Man eaten by bear after meth overdose

The good news is he was dead from the overdose before being eaten by the bear. This happened in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. They euthanized the bear for no good reason.

I'd say it was more for insufficient reasons.
We damned sure don't need a bunch of meth-head grizzlies running around out there.

They can get pretty aggressive being attracted to your food - they might just become unreasonable if they're needing a fix.
Maybe they should be eating people who die from overdoses of sedatives instead.

Pisser about the Bear. He was just eating carrion.

Whoever posted that photo of the bear needs to do some wildlife research. Grizzlies live in the northwest, not in the Smokies. Duh. It was a black bear that snacked on that dead meat.

Normally bears don't think of humans as food, but if the poor animal did that much meth he probably wasn't thinking clearly.

Snort. I wondered how the Bear scored the meth?

And Cindy is correct that it would have been a black bear in the Smokies. Most grizzlies are in Alaska; in the lower 48, you almost only find them in and around Yellowstone.

Also, grizzlies are not scavengers, which is why (so I've heard, never tested it) playing dead will actually work with a grizzly. Not so much with a black bear.

You can also escape a grizzly by climbing a tree. Black bears are GREAT at climbing trees.

That's probably enough random bear trivia for one post. Hopefully these notes will eventually save a life.

I've heard the same. I live two and a half hours from the Smokies, and we have black bears in the woods all over the foothills. Probably, because we are overrun with deer.

You might want to avoid sitting around in the foothills while doing meth.
Evidence suggests that bears love that stuff - they may just try to eat you.

Another great strategy that use is to always hike or go outdoors with a couple of friends.
A couple of friends who run slower than I do.

I've read that attacks by black bears are very rare, so yeah; it was just cleaning up the carrion.
I don't know why they decided they had to kill it unless they thought it might start associating humans with food or quality drugs.

I've heard that once a bear tastes human flesh it will hunt humans for food. We're just like Lays potato chips. Can't eat just one.

That's a danged big black bear.
I wonder if that guy was hunting for sport or if it was a meth deal gone bad?

He doesn't really look like a tweaker, not so sure about the bear.
