Yeah, I've always thought the lot were a mess. You never know what they are into. But I've liked Leo since he appeared on Growing Pains. I don't run out and see everything he's done. I don't even know that I've ever seen one of his movies. I did try to sit through Grape. So I can't rate his acting. And it's not his looks. It's a Cindy thang, I guess.

Grape? You mean What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Love that movie!

Yeah the whole boycott thing and the obligatory rant from Chris Rock kept us from watching.

The last movie I saw and paid money for was Titanic.
(back in 1996) so Leo is the best.

They all take themselves entirely too seriously. I wouldn't be able to stand being in an industry where everyone thinks they're the best thing that ever happened to the planet.

    This!
To my Father. Even though you have crossed the plane, you will always be with me.
You were not just my Father, but my hero. My life has been a poor attempt to be like you
You taught me music, vocals, and how to fight. I can only hope I am half the man you are
When I close my eyes I can see you. And finally, Thank you Dad. for everything.

I haven't watched a hollyweird award show in quite some time. It's a circle jerk for themselves. If I think a movie is good enough I'll buy the DVD later on.

I haven't watched this shit show for a very long time. There is no difference between the actors anymore to me. Certainly is not like it use to be. I will continue to watch my older movies when acting was acting and beautiful and handsome meant something. The 'diversity' bullshit has been going on forever. My take....do some extraordinary acting and you might win one, other than that sit down and STFU. Jada Pinkett-Smith is a joke and she mad cause she can't act her way out of a paper bag if she tried.

2017 Oscar nominations now out. I can definitely tell La La Land is this year's Oscar darling.

The Oscars have become a joke. Look everybody we are really diverse this year ! Bullshit, diversity should include ALL races, and not just a group that are always whining. I'm surprised Jada isn't on a rant about Will not being nominated for Collateral Beauty.

I'm only in this for the massive laundry list that is the In Memoriam segment (and even then, I'll just stumble across an HD version posted on the internet anyway).

Otherwise, I'm (mostly) out. This year's awards show seems even more predictable than before, what with the Academy handing out awards to La La Land like candy.

Haven't watched it in years, it always pisses me off they will leave out several people in the In Memoriam segment. They claim it's to keep it on schedule but there are so many lame ass dance and music numbers they could afford to cut.

I could get that snooze fest down to 2 hours including commercials.

Considering how many people we've lost in 2016, I fear the worst when it comes to how many names might be cut.

Florence Henderson/Garry Shandling/Doris Roberts and Robert Vaughn were a few left off the In Memoriam list

They always leave out people in the list for the year, so the living can give longer speeches and the host can tell more crappy jokes. Everyone should have been included, and celebrated for their contributions to the industry.

These aren't really snubs. The Oscars are for movies, not TV. (The article you link actually acknowledges this point, and then lamely concludes that these people should be on the list anyway because they appeared in "at least one" movie.)

If you look at the people in the montage, they are all either a) known MAINLY for movies; or b) specifically connected to the Oscars.

An example of b) would be Mary Tyler Moore: she's mostly remembered for TV, but was also nominated for an Oscar for "Ordinary People." (They show a short clip from the movie in the montage. Ted Knight is nowhere to be found.)

This is also why Prince - who won an Oscar for the "Purple Rain" soundtrack - is shown, and David Bowie isn't.

I may be one of the few people here who has never watched the Oscars. I do watch the highlights the next day, which takes all of 5 minutes, but it's rare for a movie to come out that I want to see. I remember the last time I went to the theater I paid $10 for the ticket, and $20 for nachos and a soda. At home I got a 65" TV, surround sound, Netflix & Amazon, popcorn and nachos I can make for 50 cents, same for the soda, and a couch that reclines. Guess I'm too old or too cheap for the theater experience. Anyways, what were we talkin about... Oscars?

I stopped watching the Oscars a long time ago. Usually, most of the movies nominated are such pretentious pieces of crap- I have no interest in seeing them.

I like the pre and post show bullcorn. Debra and I will look at one of many red carpet rants. We have more fun making our own. The usual gripes from the usual rotating suspects. There is ALWAYS something wrong with each award show. The "Solidarity" thingy is Black Clothes for an after5 event. Shocking. Plus a wee orange flag. I wanna see real commitment, Glasgow Smiles, Ritual Scaring, something you can't toss off afterwards. Mouths sewn shut would be ideal.

Let's see, what did I learn tonight? Oh, Trump bad, borders bad, sovereign nations bad, everyone come; nothing of course mentioned about ruining it for the rest of us non-millionaires who don't have well-guarded gates to keep out criminals, nor escorted motorcades, planes and helicopters to escape to a second, third or fourth home. And so it goes.

The studio suits keep blaming "online piracy" and "content theft" for declining profits and audiences, but it's because the truly creative people have been drummed out or gone overseas. There are far more interesting and original films coming out of Europe than Hollywood. When I see a foreign film it feels like it's based on real life, emotions and situations, not retreads of Sixties sitcoms or endless reboots of DC and Marvel comic book superheroes. There may be a few original talents left but they've long since caved to political correctness or keep their true feelings hidden in order to survive ("stop me before I make another sequel!").

Agree on the falling profits. They turn out fresh crap, or recycled crap. The best movie of the year is about a Women boinking The Creature from the Black Lagoon. (snort) The smaller independent films are getting better. I've seen some Indie stuff on You Tube better than what Hollywood is squeezing out.

I've seen 4 of the films nominated for best picture this year. All streaming online, you can get just about anything these days if you look around. I wouldn't waste my money on half the crap made these days.

I have not actually watched an Academy Awards program since about 1990.
I have to agree with this since, I have not watched any of the

I have no interest in The Oscars anymore, all to political and just plain stupid. I like the Razzies, Trump is up for 2 awards and his lovely wife (or is she a possession?) is also nominated for worst supporting actress.

They have become like the other Award shows and it will be whoever gives the most money rather than who actually deserves it. The fact that Lady GaGa got nominated for best actress proves that. It's not exactly a stretch for her to play a struggling singer yet if you were to listen to the 'critics' and fans, you'd think she was not only the best actress of the year but of her generation.

I have to agree with you on Lady Gaga, I don't get it. When she did AHS Hotel her acting was pretty bad. I put her in the company of those other "greats" Madonna and Pia Zadora. Bradley Cooper is another one, they way they fawn over that he starred , co-wrote and directed this epic that he is Laurence Olivier, Martin Scorsese and Tennessee Williams rolled into one. One critic compared him to Orson Welles ! Which leads me to believe drug use in Hollywood is still rampant.

Watched Joaquin Phoenix's speech on the Oscars. Where I live the calves are not deprived of their Mother's milk. The calves are fed. They do not cry for their Mother's milk and if they do they are fed. The extra milk they produce we do use. Umm maybe he could have voiced his opinion on the drug abuse in this country. JMO.

Maybe not right now where you live.
If we wait until it's really widespread, we will have missed an opportunity to prevent a lot of calf angst.
And I believe that a contented calf makes for a tender cow, just like I believe that Christian missionaries taste better than atheists to cannibals.
