfriend said some people were doing ecstasy on the bus.
Some medical experts say a powerful stimulant drug such as ecstasy, combined with pre-existing mental health conditions, could trigger a violent episode.
Storey isn't buying it.
"Even if he was doing drugs, it wouldn't make him do something like that. There's no excuse," she said.
Members of a Winnipeg family who had extensive dealings with Li during his two years living in the city said they believe he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. However, he refused to see a doctor, despite a strong push from the family and members of a local church he attended and where he briefly worked as a janitor.
Li's erratic behaviour included making statements about always being watched and taking sudden, unexplained bus trips to various locales including The Pas and Toronto. He eventually left his wife, Anna, in 2006 and moved to Edmonton, where he began delivering newspapers and briefly worked at McDonald's. Anna recently left Winnipeg to join him in Alberta.
Wonder if Stacy was complaining about Tim, "he said he loved me, waaa" and Li thought he was playing the knight in shining armor.
A couple of added details from today's court appearance:
Li stared at the ground and wouldn't speak during much of Tuesday's court appearance.
Court heard how, since his arrest, Li has declined to speak with justice officials and a legal aid lawyer assigned to his case.
When a judge asked him if he wanted a lawyer, Li shook his head no and then quietly said "please kill me."
Li's remark was heard by reporters and confirmed by court clerks but was not acknowledged by the judge. He is due back in court Sept. 8.
I understand the whole part of having a death penalty and I also see why people prefer it and don't want to have to pay for an inmate's expenses but... The idea of someone sitting in jail rotting for the next 40 or more years is just so much more appealing to me.
People like that should be put in isolation for the rest of their lives... THAT would be the best punishment for these assholes.
Sounds like his reactions are going to waiver him for an insanity plea... Asshole.
A couple of gruesome new details:
As part of her submissions to secure the psychiatric evaluation, the Crown attorney in the case, Joyce Dalmyn, revealed disturbing new details about what happened that night on the bus.
According to a police report read by the Crown, officers discovered a plastic bag containing an ear, nose and part of a mouth in the pocket of the accused.
The night of the deadly attack, Dalmyn said the only response officers received from Li: "I have to stay on the bus forever".
Witnesses have described what they call an uprovoked attack in which McLean was savagely stabbed in front of horrified passengers, and then decapitated.
Li, who recently immigrated to Canada from China, lived with his wife in Edmonton prior to the attack. He worked as a newspaper delivery man as well as at a Wal-Mart in the city.
Support for McLean's family has poured in from around the world, with tens of thousand of people having joined Facebook groups in his honour.
Was it Tims ear and nose or another victoms?
It must've been Tim's, unless he was a collector .
And we now have a clue as to what might have set this off:
"He worked as a newspaper delivery man as well as at a Wal-Mart in the city." That'd drive anyone mental...
Oh yes, when a murderer realizes he deserves to die he's obviously certifiable. Everyone knows you are not to blame for violent actions. There's always a reason - psychosis, mom didn't hug you, ect.
Or maybe she was telling him she really liked Tim & he thought he could get him out of the way.
Wal Mart, Was he a night stalker
what a nut case and I think this Stacey girl is covering something up!! I wanna see the pics of the bloody bus.....okay will thay clean the bus and use it again?? Most likley huh?? Can you imagine years later sitting in the seat the guy was sitting in before he was stabbed? Also I wonder what the cause of death was?? Im just wondering how long it took him to die..I hope fast..poor bastard!
>have you ever been in a terror situation? Have you?
>Do you know what it feels like to be rooted to the spot in sheer terror?
Yes. Ten years ago a man followed his exgirlfriend into our hospital and started pistol whipping her with a handgun.
I grabbed the three hole punch and jumped over the counter on top of him. I got in two hard swings to his head before my two coworkers dogpiled on top of us.
He could have beaten her brains in in the time it would have taken to call 911 or he could have shot people.
>I somehow doubt it, or you wouldn't be so quick to judge.
Really?
My attitude is sh*t or get off the pot. There's a lot to be said for having someone's back.
Nelliebean, if you did that you are a braver woman than I. All I know is I've witnessed tense situations on NYC subways....always went numb and slightly faint with fear, then fled before the shit hit the fan.
The only situation I know I would not run from is defending my own loved ones. Most especially my kids.
And I also have intervened in a conflict situation.Taken responsibility for many emergency/accident scenes.
