David Bowie died that day.
It was the shock of the event that got everybody buzzing. He did a good job of keeping a lid on his diagnosis. His latest, and sadly, his last album had just came out on the 8th.
Some days, you get the Bear, other days the Bear gets you.

Shocking as that news was to me, I admired that he kept his illness a private matter. The gentleman had class.
To really know people is to be able to read between the lines on their faces.
IIRC, it went from his fans not knowing anything was wrong to his death at a youngish age. That's a long step down and I'll bet that shock triggered the flow to our favorite site.
