It seems lately I have been more than my usual share of moving and renaming threads. Please use the search before posting a new thread. If there is already a Paris Hilton thread already for example, there is no need to make a new thread about her pet chihuahua. And also please name you threads accordingly. If you have a thread about a woman dying of a colon cleansing accident, don't name it "OMG...This is SOOOO gross!" It makes it easier for members to know if they want to read it or not if the title is explanatory. In the FAQ there is a helpful guide for posting for those new members who have question's. Thanks.

I agree with you, Jefe. I think that since we've grown exponentially since October, there are many new people who are just excited that they found kindred spirits to share their morbid hobby. But yes, there is a search option up at the top there. Just type in what it is that you think you may want to start a thread on to see if it's already been posted. We have a pretty deep archive. Pages and pages since October.

Hahaha! I guess Australian DEAD are a bit slower to be announced worldwide!

That said ...I first heard of Heath being dead on FAD and that was a shock ....as in my headspace at the time I was going to FAD before Nine MSN .....how funny!
I have heard of many deaths on FAD before the news hits elsewhere and that is either ironic or amazing!

Good thing for FAD as it it is very immediate and the forum is sharp and on the ball, Good work guys! I often rush home after hearing a death and know there will be a concise, evolving report on FAD.

    Possibly renaming a thread

Can we rename the thread entitled

"Forget Red Bull, Try some refreshing horse placenta "

to something more generic about any placenta?

    How about

Sure thing but remember we aren't going to change a thread title unless its requested by the person who made the thread or it's misspelled, vague, misleading or vulgar. Imagine 100 people with OCD trying to organize the same house. Someone is gonna be unhappy.

    ok

How come every time I post my title usually gets changed and it gets moved? What's the point of having a title option if we can't name it what we want?

We try to stay away from really generalized titles, stuff like "Check this out". If it said "Check this out - Ted Bundy" or had something of the thread subject in the title, that would be better because it's searchable. When we have thread titles that are really general, it makes it hard to search for that particular thread subject, and merge it with an existing one if need be. It's just a way of keeping the forum organized for everyone.

I think this has been said before, and I'm going to repeat. Use the title of the article you are starting a thread about; that way it will come up on the search engine.

Are the reasons Jefestone listed here still the only reasons that the mods change a title of a thread?

unless its requested by the person who made the thread
    misspelled
    vague

Can somebody please respond to my question? I am interested because it appears that someone is changing basically all of the titles to my threads.
    For example:

2011-02-07 Pregnant Woman Dies After Fight at Traffic Court
Woman Dies After Fight at Traffic Court

2011-02-08 British Woman Dies After Buttocks Enhancement Surgery
Woman Dies After Buttocks Enhancement Surgery

2011-02-09 Man Dies In Accident On TV Show NCIS Set
Man Dies in Accident on NCIS Set

2011-02-09 Teenager Walks Off Building While Texting, Dies
Teenager Walks Off Building While Texting

2011-02-08 Dog Saves Family From Fire - Months After They Stopped Vet From Putting Her Down
    Dog Saves Family From Fire

2011-02-09 Woman Buys Home, Finds Previous Owner Dead With Pet Inside
Woman Buys Home w/ Previous Owner Dead Inside

2011-02-10 Girl, 18, Has Fatal Heart Attack Minutes After Her First Kiss
18 y/o girl, Has Fatal Heart Attack After First Kiss

    And my favourite:

2011-02-07 Son Kills Father, Blames 'Red Bull'
Son Kills Father, Blames Red Bull

(the mod removed the quotes around 'Red Bull', lol)

I don't believe that any of my posts were any of the reasons that Jefestone wrote (above) for changing titles - and I believe the title change even diminished the value (ie the woman killed at Traffic Court was pregnant so 2 lives were lost, the dog that saved the family from fire was saved from being put down, etc.) Additionally, I believe that the changes are making my threads MORE vague as invariably the mods are deleting some words.

Also, I noticed one thread (not one of mine) that was listed inaccurately for 2 weeks before it was changed:

    2011-01-28 Mom kills teen sons
2011-02-10 Mom kills son & daughter

There is a character limit in the title block so I assume your Titles are allowed to be up to the end of that character count.

Are my threads going under some additional scrutiny?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

"Too long" and "too vague" run contrary to one another.

From the examples I have written above, can you tell me which are too long (which was not written as a reason mods can change Titles by Jefestone [above]) and which ones were too vague.

BTW I have an email from Nick saying that Titles can't be too long.

For instance were the quotes taken away from my 'Red Bull' title because the quotes made it too long or too vague?

If you could explain why each title was changed, it would be helpful so that I don't repeat it. I don't want to make extra work for the mods.

    Pat,

A lot of your titles are way too long and confusing b/c you are trying too put so much information on the title itself. Another reason why I tend to change titles so that they can make sense and it will be easier for someone to "SEARCH" for it, using the search function. If the titles are too long or the main point, or "key" worlds are not even on the title it makes it hard to search for topics and then we have repeated threads.

Sometimes, I look at your thread titles and they are confusing - less is more, in my opinion. So basically the main reason for editing your titles so they can make sense and more be more easier to find on the search function.

Thank you for your reply Mrs JD - But it just seemed to me like 80% of my titles were being altered in some way, no matter how small, when other posts that had glaring errors persisted for weeks. Like taking out the word "Pregnant" (which I thought made the story more tragic) or the term "TV Show" (does everyone here know what "NCIS" is?), etc. Even taking the quotes away from 'Red Bull'... It just appeared to me that my threads were being altered way too often for no particular reason - "Micromanagement Inequities"

Pat, I would suggest to really think of your titles. There is no need to state the obvious in some thread titles. When you put the "key" words and keep it short it makes people more curious to look a them. If thread titles are too confusing, they will be changed. Its as simple as that. I have answered your and explain it to you. No more need in dragging this issue. If you still have questions please PM me.

It still says "father if Tim Robbins" to me. Maybe I need to quote that line from when Harry Met Sally: "I'll have what she's having!"

"So many faces in and out of my life. Some will last, some will just be now and then. Life is a series of Hellos and Goodbyes, I'm afraid it's time for Goodbye again. "