But I stand by my statement. None of us was there.
I'm not judging those people. Have I reacted quickly and without thinking to help someone, or respond in an emergency situation? Yes. Can I hold all people to the same kind of response that you and I have? No.
The circumstances are different. It was a mighty horrific different. And also- think about it as being in a closed confined place.
People panic.
That kid was likely dying when they first noticed the attack- he'd already been stabbed in the throat with a military knife, what kind of trauma did he sustain? The attack was robotic, and he hit him 50-60 times...this was a frenzy, and people reacted the only way they could.
Everybody else got out alive. And I think that's all that anyone could hope for, under the circumstances.
Please don't misread my posts. I am not advocating not getting involved, or having someone's back. I am simply saying that, without being in this horrific situation, we can't with any certainty say what we would do. We can say what we'd LIKE to do...but it doesn't always work out that way.
And that's what happened in this case. It's always nice to think one would be the hero- but it doesn't always happen. These people are traumatized, they are certainly suffering from survivor guilt, but they may not have been able to do anything- not save Tim's life. They tried to save other people's lives though.- Throwing the kid up 3 or 4 rows to save him/her? That's not heroic? Or is it desperate. I can only imagine people attempting to protect those around them. Maybe not the victim...but those around them.
So blast away...but as for myself, I can't judge these people. I'm just amazed that no one else was hurt.
Here's the latest...
it gets worse and worse....
<sigh>
from the Winnipeg Sun:
PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE -- Editor's note: Some of the details in this article are disturbing and may be upsetting for readers.
---
The first public words Vince Weiguang Li uttered since being charged in a gruesome beheading that has made headlines around the world were a quiet, almost inaudible, plea for death.
"Please kill me," he said, barely audible, yesterday in provincial court. Li's comment was heard by reporters and confirmed by court clerks but not acknowledged by Judge Michel Chartier.
Li, facing a second-degree murder charge for the July 30 killing of Tim McLean Jr. on a Greyhound bus about 20 km west of Portage, only nodded or shook his head to questions throughout his appearance.
He made no eye contact and appeared to be rocking back and forth as he stood.
Crown attorney Joyce Dalmyn asked for an assessment to determine the accused's fitness to stand trial.
"He probably would not do it with all kinds of witnesses if he were in a completely operating mind, but, again, I don't know that. I leave that to the psychiatrist," she said, speaking to media afterwards.
As part of her submissions to secure the psychiatric evaluation, Dalmyn revealed disturbing new details about what happened on the bus.
According to an RCMP report read by Dalmyn, the suspect allegedly beheaded McLean and was later spotted eating the victim's flesh. Body parts -- an ear, nose, and part of a mouth -- were also found in a plastic bag inside the suspect's pocket.
When he was asked by Mounties to leave the bus, the suspect was reported to have only said, "I have to stay on the bus forever." A witness told RCMP the suspect stabbed McLean between 20 and 40 times.
Yesterday, Edmonton radio station 630 CHED reported that McLean had told an Asian man who was hitting on a female co-worker of his on the bus to "lay off."
Li, who recently immigrated to Canada from China, lived with his wife in Edmonton prior to the attack. He worked as a newspaper delivery man as well as at a Wal-Mart in the city.
Dalmyn said she received some information the accused may have previously been in a psychiatric institution for four days, but more information needs to be obtained before details can be made available.
The accused has still not formally retained counsel and only shook his head in the negative to indicate whether he wanted a lawyer.
Legal aid lawyer Randall Janis spoke briefly with the suspect, but told reporters following yesterday's hearing Li was "non-communicative."
"In the situation he's in, it's not surprising to me he would have ... suicidal thoughts and feelings," said Janis after the hearing, of Li's earlier remarks.
Chartier ordered the accused to have a psychiatric assessment to determine if he is fit to stand trial.
Li is to appear in court again on Sept. 8.
And poor Tim's father had to identify his body...how? Looks like that Li monster essentially tore his head apart...
I'm not ever leaving the house without my three hole punch again!!
This story has given me so many nightmares...
I want Li executed.
I want someone to shoot him on the courthouse steps and just save everyone the bother of a trial. What's to try for God's sake. Just do him in. Vigilante justice.
I still do not think protecting a dead body is worth loss of life. It seems that it was very obvious to the passengers Tim was beyond saving. Remember Rodney King? How many men did it take to get him down? He was on drugs & mace didn't put him down. He was a big guy too. I doubt they could have subdued him, especially with him a frenzy.
