SoCal News Anchor Dead At 43; Overdose Suspected

Chris Burrous, popular Southern California news anchor, married with children, dies in motel room of suspected drug overdose in company of a male "companion". It certainly must be awkward for his station KTLA & colleagues to report this as "news" and still try to avoid drawing likely conclusions: family man and pillar of the community who led a double life meeting other men for anonymous sex in motel rooms, fueled by poppers and other paraphernalia that probably contributed to his early death. The station reveals more by what it doesn't report than what it does.

    Sad, especially for the family.
I guess people think it can't happen to them when they take the kinds of stuff that can kill you.

Poor wife and kids, If I were her I would be getting tested lets hope he was smart enough to use condoms as he sure in the hell wasnt smart enough to not do drugs and cheat on his wife.
GLENDALE (CBSLA) – An autopsy has been completed on KTLA5 weekend anchor Chris Burrous, who was found unconscious in a Glendale motel room and later pronounced dead at a hospital, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.
“A cause of death was deferred pending further investigation,” Sarah Ardalani of the coroner’s office said Friday. It often takes several weeks to get the results of toxicology tests. https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018...rrous-autopsy/

The detective at the press conference spoke volumes when he said "everybody knew Chris and we knew this was going to be...a very sensitive matter" (translation: embarrassing). I'm sure the police report of the scene at the Days Inn will make interesting reading if it's ever released.

I've known a couple of guys who lived that kind of double life. Staid and upright in one, and pushing the limits in the other. They both wanted people to know and to find out to some degree. Why play that kind of game, just come out and say this is the deal.

I have a friend who is a Satellite Truck technician. While he doesn't work for KTLA, he met Chris several times and said he was a nice, friendly guy. The word on the street right now is that Chris apparently drove a van and that the van had obviously been cleaned out before the police got there after his "companion" called 911. In all likelihood, once it was obvious that Chris was in trouble, his companion took the time to clean out the van of any evidence before calling 911, which probably cost Chris his life. So weird, if it had been any other celebrity in Los Angeles who had died under similar circumstances, TMZ and all the other news agencies would be publishing shoe sizes and fetish favorites by now. But because it's one of them, it's radio silence. It's what they're not saying that is big news. Ultimately it will all come out because they can't help themselves selling dirt to make big bucks, even if it's about their best friend.

Well, because it was a suspicious death, the Los Angeles County Coroner is now handling it and is by law considered Public Information. They have already created a public record for it in their searchable database. It may take weeks or months for the cause of death to be posted, but it will be. You can check out the record for Chris Burrous as it stands now at this link: http://mec.lacounty.gov/case-detail/...ber=2018-09806.

The Cause of Death is Deferred because they are waiting for either toxicology, tissue testing and or other tests to come back, but as the news has reported, the autopsy has been done. The Manner of Death will be listed as Natural, say, if he died of a heart attack or aneurysm or some other type of natural death. What's interesting though is that most drug overdoses are listed as accidental for Manner of Death rather than suicidal. Homicide could be a Manner of Death if there is clearly evidence showing that he was killed at the hands of another. As of today, December 31, 2018, his Body Status says "Ready." This is a little unusual in that this means that his body is ready to be picked up from the Coroner's Office but hasn't been picked up yet. It might be because of the holidays, or it might be because of funding, but normally families want the bodies to be picked up by mortuaries handling the services as quickly as possible. This is so that embalming can be done as quickly as possible and so the body can be preserved if the services won't be happening immediately. When the body has left the Coroner's Office, the Body Status will change to "Released."

You can keep checking back to the link above to check on status. His case number will never change -- and if you are interested in looking up other famous people, they may or may not be in the Coroner's database. Some are not there because they were under doctor's care at the time of death. Others had/have a security hold place on them and don't show up. Also, the database only goes back about ten years. But it's very interesting though, but also very tragic. And... why do I know all of this? My sister died very suddenly in March 2018 and the circumstances of her death landed her at the Coroner's Office. I had to check the Coroner's Database for months to discover her cause of death. The Coroner is severely underfunded and the Database is one way they can help their customers get updates on their family members.

Thanks for the insights and sorry for your loss. I would've thought immediate family could get information without going the normal hoops and hurdles. In my home state you can get a death certificate within the first 25 years only if you're related by blood or marriage to the deceased; after 25 years anyone can get a death certificate on anyone else just by paying the required fee.

Thanks geekygirl for the info and the link. As you said in a previous post all the dirt will come out when there is money to be made.

Hi all, I just noticed the link is no longer available in the Coroner's Database. The local law enforcement may have put a security hold on it. Or it may be put back up once they know the Cause of Death. I do know that his Body Status was "Ready" for several days before they took down the link. That's the weird part. But then who knows, if I was the wife and my husband had been found with a guy at a motel doing drugs and a secret life was suspected, I might not be too eager to pick his body up either.

Wow ! That last article in The Blast left nothing to the imagination... talk about going overboard ! Poppers are pretty much banned here in Canada, but like anything I'm sure you can get them in the underground market.