I'm gonna say a prayer for Tim's family, and especially his father. They really asked him to view? Wow...
being trapped in the confines of a bus with a crazy man, it is a miracle that others weren't hurt.
They protected one another and that's all you can ask of people. Tim was obviously in a window seat. If this huge guy is swinging a knife from the aisle seat, how would anyone have been able to get close enough to do anything to prevent it, without there being other loss of life or injury. They got everyone out of the bus. I agree with RaRa that protecting a dead body is not worth loss of life.
I agree, Ceege. It is a miracle they got everyone else off the bus alive. The other passengers may not have realized that Tim was basically dead immediately, but they would have seen there was nothing they could do. I'm sure the killer oozed "crazy" at that point. My prayers are definitely with Tim's family and loved ones.
The mom throwing her toddler to the front gives me chills. I would have done the same with my babies. I am happy she was also able to get off the bus alive and hold her baby again. I hope the other passengers can get the help they need to deal with what they've seen.
As for the killer...crazy or not, there's just not a good enough Earthly punishment for him. Even the death penalty isn't good enough, seeing as it's just a little IV in the arm. Too bad Dahmer's dead, we could loan him to Canada to deal with this dude.

Greyhound scraps ads after Canada bus beheading

TORONTO (AP) -- Greyhound has scrapped an ad campaign that
extolled the relaxing upside of bus travel after one of its
passengers was accused of beheading and cannibalizing another
traveler.
The ad's tag line was "There's a reason you've never heard of
'bus rage."'
Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said Wednesday a billboard
and some tunnel posters near a bus terminal in Toronto are still up
and would be removed later in the day.
"Greyhound knows how important it is to get these removed and
we are doing everything possible," Wambaugh said. "This is
something that we immediately asked to be done last week, realizing
that these could be offensive."
Vince Weiguang Li, who immigrated to Canada from China in 2004,
is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old
carnival worker Tim McLean. He has yet to enter a plea.
Thirty-seven passengers were aboard the Greyhound from Edmonton,
Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, as it traveled at night along a
desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway about 12 miles from
Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Witnesses said Li attacked McLean
unprovoked, stabbing him dozens of times.
As horrified passengers fled the bus, Li severed McLean's head,
displaying it to some of the passengers outside the bus, witnesses
said.
A police officer at the scene reported seeing the attacker
hacking off pieces of the victim's body and eating them, according
to a police report.
Wambaugh said the ads only appeared in Canada and that some in
Ontario and western Canada have already been removed. About 20,000
inserts of the Greyhound ads were scheduled to be put into an
Alberta Summer Games handbook but they stopped the presses.

Breaking news...
Teen Bought Killer's Laptop
By ROB NAY, SUN MEDIA
A teenage boy in rural Manitoba shook hands with Vince Weiguang Li just hours before the man allegedly killed and dismembered 22-year-old Tim McLean aboard a Greyhound bus.
Darren Beatty, 15, bought a laptop from Li on the morning of the killing in Erickson, Man.
"He just seemed like such a nice guy. It didn't seem like he'd do anything bad," said Beatty.
The teenager saw Li a night earlier, sitting on a bench outside a grocery store. When Beatty returned the next morning, Li was still there with a sign advertising a laptop computer for sale for $600.
After bargaining back and forth, the boy picked up the laptop for only $60.
"He seemed really happy that I bought it," said Beatty.
The teenager took the laptop home but found he couldn't access it since it required a password. He returned to find Li outside the grocery store and the man gave him an access code for the computer, along with a free case for it. Just after 6 p.m. that day, a Greyhound bus left Erickson, which is about 250 km northwest of Winnipeg, and Li was gone.
A little more than two hours later, the terrifying homicide took place aboard the Greyhound bus. The next day, Beatty received a call from RCMP asking to speak to him, saying the man he bought the laptop from had been involved in an "incident" on a bus.
"I thought (Li) was the guy who was the victim," said Beatty. "He just seemed straight and narrow."
RCMP confiscated the laptop as part of their investigation. Before they seized it, Beatty found pictures of fighter jets, e-mails written in Chinese and copies of Li's resume saved on the computer.
After the teenager learned Li was the suspect and not the victim in the vicious murder, he felt ill.
"I was really shocked. I had a hard time sleeping that night -- I was replaying the events over in my mind," said Beatty.
